Gaming handhelds are so much better than gaming laptops in my opinion. Much rather carry a steam deck with a ultra thin 15in for work than to lug around a 2000 dollar gaming laptop.
I agree, but keep in mind this is not the most optimal Setup for everyone.
You need your Deck, a Screen and Mouse&Keyboard, saw some nice Wireless with a Touchpad. A laptop already has all of this included.
@@OraOraOra I get you. But there are days where I'm at a hotel and can just play the steam deck in bed and when I need to catch up on a little work. A Logitech mouse is just fine for the laptop.
@@OraOraOra pc handheld lovers already realize this and dont care
Different products for different purposes. Gaming laptops are still much better when it comes to power and will always be more powerful
Exactly seriously it’s so much better for gaming
My biggest problem with non-steam deck based devices is vendor support later. They have to work through microsoft whereas valve can just directly support their product.
And the community, too. The Valve support goes hand-in-hand with how big the Steam Deck community is online, especially on Reddit. The ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion (and potentially this MSI Claw) don't have the gravitas of the Deck community since it's got a more streamlined business-to-consumer relationship.
windows without some kind of gaming or handheld mode. just can't compete with SDOLED. Hardware has competition but software has none.
@@rhyzhyn nobara os works fine on my rog ally, as does windows with armoury crate. at the end of the i really dont care as long as i can play game
It’s called Windows.
@@davidslastplace Shhh don't say his name!
Gonna reserve my judgement until I see direct performance comparisons with the Ally and Legion Go
It’s intel u can judge lol
Performance is not the most important or only thing for a handheld, it is portability, battery life and about the screen, you probably want to be mobile with it. While I don't think that windows is optimal for a handheld at the same time.
@@thatwasonce no it’s not
@@theo5675core ultra intel did have a massive jump in GPU performance. I’m more worried about low TDP performance
@theo5675 exactly, intel making a good portable cpu that has power and dosent burn to a crysp? I have my doubts
I love this just because it means Intel is actually competiting with AMD and bought chip manufactures and more gaming companies view PC handhelds as a viable market. I'm currently happy with my Legion Go and Steam Deck, but I'm going to love seeing what comes out in the next few years.
Thinking of changing my legion go for this, my device freezes from time to time and some apps crash alot
@@Specter187 speak to Lenovo as mine isn't having any issues, you may have a bad egg
Competition is only valid if they lower the prices . Doesn't seems to be the case . Those handheld are 30% too expensive because you can get a laptop with better screen and spec for the same prices .
We need new operating systems. No more windows please
What do you use both for?
nice to see handhelds proliferating so much these days
Thank you Valve lol
@@AbysmalEnd preach
@@AbysmalEnd but there were some out before Steam Deck.
They were ass lol @@robertlawrence9000
in the end valve will win cause you know damn well all these handhelds gonna install steam by the games from steam anyways 😂😂😂
Battery dropped 4% in 11 minutes of non gaming on a 1080p screen. Hmmm
Nice :3, I didn't pay much attention to that. Many people are also overlooking the battery life, which is crucial for a handheld. It seems like a lot of them want at least 25 watts or more, without realizing they'll likely end up spending most of their time at home, plugged in. 😅
@@thepirateswirleda lot of people want big bright screens with huge resolutions and fast refresh rates and don't realize that that is a huge battery drain. If you refresh your monitor at 60 HZ versus 120 HZ you're going to use half the power consumption. People that want 144 Hertz monitor are going to use twice as much power because I have to refresh the display twice as much as a normal one. Furthermore brightness is a large factor and resolution plays a small part towards battery life.
I agree, and I would add that the efficiency of the SoC also plays a role, but yes ^-^. It is also a handheld, it doesn't need to have 1080p or 4k. The display still looks amazing to me though, the OLED one I mean. Compared to my LCD Switch even sharper, I'm satisfied. @@NinjaSushi2
The new intels are a downgrade on IPC and use more energy on idle, its very much the worst choice for a handheld....
That’s almost 4.6 hours I find that to be pretty good 🤷♂️
RGB is not supposed to be selling point.
Valve should offer motherboard upgrades when their next Gen comes out. They made it use serviceable, just sell us a board with a more powerful processor.
The future of hand held gaming is so exciting
Imagine these things coming out back in 2010, we couldn’t even comprehend the power these things make in this form factor. We’d genuinely think they were powered by magic
I still think this is magic haha
@@SavingPrivateBob You think this is magic lol. You should see the toys I play with in the Military. But for a US Citizen this is only the tip public don't get a fraction of what we play with lol.
It literally looks like an Ally clone but with a black shell.
And Intel. Doesn't seem like anything special (Other than likely slightly better battery life)
Quite different
microSD port seems to be in a very similar spot to the ROG Ally 😅
I really hope it won't have the same SD card issues as the Ally
Think they just took Rog design which is common they most likely just got the design from a company and just like change it up 😊
@@robertcastanpn288 yea, that's why I'm worried. My ROG Ally already has had the microSD slot malfunction / die twice 😅
@Dave2D took the back cover off and it looks like the Ally internally.
The places has nothing to do with the reason why's it breaks. It's a voltage issue that breaks the micro SD I.C and sometimes the micro SD card itself
@@takashy87 think one other thing worth mentioning asus didn’t make the back plate they
Prob approve of it and the deign but most
Likely a third party made it so it prob extra from that company
can the ram be replaceable as well like the ssd? cos it just have 16gb of ram only
The handheld gaming is getting fun there so much choices and Nintendo getting ready to release Switch 2. I am excited with the platform and prices are a big plus.
love seeing all these handhelds coming out! As a kid I had lots of generations of GameBoy's, Nintendo DS's, even PSP's. Right now I have the LE OLED Steam Deck and the fact that I can still enjoy all these games from previous handhelds on my current generation handheld is peak! cant wait for whats to come!
