In this climbing vlog, we head to Germany to climb a boulder crag called Avalonia. The boulder problems sit in the forest on the southern rim of the Ruhrtal and are largely developed by Daniel Pohl. It's a very accessible area, with parking nearby and trails leading up and past multiple sections, such as Avalonia Cave, Galerie and Kirschblütental.
The squad climbed Britonisches Wintermärchen and Cross Art, both graded 6c and Steppenwolf, graded 7a. They also tried their luck on Pueblo, graded 7a.

Have you been to Avalonia before? 😎
Beautiful crag to spend the weekend at in my opinion, the only downside for me is that you can’t top out/ mantle the most of the boulders.

Oh dude, it's definitely worth the trip! ✨
Cool video guys! Avalonia is wonderful :)
Thank you! 😊
It's on the list 😁 (looks a lot like the Halleluja Steinbruch in Bielefeld it's a little further north and worth the visit)
Interesting clip! Again 👍

Good english! Nice story
Amazing vid!
Thanks you! Glad you enjoyed it 🎉😊
Please preserve those beautiful boulders for the others.. I know youre psyched but climbing on it with approach shoes and touching all the holds without chalk ruined so many climbs in my area
You’re definitely right! We’ll make sure to show and promote the right things going forward. Thanks for reaching out! ❤️
How does that ruin the rock?
@@paydenquinn1986 Climbing with street shoes/approach shoes introduces dirt on the rock, even if it's not visible. That paired with either moisture from the air or sweat from your hands (a result of climbing w/out chalk) can create an extremely slippery layer of gunk on the rock that can't be removed. In many trafficked areas it gets so severe it looks like a black lacquer. Climbing with chalk, wiping down climbing shoes before getting on the rock, and brushing the rock once done can help a lot.
@@danandrei9087 oh ok I’ve seen the black funk before on holds
whats the app youre using to see the lines?
It’s called 27 Crags!
Where was Daniel?
Our theory is he had a dentist appointment that weekend! We didn’t see him 😋
Hi, what app do you use at 2:41?
That’d be 27crags!
@@walrusclimbing Thx!
Is the area open for climbing again? Last I heard it was closed due to very dangerous rockfalls caused by heavy floods.
Not sure! We were there in November and one section - Katla Cave- was indeed closed. Avalonia Cave and other sections were accessible then.
All areas besides Katla are officially open. Katla Cave was deemed dangerous by DAV afaik but that wont stop people if they want to climb there anyways of course.
