Loved this! I remember that the mistletoe had to be shot out of the trees to get it. It was important and made For fun back in the day when kisses weren’t passed out Willy-nilly. Young people today would think mistletoe was lame. 🤦🏼♀️ We called biting into a pie without cutting it, eating it “Yogi Bear style”. 😃🥧 My Grams told me that the animals knelt at midnight on Christmas Eve in honor of Baby Jesus. ❤️🌟Thanks for this list.
So beautiful, these stories are like huggs from Jesus, I'm 53 and my grandparents have passed, and are parents never shared much with us.at all about there childhoods, and me I tell my grand children everything about the days we lived on farms and milked cows and the ducks and chicken mishaps and the donkey we loved and the horses we raised, hanging out the clothes cause we had no dryer, planting pumpkins and picking fresh food out of the garden, there's beauty in everything we touch if we take time to see it, there little smiles, the cloth diapers, I don't miss, seven children, now adults, I saved so much money, there's precious gifts in everything we do and say in a life time, if we just take the time to do and say them, during this new year hearts be glad and see the prizes in life that are freely given, Godspeed, until next time, keep those tasty stories coming young man, SINCERLY Tammiejo
I was born in Oak Ridge Tennessee but was pretty much raised in a little East Tennessee town called Kingston. Now my mom and her parents came to East Tennessee from West Virginia and they brought a lot of the mountain ways with them. When you start talking about superstition, wife's tales, folk lore and such I actually get tears in my eyes from the memories they bring. I was born in April 1950 so I feel that I was lucky to grow up when I did and where I did. THANKS DONNIE
That’s cool! Me and a lot of my family live in Oregon but we hate it here. My house hold has been looking into to moving to West Virginia. We’ve heard that it’s a poor life (money wise) but a simple life, with good friends and neighbors. It’s gonna be hard but my family has had enough of Oregon and we’re ready to leave. We might leave to West Virginia next spring once the weather warms up a bit.
I’m loving ALL of these stories SO much! It will be a year ago October 5 that I lost my last living grandparent…my grandma who lived to be 88. I am 43 and have grown up hearing a lot of the things you talk about and my husband of almost 24 years and I have raised our kids telling them all of these things. Our kids are more “old souls” than most kids today. Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is practically in our back yard…it’s been home away from home our whole lives! One superstition I remember from being a kid and hearing a lot is that you didn’t want to get an open wound or anything like that during the dog days in August or it would take twice as long to heal. I actually witnessed that when my little brother got bit by our blind dog during a dog scuffle. I sure would love to hear the stories you talk of that your mamaw told…thanks…sure have enjoyed hearing all of this
Marry Christmas Donnie to you and family 🎄🎄May God bless you and keep safe in these trying times my friend. I just love these kinds of stories, thank you for sharing those old traditions of the mountains.
I also beg to differ . The very same people who think that you can’t be a Christian and believe a certain way don’t want people to think for themselves, because most superstitions come from otherworldly and very spiritual place . Thanks Donnie love these videos 💕🤗
Thanks Donnie for sharing these Christmas Superstitions, most of them are new to me,except the one about black eyed peas and hog jowls. The true meaning is what really makes Christmas for me, the birth of our Saviour.🙂
Really enjoyed this video Donnie! Some I had heard and some I had never heard 😀I agree with what you said about folks believing in folklore but also believing in their Lord and Savior-I've found that to be very true.
I love your narrations! ♥️ I too grew up with witch craft and superstition,is was not shocking that once I was born again and started reading the Bible that I read how God hates this stuff. All these things never sat right with me not even as a child. I am so glad that Jesus made me free!
Thank you Don for helping us remember Him who Atoned for our sins and made it possible for us to return to our Heavenly Father by obeying His word. Merry Christmas to you and your family my friend. The Lord's blessings be with you. By the way. I love these superstitions.
