The Largest Variation of MTB Trails in Scotland || Laggan, Glenlivet, Sgòr Gaoith and Aviemore

  • In this episode of Scotty’s Scotland Showcase we’re in the Cairngorms, the UK’s largest National Park. We head to Laggan Wolftrax, Laggan Brown, climb Dum-da-Lamph, ride at Glenlivet, head up the Munro Sgòr Gaoith and on a local recommendation explore some new trails in Burnside!
    00:00 Episode Intro
01:12 Laggan, Trail Centre, Black and Red
    04:19 Laggan Brown, Honey Monster
    05:29 Glenlivet, Orange Jump Line
    07:03 Glenlivet, Mini DH
    08:25 Sgòr Gaoith
    12:48 High Burnside
Laggan is known as the UK’s most progressive trail centre, famous for it’s massive rock slabs and technical ascents and descents. One of my favourite features is the ginormous rock slab, Air’s Rock. On the other side of the National Park is Glenlivet, they’ve been developing new trails and just this year they built an orange jump line! We also had the chance to check out their ‘Mini DH’ trail which is a hand cut natural trail with a good size jump line. Sgòr Gaoith is one of my favourite Munro’s in the Cairngorms, thanks to it being relatively accessible. Reaching the summit you have an incredible view and the descent is fast and technical all the way back down. Burnside is the trail network above Aviemore where the trails are rugged, burly and hand cut.
This episodes sustainability focus is on on rewinding, a fact very few might beware of is that only 4% of Scotland’s woodland is native and as a country we only have a 19% woodland coverage. Compare that to the 37% average in Europe. Once upon a time, our hillsides would have been covered in native woodland.
The entire series is being created carbon neutral. All our journey emissions will be offset and the advertising revenue generated from you watching this series will be split across planting more native trees in Scotland and the local trail associations.
All these rides are recorded on komoot so you can do them for yourself.

If you're interested in offsetting some of your own personal emissions and rewilding parts of the Scottish Highlands with native trees then please feel free to plant some trees in my grove!

I'm going out and saying that I think I was probably the first or one of the first to ride a mountain bike up high Burnside. Used to go up there on my steel full rigid bike when I was 14 or 15 and head straight down the hills through the trees. I'm 43 now so almost 30 years ago now! Need to get back "home" to Aviemore to give it a ride again. Probably a bit different now!

What a shame you had to ruin the soundtrack with that idiotic unlistenable racket. I missed the commentary as a result. What's wrong with natural sounds and the crunch of wheels on gravel?
