  • Nick Hohlbein (Auburn, CA) Nick Hohlbein Racing, Jr. 150 Speedway racer and recently back from a motocross injury involving a broken femur, returned to the track just in time for his first race, the 2020 Gumball Rally at Industry Hills Expo Center. He didn't quite expect just how good he would perform after being off the bike for several months, but it was clear he was feeling pretty good with how things ended. Take a look at the video below to get a quick rundown of Nick’s afternoon becoming the 2020 Jr. 150 Speedway Gumball Rally Champion.

The Gumball Rally has been around since its inception in the early 80’s and is currently hosted/promoted heavily by the legendary Kelly Inman.
The "Gumball Rally” is true to its name. The 1st place trophies are actual gumball machines like the ones you used to see next to the door of your neighborhood convenience store or sundry. And, it indeed takes a “rally” of sponsors, vendors, track staff, promoters and seasoned riders to come together to make it a success. This 2-day event is a prime example of what it means to pay it forward and continue growing a sport that in all honesty needs all the love it can get in the United States. Speedway has been facing a decline for years, unlike that of locations overseas where it is thriving, like Poland, the UK, & Sweden. In the U.S., attracting and retaining young up-and-coming riders is essential if it's to be around for years to come.
The overall prize purse for the Gumball Rally ended up being a healthy one thanks to the generosity of those that are passionate about Speedway and understand the importance behind supporting future riders. If there is any form of racing that has a sense of community, it is most definitely Speedway. No question. This was one of the first observations we made immediately, when first following the sport. It’s really neat to see the seasoned, experienced riders helping younger versions of themselves in a myriad of different ways. Whether offering to help them wrench in the pits, provide tips for better starts or "gating," or just being there as a fan cheering them on from the grandstands. It’s clear when you race Speedway, you are family.
To get involved this year, Race Reels wanted to provide the 2020 Jr 150 Speedway Gumball Champion with something he/she could use, not only to remember the days adventure, but also as a resource when promoting this accomplishment & sport online. So, we added a free 1-Min Race Reel video to the purse.