Thank you for preserving our heritage. Although I now live in TX, I was born and raised in Upper East Tennessee, as were my grandparents, my great grandparents, my great great grandparents, great, great, great grandparents, and so on. These mountains are our home and no matter where we may be, or where we may roam, we remember home and home is Appalachia. God’s eternal blessings on you and yours as we enter a new year.
This channel brings so many memories back to me of my grandma and grandpa. Every show brings so many things back that I’ve forgot over time. Thank you for that. Thank you for this gift. It always makes me smile 😊 and makes me feel so warm and at peace❤️
Our country household was pretty large. As things worked out, there was usually 4 at home just as the oldest graduated high school; that child, in their Senior year, always was tasked with cutting the Christmas tree and getting all the decorations on. Young adults usually went out on their own at that age, and my parents wanted them to 'feel' their last Christmas at home, and the responsibility of expectations from others .
Thank you for a wonderful Christmas video. I love hearing about different superstitions and almost all of these were new to me. I knew about taking your decorations down by Epiphany on the sixth and sweeping trouble away from your door and bringing holly in to the house. My husband was very happy to hear about eating mince pie-or in our case mince tarts! They’re one of his favourites. Merry Christmas to you and yours, love andChristmas blessings too!

We would like to wish you a Merry Christmas from down here in South Carolina! GOD BLESS YOU!!!! 😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻🎄🎁🎄🎁😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻
Just found this jewel and it brought back wonderful memories. We always the mistletoe. And I have caroled all over the place for old people and the hospital. with my family since early childhood. I remember Mama crying as we sang for the little children with bald heads in a children cancer ward. As for #17, I am a big singer, and don't know whether it is bad luck, but I have always refused to sing carols before Thanksgiving or after January 6. Thanks for posting, and God bless you!
Donnie thank you so much for all your videos I love them all, the superstitions of the mountains and in the South is very important it tells the story that someone has gone through. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family Donnie God bless and be safe.❤️🎄🎁🙏
Thank you, Donnie for your Appalachian Christmas Superstition list. There's some fascination history there, and I just love it. Merry Christmas my friend, to you and all your family, friends and loved ones.

Thank you Brother Donnie for an interesting and educational video. Your storytelling is deeply moving and I love to hear you speaking about the mountain folk and their traditions. May the Lord Jesus bless you real good this coming year.
Thank you for another cozy and informative video. When I was a kid in the early 1960's, adults in my family told me that barn animals can talk on Christmas Eve. About black eyed peas, I love to fix "hoppin' John" for New Year's Day. It is so delicious, plus I guess eating it would give me good luck 😁 Hope you and your family have a blessed and cozy Christmas!
I've found your channel not too long ago and I absolutely enjoy your content. I was born and raised in the mountains of WNC, and your videos make me feel just a little bit closer to home. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Donnie, one day last week I misplaced my favorite bracelet. I looked ALL day for it. I watched a few of your videos and shared them with my husband; . After dinner I was alone and thought I am going to find that bracelet. I went into my bedroom and looked on my dresser. I was SO mad at myself. I then turned around to turn off the light and just happen to look at the floor. THERE WAS MY BRACELET! It was sitting in front of my husband's dresser. I was so happy. "I don't know" if it was any of your videos. But, I found my bracelet. I had to share this story with you
MERRY CHRISTMAS Donnie, I want to thank you so much for all the beautiful, interesting and thoughtful vedios you have done and shared with us. You have given me a beautiful added thoughts of my family over the generations of my family in the mountains. I just wanted to make sure you knew how much I appreciate you, honor you for sharing great memories and vedios. Donnie may you and your family have wonderful blessings and the very beautiful Christmas possible. 🎄
Thank you Donnie. Enjoyed the list. I know a few of those. I know all about those "superstitious " I grew up hearing most of those. Thank you again for your story. I do so look forward to each and every one. Merry Christmas! Stay safe and warm.
