Whelp you really only have 1 problem left to fix which is rod bearings, the trans are pretty bullet proof on them, just make sure when you are doing bearings and have the engine out, that you do all the "while your in there" replacements of seals and what not, should have a pretty darn reliable M6 for the next 100k miles.
Good cars are suppose to sound good and run good. This just does one of those. high upkeep should be for exotics not something anyone couldve just bought back in th day
Just found this channel, it feels so authentic how expressive you are. Reminds me of bs with the homies while working on our whips 😂 . You’re real asf I respect that
It's a cool and underrated car. If I were you I would definitely give it a manual swap, because rowing through the gears in a V10 powered cruiser is pure magic! Thank you for sharing, and cheers!
It is really encouraging to watch videos like this, for someone like me with a 20 Y.O. x5 v6 which I really want to make the best out of it, you are giving the right push to keep doing at it Thnx Ayman from Kuwait
Who the hell quoted you $25,000 - $60,000?! A used SMG trans is $2,500, even a 6 speed manual swap wouldn't cost that much. If the whole transmission was destroyed, it wouldn't be more than a $10,000 job at a shop with a REALLY high labor rate. A used engine + building it + installing it would BARELY creep up to $25,000 unless you really balled out on aftermarket components. The repair prices people come up with I swear 😂
So mate in my person experience, I’ve had the regulator on the back of the alternater go and that throughs up a transmission code as well, so it might also be worth changing as some preventative maintenance, the main tell for it is if the voltage spikes when driving you can tell this with a standard code reader but I figure your in need of some helpful advice good luck on the build can’t wait to see the next episode 👍🏻❤️
A youtube mechanic that actually has grease on his hands! way to go bro! I always laugh at some other, we wont mention names, youtube "mechanics" who do repair vids while having immaculately clean hands and no a spec of grease on them to be seen..yeah right!
That whining sound you said "sounds like something does not wanna move is moving" is a very strong indicator your gear is on it's last leg and it's just a matter of time when it is gonna give up.
A couple things for anyone else wanting to tackle a similar project. Always replace your clutch pivot pin with a stainless pivot pin, it'll last way longer than the plastic one. Additionally, the exhaust clamp is free floating on one header from the manufacturer, it's the same way on my e46 and e90 m3's. The exhaust is sealed with the conical exhaust gasket
Do not forget do change the gearbox oil and the smg hydraulic fluic as well and then you should be good. Some persons had some syncro issues because of the lack of oil change on the gearbox...
Nice content superb, If I was upgrading I will update the car like the lights fenders bumpers front and rear body to the latest possible M6 configuration. And yeah will tune it 😊 Keep going 🎉❤
All well and good looking at one of these cars as a project car.. You might make a killing on buying it cheap.. but you will make up for it in the amount needed to put the car right.. which could run into thousands..
Good luck with the rod bearing job, I’m impressed you guys got the car moving again nice job, I see it also uses a similar adaptation system like I use for my e46 m3 smg
You might wanna keep tabs on the fuel pump. I’ve heard they are notorious to die if the fuel level is below 25%. Apparently the fuel cools and/or lubricates the pump.
I don’t think that exhaust bracket is a factory defect. I also own a M6 and mine is Japanese (well I am Japanese and I live in Japan), it also has the exact same design. One flange is not welded and comes right off. I was also surprised and I still don’t know why. But it can’t happen randomly to both your car and my car, in two different markets
He f*cked up welding that flange 🤦♂ , it's a factory feature on most BMW M cars and it's sealed with a gasket. It's to prevent issues with expanding and flexing from heat.
Bro dead just motivated me lol, I’ve been on the fence for a few months on if I should sell or fix my 04 e60 530i with 176000 miles I only paid 1800 for it. E60 M5 is my dream but for now I’ll just settle for the 530…ima start fixing it look out for my RUclips coming soon

VANOS enters the chat
@@deqexsub7009 Generally, they last quite awhile. Even on my older brothers M5 it was all original passing 160k miles when he sold it.
That smg is not reliable at all unfortunately lol
@@averyc7492you’re a liar. I have e60 m5 with 180,000
@@The_North0 that’s awesome! Still doesn’t negate the fact that it is known as one of bmw’s least reliable transmissions
Ty for leaving the curse words in
I agree. Makes the video funnier
Fr I hate the PG13 aspect of RUclips like honestly this is what most of us would say 😂 , but i understand it’s for revenue purposes
Feels relatable and honest

My dream is to own both generation M6s because man they are just amazing
M6 GC is just 🤌
they are bot. They are POS that sound good
Nightmare maintenance
@@user-pl7lr5dn8q not POS. high upkeep sure but not POS. just need to know what your doing. its not a toyota.

