this is the best I've heard on youtube, in my opinion. Others out there are playing it either way to fast, or are dragging it, and thus loosing the essence of the piece. She reads the ornaments well ^^
I think you played this piece with grace and beauty, and although not everyone will agree to the fact that this is the way it should have been played, we can all agree that it is beautiful playing and you are extremely talented. Continue playing!
Sorry to bring this out the grave, but any musician knows any piece will have different interpretations played by another person. When I was practicing this piece I played it similarly with slight variations from hers. When people play it differently you know they feel something from that piece. So far this is my favorite version on the tube.
I'm learning this and I was like: Before watching: "Hey I guess I sound pretty good!" After: "Wow.... I kinda suck..." Discouraged....... She's so good and looks so effortless! But despite that, she has so much feeling!!!!! GAH IT'S SO GOOD!!!!
She did play that waltz pretty well! Thanks for this vid, cuz this will be my inspiration cause I'm gonna play this piece in my upcoming recital. And my teacher made me memorize two Chopins!!! (the other one is the minute waltz) hah :D
@bestfriendsforeva I agree that she maintained stunning clarity but with rubato I'm not so sure. The piece is meant to be 'Giusto' which means it has to be strict in tempo. It's only a personal opinion but I think it could've been so much better without or with very careful rubato.
@radagastthe3rd : i agree. It should be slower a lil bit more interpreting and emotions.I didn't feel much hearing this playing. I don't think this is the best interpretation of the piece. yet she's still a great pianist, of course.
It's fantastically played and there's no denying that.. But I think certain surprise effects were overused.. Like speeding up the upward run, or that change of rhythm in the recap.. They're amazing when used sparingly, but not so much if overused.. But it's certainly a standard of playing I personally envy..
@audreyhsux5727 What I was talking about, I put it right there. Well, you have to admit, you had the privilege of seeing more interpretations than I have I guessing, since you saw a nine year old etc. But I really did enjpy this, and expressed it as such.
i checked on the scale thing and it said this was a grade 7. but then again grade 7 might just mean u get all the notes right and have no real feeling when playing this.
@JamesinLA1 Then we'll all assume you've met Chopin and understand his music? If we'd all interpret it your way, then we'd no longer have opinions. And because we all interpret Chopin's music differently there's no right and no wrong.
Your taking the song too serious.... music pieces are fun and that's the joy of playing music and she accents more feeling into the songs. You learn to play it the way it tell you too but once your done and master the piece then you should play to the feelings you wish making the song faster and slower. It is true that she is playing in different tempos in certain parts as i have played this piece also, but she is enjoying her playing and sharing it the audience
it's good, but having played this piece it sounds like it's too fast in some places and too slow in others. in the piece, nothing indicates to slow down and speed up so much.
I think that basically she just over-interpreted it. It made it sound too much like a whole new piece and not just the way that it was written. Expression is wonderful but don't change the whole meaning of the peace.
mad skills but I think it was a bit fast and then she changed her tempo a bit too much. It just didn't sound right. It's a matter of interpretation but to my personal ears it just didn't seem like the best way to play the piece. She is still an amazing pianist. That's easy to see.
It's a puzzle, how this slender and delicate looking young lady could be so heavy handed (especially in left hand accompaniment) and large and heavy-set man like Arthur Rubinstein could play with such a delicacy and finesse?..... Stiffness might be the answer.....
she hits the piano keys a bit too hard, needs to ease into the keys more on the sustained notes. Clarity is indeed excellent on the faster parts, but the main melody waltz notes are a bit hard to listen to with the choppiness from hitting the notes.

The best version I can find in RUclips so far
This is my favourite rendition of this piece on RUclips... really beautifully and gracefully played - thank you :)
Excellent rubato and stunning clarity. Good job!
this is the best I've heard on youtube, in my opinion. Others out there are playing it either way to fast, or are dragging it, and thus loosing the essence of the piece. She reads the ornaments well ^^
Came back to listen to this again. Marvelous. You are extremely talented.
Excellent! Superb drive to the tempo and rhythm. Don
I love the varying pedalling styles and the contrast they make! bravo.
One of my favourite pieces of music. Such beauty, and melancholy. It affects me deeply. Wonderful.
wow can appreaciate it now looking at the key signatures and changes from sharps to flats!
Delightful !... Thanks for sharing.
Cyrille.
You play very very good. Much better than others I saw in RUclips.
I think you played this piece with grace and beauty, and although not everyone will agree to the fact that this is the way it should have been played, we can all agree that it is beautiful playing and you are extremely talented. Continue playing!
thank you so much for sharing your talents
I enjoyed your perfomance very much.
Love this version!
Really inspiring, thanks for sharing!
I like this version, too. The second best on the RUclips.
According to Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) this is grade 9. It is a very beautiful song! My favorite Chopin piece...
And according to the ABRSM (associated board of royal school of music) this is grade 6, UK.
wonderful playing. she certainly did not over interpret it, i defiantly liked it alot
excellent performance, very nice!
Thank you! this is truly amazing. I like the tempo much more than the faster versions.

