- Christine Ha talks about her personal experiences being blind and how it shaped her perspective on how people treat the disabled. She sheds light on how many of the things we take for granted everyday are not always so accommodating to others who deal with disabilities.
Christine was the the first ever blind contestant and season 3 winner of the competitive amateur cooking television show, “MasterChef” USA, on FOX with Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot, and Joe Bastianich. She defeated over 30,000 home cooks across America to secure the coveted MasterChef title, a $250,000 cash prize, and a cookbook deal. Christine’s first cookbook, Recipes From My Home Kitchen: Asian and American Comfort Food, was a New York Times best seller. Her latest foray into television is a Canadian cooking show on AMI called “Four Senses”, on which she is a co-host with Carl Heinrich, season 2 winner of “Top Chef” Canada.Christine also has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Houston. During her time there, she served as Fiction Editor for Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts.

You do realize that that's quite impossible right?
You can reduce or eliminate certain frequencies of sound, but you can't just remove one sound.
For example, if you have twins that sound a LOT alike(but different enough that you can tell them apart) and you remove one twin's voice, you'll also remove all the frequencies from the other twin that they share.
The same applies here. If you remove the translator's voice some of Ha's voice is also going to be removed.

I must admit this is something I never thought of being a real problem. There are so many area's we take in everyday life for granted. Its really hard for me to imagine what an inconvenience things that we see as routine or simple as a hardship for those that are blind. She really is an inspiration and an advocate for those that are blind. God bless you Christine. Never give up this fight.

I chose Christina Ha as in public speaker. I will be presenting her and sharing her story with my class and teacher, as in part of my assignment. She is an inspiration, I watched her every episode on master, I knew with the dedication she would win. She is The living example of struggle to success stories. First I've got to say that I admire Christine Ha a lot. And I've come to realize that what she said about us humans being 'temporarily abled' is so so true. Especually about my aunt, having gradually lost her vision due to aging which is inevitable for all of us including everyone me and you. It's been kinda enlightening to hear that from her and see how true it is.
From the irony of daredevil the series to going blind at an early age . The master chief Christina ha cooks up the essentials of being blind and shows you how to be masterfull of your 4 senses in brillant fashion.

I've put on a blindfold in my home one day and I have to say I was totally lost. I will try again now though and see, however I can't imagine how I would possibly get around at an airport with so many people around. Christine I tried the cell phone selfie and no way was that possible, wow! I have some work to do. I really want to understand and learn how you navigate around. Thank you for coming out and speaking here, because you were not born blind inspires me to try and enter this dark world for a time. I'm Blessed thus far as I've reached that lucky age of 77 and I still have my sight but I see it fading so I'm open to learn just in case. I'm now teaching myself to sign as well since my hearing loss is not good at all. I'm smiling large now as each day I'm teaching myself a new language so I ask myself what the heck took me so long to do these things. Here after watching her season of MasterChef. She really is an inspiration to the differently abled, women, and immigrants all over the world. I am so happy that I had the honor of watching her cook and proving to everyone that having a disability doesn't mean you can do all the same things that other people do.

When you talked about navigating through an airport , that really opened my mind to the challenge any disabled person faces. Others take the convince for granted( nothing wrong with it) , but your talk makes me have respect for life in general.

Thank you Christine for your very informative talk. I could really relate, having become legally blind at 17 with Stargardt's disease. I've learnt that it is empowering to share how you see the world and tell people how they can help, and you gave some really useful examples for people to consider.

I have a VI student who loves technology immensely. I remember a month ago when her Siri app crashed and she couldn’t operate her phone anymore. She was so panicked that she wouldn’t be able to call her mother and let her know to meet her outside when her bus would be bringing her home. We of course let her family know immediately, but you could see it was like she was temporarily cut from her independence. When she brought up the part about being able to access social media, it hit home for me.

She is so motivational. I conducted a event last year which was a tactile tour for girls from BPA,Delhi. We went for a stables experience tour. This video motivated me to make a video on that event. I will make it shorty.
My girls did horse riding, learned how the horse skin feels, how they are kept in stables and feed and bathed. Beautiful experience. Thanks TEDx for this video. Will share my video soon,
