Best set of the tournament. Love seeing these two show off why they are the pinnacle of the game's skill ceiling with the most high level play in the scene.
Seeing these two duke it out for 4th place just goes to show how frickin' stacked this bracket is. Either of these two could've easily won the whole thing.
These guys are emblematic of melee’s competitive spirit. I mean look at their rivalry. Training partners, neck and neck, 11-11, every set seems to be game 5 last stock filled with respect and love for the game. Melee will never die because as Mango said it, all you need is two guys sweating it off in a garage or the back of a 7 11 for 25 bucks. Cody and Zain are that two. They carry that spirit. There’s no other way to put it. And as long as these two live Melee will always live through them
15:55 Zain down tilted 2 frames too late, cody double jumped way above the ledge here but grabbed ledge 2 frames before the hitbox for downtilt came out. thats how close this was, Zain only lost this set by 2 frames
In last stock game 5, I seriously thought to myself Zain would be the one to clutch it out. But Cody didn’t care about what I thought, and that’s why he’s the one up there and not us, lmao. These guys are a new modern classic rivalry
He actually held onto the idea that fox could beat Marth for a while and only changed his mind/went Shiek for a short time in 2020. Definitely never had as bad a mindset about it as Leffen lol
@@dh3913 Having as bad a mindset about it as Leffen is impossible, but his mindset regarding the Marth MU was quite terrible. There were clips of him quitting out in frustration against Zain blaming the MU as being terribly one-sided, Fox having to try so hard and Marth getting all the easy kills. It was really bad.
@@MorphBall1 I just remember seeing a clip where he said he only momentarily thought the matchup was actually losing for fox, and that he almost always believed fox could do it. He could be lying ofc, or he’s telling the truth but also raged a lot when he lost. Honestly whether he changed his mind about the mu or not, all that really matters is that he has definitely improved his mentality an incredible amount.
@@dh3913 Yeah, I believe it happened after Mang0 won Summit and beat Zain on FD twice. In their next set Cody counterpicked Zain to FD himself and it worked out for him. It's extremely rare to see a top player overcome a MU mental barrier like that.
This was one of the best sets ive ever seen. Not gonna lie i didnt think cody had it in him after that first match but he brought it back in an outstanding way!
We didnt know it but they were playing for the year here. If zain hits that gimp at 15:52, cody has no big house win and Zain is by default #1 If zain chose to techchase with f smash instead of d tilt at 16:40, codys not the best player for the year.

best character in the game doesn't equal broken. Idk why you'd wanna nerf the character that is the reason the game is fun. Buff worse characters instead

Huge respect for Cody not abandoning Fox, hard work pays off, also want to say L3ffen is a giant puss, abandoned his favorite character for something easier, more favorable, instead of putting the work in. Last thing not sure why Zain opts to up throw when he could down throw off stage, that'll never make sense to me
Down throw is a good option if you want to get them off stage but if you time the down tilt too late like he did when he had only two stocks remaining it can be rather costly so it's a good option to up throw for more damage and a less risky play that isn't as precise
It’s probably fox’s only losing matchup, but only by a little bit. I would argue marth is pretty much tied with fox as best in the game because marth slightly beats fox but also slightly loses to sheik
@@rhysjones1108 Cody held onto the belief that fox beat Marth for a while and only briefly changed his mind before coming back to fox. He definitely didn’t consider the matchup as impossible as Leffen did.
Even if Fox loses Marth MU which I think is even hes still clearly the best character in the game lol, crouch cancel shine confirms to an easy kill move, that's how Cody won this set and how I always lose to Fox's lol. Its so nice to have such a straightforward kill confirm off your CC, what other character has that?

Zain v Cody was also the loser semis of The Big House 10 you know
This set felt more tense than the grand finals itself i'll say it. Especially knowing their set count was 11 - 11 before this
It feels that way every time they play before grands. They consistently have the best sets in modern melee

Everyone always talks about the GOAT but I think here we have the GOAT rivalry. Many instant classic sets between these two.
So many good players capable of taking each other out. Top 8 is like rocket tag. This is lowkey one of the most interesting eras of melee
Until the last second nobody had any clue about who is going to win
Love it when sets are like that. Not good for our hearts though 😅
Game is so cutthroat right now
Futuristic gameplay bruh. This is the best player rivalry in Melee hands-down and has been for a long time
Zain washed / not the goat? He lost a set so this means he’s washed and not the goat

M2k hits that
These 2 have the best rivalry in melee right now, I get the appeal the old heads talked about with seeing players come up and ascend into godhood
zain vs cody is ALWAYS a banger... regardless of who comes out on top
watch zain get hit w/ the up smash at the end, and zero reaction. dude has nerves of steel these days
I could watch these dudes play a million sets
Zain and cody always have the best matches in a tournament

when was the last time that they didn't go to Game 5? or even game 4. like i don't even think either has ever gotten a 3-0 on the other one

heartbreaker dude
IBDW makes me realize how broken Fox is, hopefully we will get Melee 2 where Fox gets balanced.

Up Throw is more guaranteed for damage, D Throw is more risky for edgeguards he wanted to play it safe I guess.