SOMEONE COUGHED! Someone had the nerve to cough during this beautiful performance!
I wish I could play like that :(
best interpretation ever !
I'm learning this and I was like:
Before watching: "Hey I guess I sound pretty good!"
After: "Wow.... I kinda suck..." Discouraged.......
She's so good and looks so effortless! But despite that, she has so much feeling!!!!! GAH IT'S SO GOOD!!!!
Thanks, Angela.
Thanks, arnagun. I haven't marketed this clip for sale, so I don't believe you'll find it on iTunes.
@BattiManZel
What a beautiful compliment. Thank you so much!
-Kyung

Awesome !!!
I like this interpretation :)
I hav to learn this song for the summer in piano. It's like summer reading but better ya know?
Thank you for the lovely compliment!
perfect. Thanks
The best performance I could find on youtube.
Somehow my Yamaha piano's demo just blows everything out of the water.
Yeah! I'm 11and I have to play this!!!
@radagastthe3rd In the actual music, such changes occur, so I see no problem really in the pace.
Love the B section part
She did play that waltz pretty well! Thanks for this vid, cuz this will be my inspiration cause I'm gonna play this piece in my upcoming recital. And my teacher made me memorize two Chopins!!! (the other one is the minute waltz) hah :D
The performance is well emoted, except I felt it became suddenly too fast or slow at places. Amongst the good versions available in RUclips.
Isnt that how it's supposed to be ?
WoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooW
@TheAshKane, you release the pedal after the second chord
@AidaTosca You are welcome :D
@bestfriendsforeva I agree that she maintained stunning clarity but with rubato I'm not so sure. The piece is meant to be 'Giusto' which means it has to be strict in tempo. It's only a personal opinion but I think it could've been so much better without or with very careful rubato.
terrific. played how i would interpret it.
Perfect
WOW, I don't even know what to say.... It is wonderfully played and even made me cry. Thank You so much for this video
im learning this for an audition...and my cousin plays it
belle performence
beautiful.
and she has big hands
this seems okay for my recital... ya. I just have some difficulties on phrasing a bit and some on dynamics but overall a very nice piece
@holybladex10 How did you get on in that contest? Any success?
i'm dazzed....completly dazzed.. by the way she plays this ,so elegantely,gently!!awesome!thump up !
wooow! makes me feel like a bug...:P
Yuja Wang plays it with sharp and clear staccotos but I like this one because it's slow.
@radagastthe3rd : i agree. It should be slower a lil bit more interpreting and emotions.I didn't feel much hearing this playing. I don't think this is the best interpretation of the piece. yet she's still a great pianist, of course.
just wondering, what grade is this song?
It's fantastically played and there's no denying that.. But I think certain surprise effects were overused.. Like speeding up the upward run, or that change of rhythm in the recap.. They're amazing when used sparingly, but not so much if overused.. But it's certainly a standard of playing I personally envy..
did she miss some notes at 1:15?
@audreyhsux5727 What I was talking about, I put it right there. Well, you have to admit, you had the privilege of seeing more interpretations than I have I guessing, since you saw a nine year old etc. But I really did enjpy this, and expressed it as such.
Second time playing at 1:23 could be softer. It says so in the piece. Anyways good job that was great, but always could be better!
I love it, but I think it should have more dynamics too it.
10+++.
@TheSoken123 ] It is grade 9.
@timcsh RCM. (Royal Conservatory Of Music)
@XDSakuraBlossomXD
ABRSM ?
me too. :((
@radagastthe3rd I have to disagree O_O This sounds perfect!
i checked on the scale thing and it said this was a grade 7. but then again grade 7 might just mean u get all the notes right and have no real feeling when playing this.
Surprisingly good... just a bit mechanical in the end part, but good tempo and dynamics.. /me likes.
@XDSakuraBlossomXD yeah, or even more.
i'd tap that note ;]

it should be a little faster
Magnifique .. Mais ça renifle à côté ... Désolant
more dynamics could be used

When you think you are good at something there is alway Asian better than you Damn!!!
Well of course she's Asian ^_^
Asian is like an elite race
+TheNinjabob1 ??? what are you talking about? lol
+Wild4lon Asian is not a nationality. Plenty of people of "Asian" ancestry have been living in the western world for generations. Having Asian eyes does not guarantee any particular skills lol
