The trailer alone looks way better than the Skull Island Cartoon on Netflix
I've always had a soft spot for Viras, so I'm glad he's back! His design update is awesome, I especially like it because it seems to have some Legion inspirations. However, Guiron is without a doubt the kaiju I am most excited for.
Also quick side note, I wonder if the shot from the moon has something to do with Zigra, cause if I remember correctly his movie opens on the moon.
The last shot could have something to do with Zigra. Guess we'll have to wait and see! I share in your excitement about Guiron. He looks like a scene-stealer!
The trailer made it look fun but I’m keeping my expectations low after the Godzilla Netflix stuff.
The director of the gamera anime already confirmed he was given more freedom for this anime as opposed to his work on the trilogy
Yeah also the problem with the previous Godzilla animes has been unnecessarily complicating things. A simple story where monsters fight under the advantages and new techniques you can implement in animation would have landed perfectly fine, but the trilogy wanted to be discount AoT (without understanding what makes AoT great) and SP wanted to spend all of its time on theoretical physics to where their characterization creativity really ran out after Anguirus and Salunga were introduced.
Gamera Rebirth seems to be everything it says on the tin. You've got Gamera, the kids he protects, some probably mostly useless adults, the monsters to fight, and clips of how they're utilizing animation to make these fights different than what has come before. It doesn't really need more than that, and Seshita's interview makes me think he understands that
The shot of the moon could mean one of a few things. It could be sequel bait teasing Legion sure (or last episode final fight with new monster) or it coild be revealing that all the monsters come from space (yheres a heavy presence of a science lab in the forst trailer, which could mean they're creating or studying them there)
I'm definitely excited and looking forward to it. Love that many of the showa kaiju are getting love and a secret enemy could very well be possible. I agree the ending in the Kong cartoon should have definitely warped up

Gamera Vs Viras has some of the best setup of any of the Showa Gamera movies (mischievous Kennys whose special strengths are plot justified, intriguing spaceship design, and that chilling cold open where Gamera destroys the spaceship), but it fumbled the execution for me. The UN would never surrender just to keep two kids alive. The stock footage usage was annoying and far worse implemented than in Vs Guiron or Vs Jiger. My biggest issue with the film is just how Viras fully impales Gamera's chest, and the film doesn't treat it dramatically enough. Now I know popular opinion post MST3K is that these movies are cheesy trash, but Vs Jiger had a very great scene of Gamera struggling after his arms and legs were impaled because he can't tuck them in to fly away. It makes us empathize with Gamera so much, and it's the kind of scene that only works because he's a turtle. Barring the original film and Super Monster, the Showa series is honestly full of that creativity, and it's disappointing to not see Viras, possibly the coolest suit and idea for an opponent, treated with that level of creativity. Luckily this trailer shows us that Viras is going to hurt Gamera possibly the most out of these guys. Happy to see it honestly.
Also if you pay close attention and or slow the trailer down, Guiron's forehead throwing stars hit Gamera towards the end. So he still has though. Guiron's my favorite and they're doing him respect too

If there is a sixth Kaiju I would my guess is it will be Legion.
I'm hoping Either barugon or Zanon, having it be a heisei monster would be out of place since the others are showa kaiju. Regardless I'm excited for this series, especially cuz it comes out the month before Godzilla minus 1!
I agree, this looks much better then Godzilla earth and Godzilla signature point both were awful.

That's what I was wanting to see