Nah better in Cobra Kai as a car salesman

the idle going up and down is the vanos soleinoids
but if they actually fixed the car they couldnt milk it for content.
It's a cool and underrated car. If I were you I would definitely give it a manual swap, because rowing through the gears in a V10 powered cruiser is pure magic! Thank you for sharing, and cheers!
its not even a real swap, rather a conversion
I would see if there’s another transmission that can mate. The manual isn’t ideal and the smg isn’t fast enough
@@JStryker7 well you can adapt anything also newer bmw dcts but you need a free programmable tcu
@@JStryker7dct would be perfect

There's just something so funny about you guys dropping F bombs in your videos; maybe it makes things more authentic, idk but i love it.

Let’s go boys!!! You guys can do anything! I am working on a e46 now and needed this!
M539 Restauration has a full series on rebuilding a S85 so you could have a look over it in case you need a heads up👌🤙
Glad to see another BMW brought back to life! I have a 66' 2000ti that I'm working on and that's been taking years but in the end it will be worth it.
Been looking forward for this for a minute!
Love seeing a machine like this come back to life!
That whining sound you said "sounds like something does not wanna move is moving" is a very strong indicator your gear is on it's last leg and it's just a matter of time when it is gonna give up.
You guys are amazing. Keep us updated on the m6. Make videos on the m6 often!

No! Stainless pivot pin doesn’t last longer. Plastic works way better. Stainless will be smashed by the strong force of smg
@ I doubt that, haven’t ever seen that. I’ve seen that happen with brass pivot pins though
Congrats on fixing it!!

Nice job on the transmission! As for the last question, how does it sound... yeah, about that....
I remember going to a NOPI show back in 2007 and some guy brought one of those to the car show bone stock and it sounded insane from the factory.
12:41 hell yeah, we all been there with projects lol
Thank GOD for Sam not letting you give up
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!!! 😫

Damn bro you really know your stuff. Cool build love beamers
Leave the SMG pump off, convert it to 6speed from there using the same bell housing and have fun.
man these 2000's Bmw's are very very very beautiful, amazed by them
I'll watch every step of the way this is literally the project car I want
The exhaust clamp is how it comes from the factory. No point in welding it. I have e60 m5 with 180,000 miles
You might wanna keep tabs on the fuel pump. I’ve heard they are notorious to die if the fuel level is below 25%. Apparently the fuel cools and/or lubricates the pump.
Love your honesty and truth 😅
I think better put zf-8hp-76 and forgot about smg headache)
Saving for the manual version !
Get the id4motion had unit and digital dash!
6 speed manual conversion sounds appropriate!!!

bro swap that gearbox for a ZF asap
Remember that these cars only take premium fuel 91 octane or higher be sure to put some fuel cleaner to take all the gunk off the injectors

The exhaust sounds a lot better when you are in the passenger seat.
why no seatbelts? you like the bonging noise?
what fluid did you use for the smg ( gear fluid )

Wouldn't it be good to replace the rear main seal before installing a new clutch and putting transmission back in it? Don't know, just asking?...
Are you guys going to finish the Canada trip with the 550
what's the total cost after that $5900 + clutch kit + rod bearings ? I'll worry about tyres later as those need to change all the time anyways.

MLR sells the slave cylinders for a lot less than $600. I think around $200.
maybe you could have replaced the rear main seal while you had everything out
Absolutely HATE the rear of that car newer ones not bad but those nooo
ive got an m6 i have the opportunity to buy, 85k miles new clutch new control arms and rod bearings, they want 20k. is that overkill?
