Also uses chord voicings that never have less than 5 strings ringing which is cool
A musician is performing magic
It didn't sound like those chords were going to fit together the way they did when you play them individually, but it's a really simple yet very catchy chord progression.
here's something that most people forget, music is all about rhythm. even out of key chord/notes can sound good with a good rhythm to back it up.
@@alexfvcruz Not really the case here, though. These chords work together, it's not just because ichika played them a certain way
@@alexfvcruz Music is about rhythm for sure, but you can't just throw together a bunch of chords and add rhythm. The chords need to have some sort of progression and need to flow together, too
The_Creator main reason they worked together is because of the dominant chords like B7 and G7. those chords are a perfect fifth away from the chord that they resolve to in this video which is why they sound good together. those chords being B7 to Emin7 (perfect fifth from E) and G7 to Amin7 which you could technically call a Cadd6 but just inverted. this being a perfect fifth away from G so it resolves nicely.
The_Creator probably the worst explanation ever but hope it kinda gives you some sort of an understanding lol

That Em9 is such a nice chord to finish with
I love m9s so much in general. The 1b7b35 (intervals in order) minor chord with a 9th on the high e string is so epic
Em9 and Dm9 always sound so good
Every damn m9 actually
Always reminds me of the beginning of "Scars of Time" (aka the best video game theme ever)
@@Devolgalf was gonna say the exact thing
you not have a clue of how much we love that you´re doing this
I think this is a good way to interpret the chords:
C E G B - Cmaj7
B D# A E G - B13
E G B D - Em7
G B F E - G13
A C E G - Am7
B D F# A E - Bm7(add11)
E G B D F# - Em9
Cmaj7 and Em7 are pretty functionally the same chord with different color but the B13 serves as a nice bold dominant chord to go from one to the other ( I -> V/iii -> iii). Continuing the momentum with a classic jazz backdoor progression gets us to the Am7, switching to the relative minor key of Am from C (iv -> bVII -> i). From there its just a classic iv -> v -> i progression in the key of Em. I think Bm7 is a better way to interpret that penultimate chord than D6/9 bc it definitely has a more dominant sound than a 6/9 would , its not as strong as a B13 or B7 is but it has that v -> i sound to it. plus its shaped so much more like a conventional minor 7 chord on guitar, only with that open e thats just been a pedal note the whole time (but thats a good reason for why the v chord can get away with being minor, that pedal is just begging to land on an E chord resolution anyways).
idk why i chose this vid to pop off on music theory its like 5am and this vid is like half a year old, it just popped in my feed and then i started writing down those chords bc i had a feeling there was more going on than what was written, and then i just kept typing and now here we are
yeah, i came down here to see if anyone had already said that the chords written on the video were wronf
Nice

Ik right I was screaming. YOU DONT BELONG IN MOST OF THESE. But I mean
When you arpeggiate it doesnt sound too nice but when played as a chord it really fleshes it out dont ya think?
@@spctcl_ to me its the context that makes it sound good. By themselves most of these chords just sound dissonant, but they work really well with each other.
When picking it, it doenst feel right. But in the chord is feels Nito
B7 and G7 UHHHHHHH
Cmaj7 B7 Em7 G7 Am7 Dadd9/B Em9 since for some reason they didnt put it in the description
Extremely fucking jazz
I-VII-III-V-VI-II-III
@@greyl1 This progression is actually in the key of G. So the correct notation is IV-III-vi-I-ii-V-vi
doesn't g7 have a d note, why is he playing an e note on the 12th fret, or is it just a g6/7 or something like that
@@samueltyree it makes a little more sense in E minor (relative minor of G). VI-V-i-III-iv-VII-i

Chord function resume:
VI V7 i III7 iv bVII i
the III7 probably comes from a modal modulation to E phrygian and preps the iv chord nicely
thanks nitooo
Joao T Or simply a backdoor resolving to iv. To approach a chord by a dominant that is a step under the resolution is not unheard of.
The bVII could be just a minor V with the 11th as well, as it has the same notes, and function wise it's more appropriate I think
Antoine Martin true. Another example of this used in pop music often is a V7 of vi resolving to IV instead of vi. Or E dominant 7 resolving to F major instead of a minor in the key of C Major
this blows my mind. you’re so incredibly talented!! the slap completely changes the texture of the progression

VI V i III iv VII i
Thank you for re-uploading this with fixed chord charts.
But the chord chart is still wrong. The B7 chord is a Baug7add11 and the G7 is a G7add13.
@@mickeyrube6623 stfu
@@mickeyrube6623 actually is B7 11b13. altered to resolve to Em
@@mickeyrube6623 Also shouldn't Dadd9/B be Bm7add11? Both chords have the same exact notes, but usually everyone calls that particular shape a Bm7 and the open high e would be the 11th in relation to the note B.
Bm7add11 = B D F# A E (1, m3, 5, b7, 11)
Dadd9/B = B D F# A E (6th in the bass, 1, 3, 5, 9)
ichica's voicing = B A D F# E
I mean I guess it depends on what you want to call it, but considering that the song is in E minor, I feel like calling the chord the flat 5 chord makes more sense than calling it a flat 7 chord, especially because the lowest note in the voicing is a B and not a D.
ik im over-analyzing but im trying to learn more about theory lol
@@joseph3339 Joseph Han B7 11 chords don't exist. Are the 11 and b13 supposed to superscript? Then maybe, but you should then write B7(11b13). I would type it as B7add11b13. Altered to resolve to the Em chord? B7 resolves to Em, unaltered. The added notes are E and G. They don't resolve to E and G. That's stupid. Do you mean a B7alt chord? Then that would be a B7(#5,11). The G is not a b13, unless there is a fifth in the chord. And this is considered an altered dominant 7th chord. But...a B augmented chord also resolves to a Em, and especially a Em7 chord! The first 3 chords contain B, G, and E. So I consider these as drones or pedal tones. There is a clear E-D#-D path in the chords.

I Can't Quite Wrap my head around the picking pattern he uses. He mostly starts off by pulling the string and then strumming down.
But what happens next? Is he just pulling the low E again?