Thank you for these videos I love them. Now the one about not seeing Spirits if born on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day truly depends on the person. My other half sees them easily and he's a Christmas Eve baby. From my family to yours we wish you a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with prosperity, good health and lots of laughter. ❤️🍀
Thank you for the video, greatly appreciated. My mother always tried to get me to eat blackeyed peas on New Year's Eve... I can't stand blackeyed peas. The other superstitions I'd never heard of. My father told me one, after he did it... Never let anyone vacuum, or sweep, under your feet or you'll never have children. I never did have children. But that's an everyday Appalachian superstition. Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy, New Year to you, and yours. Take care, stay safe, have a nice day. 👵🙂✌️☮️🖖 😷 🙉🙈🙊 ♥️⛰️🏔️ 🌟🎄🎅🤶🦌☃️❄️⛄ ☮️🌎 🎄🌟
Merry Christmas, and thank you for sharing your knowledge. I can hear my grandparents, long since passed, in your stories. The blessing of memories, both happy and bittersweet, is always welcome.
Thank you my friend really appreciate it. I grew up on a small farm in north Alabama my grandmother would tell us these stories. A lot of them I’ve never heard. God bless you and keep you.
I loved hearing these superstitions. The only one I knew of was eating black eyed peas. I can only imagine how beautiful the mountains are with snow and all the animals. Thanks for sharing. 😊❤️🙏🏼🍂🌻🍁
I was born on Christmas night 1955 and I have never thought of myself as being lucky. I guess there is different kinds of luck. I have never won things or made much money but, there is more than once I could have been killed in different kinds of accidents and even shot at. I guess I am “lucky” in that respect. THANK YOU DONNIE, MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄
Howdy Donnie - the only one of these I ever heard of was eating black eye peas and hog jowl on New Years Day. Hope y’all have a blessed Christmas. God bless
Merry Christmas to you and family. You are one of the good sites where I can go to escape the crazy politics that have made life so stressful for so many people.
Just found this one as well. It's like getting a Christmas present in May! How neat is that? These family traditions do bring back some sweet memories for sure. Thanks Donnie for your feverance for family keepsakes. your friend, Louise
Thank you sir for this video. Yes..hard working charitable folks. Good cooking and cel3brating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Thats what the eve and day are all about...Amen!! Also, the superstions make sense to me.
Thank you for sharing this. Merry Christmas to you an your family. I live in the Appalachian mountains also in Virginia all my life. I also am Christian from a good family. My oldest daughter was born Christmas Eve but never heard of that superstition
I was unable to comment on another of your recent presentations but can relate to Alor of the things you spoke of especially of the Christmas tree when I was a boy my dad and I would walk the country side to find and bring back a nice red cedar which always made a beautiful Christmas tree so thank you for bringing back those fond old memories and Happy Holidays to y'all!
Lived at the base of these mountains going on 30 years and only heard a handful. Thanks a ton for filling us in, my wife will be doing several of these tomorrow. lol
I love this chanel. I have only been to Appalachia through reading and the internet. Someday I would love to visit. I wonder if some of the superstitions were brought from countries from which people came from years ago. Some of the superstitions I have heard here in New England. I enjoyed this very much. I wish everyone joy this Christmas and our coming New year. We must never lose the true meaning of our Savior's Birth, in spite of the commercialization of Christmas.
Thank u so much 4 sharing our mountain family stories...I am from Kentucky and I've heard a fee from my grandparents...I'll be 44 soon and I can set around and listen to these stories like a lil kid.. so I hope yall have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year's...12 25 2021
Hey Donnie, Merry Christmas!!! I hope that your day is doing good for you and your family. I’m in your neck of the woods right now. I’m heading on I 75 on my way to Florida for my Christmas/ New Year vacation. I’m currently passing by the Norris Lake exit.

WOW thank you so much.
Thank you friend. Most of these superstitions came from the old country. Thanks for sharing my friend. Merry Christmas.

It’s dark so I can’t see the mountains, but I can’t wait to see them when I come back!!!I hope that you have a good evening, and may God bless you and your family on this wonderful day!!!
Stay safe my friend. Thanks for sharing my friend. Merry Christmas.