Thank you for being from the very few channels with a hands on. Also the most detailed out there other than dave2d . Yall killin it!
Can't wait for the comparison, I've been waiting so long for this! Would be nice to get more competitors on board such as Dell and Acer.
MSI recent track record + intel recent track record = Imma stay far away from this device.
Isn’t the micro sd card slot location similar to the ROG Ally’s?🤔 i’m worried that since it’s close to the fans, the heat might damage the sd card🙁
Chip competition is good! Hope MSI will add oculink port - its more simple for drivers and less overhead then tb4/usb4
How much ram does the claw have?
What performance on helldivers 2?
2:20 lmao at the dude in the back doing stretches 😂
Why did they put the SD card in the same spot of ROG Ally.. let's see if this card slot also fails... I was holding off the ROG ALLY Cause of this SD problem but now this might have the same issues..
You could say the MSI Claw is literally tearing him apart 😅 with the amount of bandages he's rocking
No games to benchmark and compare the fps with the other 2 devices?
If y'all didn't stay till the end you're missing out.
Release date ? Holiday 2024 ?
MSI: Hey, let me copy your homework.
ASUS: Okay, but just change it up a bit so the teacher doesn't notice.
how's the battery life?
Can emulators work with intel video cards?
They could at least copy the Steam Deck touchpads since what you are essentially running is window. The addition of touchpads would make it easier to navigate in window with the pointer and scrolling through pages.
I'd say the four buttons on the back like the deck has should be standard on all handhelds.
@@KielBasaKisser99 agreed, almost everything the steam deck has done simply need to be the standard.
@Kidbuntu Not to mention the touchpads can also make a decent alternative way to aim, along with giving you an easy way to activate gyro aim without having it be bound to the right joystick so you can switch from aiming with it to gyro easily.
@@KielBasaKisser99 to be honest the aiming with the trackpads is not my favourite. It just felt weird for me for some reason. I mostly use the trackpads for desktop mode and web browsing because it’s better than using the joy sticks.
@Kidbuntu Oh same for me, I use it for what you do and just activating gyro really, but it's there for aiming none the less. I feel like that could be improved.
Just can't understand what took this so long to catch on...been wanting a gaming handheld for years. Happy to see all the competition coming to market.
This is like my childhoods dream come true and now there’s so many pc gaming handhelds
I recently got a steam deck oled, and i gotta say, the touchpads and the overall user experience is amazing. From a day to day perspective, I've been playing kingdom come: deliverance (steam version) and I enjoy it so much more than playing it on my PS5. The touch pads though! I think are essential for a mobile desktop environment. I actually use them instead of the right stick when i play kingdom come. Its more mouse-like and feels way more accurate than the stick does.
Im stoned so hopefully this made sense!
You're stoned and you typed the words "mobile desktop environment"? Don't try so hard. If you want to advertise Steam Deck, just do that.
nah hes good - it's called "desktop mode" on the Deck. Let the man be stoned and stop trying hard to be pedantic.@@SilverJoystix
I never use right stick, only track pads, Idk why you need the stick
@silverjoystix4696 he wrote it like that because he IS stoned
I got a Steam Deck and returned it. The thing is massive and heavy, I never use the touchpads, and many games do not work well on Linux.
VRR & another USB port this would of been perfect, i’m a MSi fanboy but i’ve got an Ally at the moment
i hoop the sd will not burn like the Rog ally, bcs is on the same place
looks like MSI saw ASUS's homework and just changed it a little :P
Same thoughts here... Everything is the same... Great mind from msi
Why do they have such thick borders?
Wait. Isn't the top version supposed to have 32GB?
competition is healthy. love to see more being made!
What's about the price ?
Meanwhile Sony:
"Handheld gaming is long gone. No market for such a thing"
How does Msi get to basically copy the rog ally. The layout and placement is very similar. Almost too similar.
Legion Go is amazing so i doubt i will go near this, surprised that was not there for the comparison being the best of the Windows handhelds.
and the OS?
Curious to see how the battery life conpare to the steam deck OLED
I doubt itll be as good as OLED. They claim 50% improved battery life over the Ally at 15W
Why didn't you compare it to the legion go?
I dont really need a handheld PC but seeing all of these new offerings is definitely making me WANT one!
Hmm the sd card placement is near the exhaust, might have the same prob as the ally
Funny. No mention the OLED deck is .4 inches bigger than other 2?
Is intel good for gaming? What do I get MSI claw or ROG ally?
Steamdeck
Bad naming, sound like MSI "Flaw", we now know what to nickname it.
Yikes! 😂
Lol
What is it actually like with frame generation on the MSI device? I think that's a blessing, especially with handhelds
Legion go 2tb from Microcenter was as low as $749. Not sure how this device is better than that.
I love my Legion Go!
The thing is, is that the Claw looks like it has BETTER cooling solution and it could perform a little better
Legion go still way better and its just getting better and better with every update
I agree I really like how it looks for cooling. Looks like itll even be better than the rog@thebiggest4910
Not sure why you’re so defensive and holding the Lenovo Legion Go up as the benchmark for comparison
No track pads no deal.. you gave me this thing I would use it as a cutting board for my afternoon lunch
ugh i JUST bought a Legion Go... I need to seem some actual performance before FOMO sets in...
I'm curious to see more about this product
I remember back in the day when Qualcomm cpus were dominating the smartphone market and Asus decided to launch the zenfone with an intel cpu. I was excited and decided to try it myself, I still regret my choice to this day.
I hope intel manage to do a good job with this handhelds. I’ll keep the Deck because I like the OS more, but competition is always good
Will it come with a case? Unlike the rog Ally that should have came with one especially for the price
Almost buy ROG ally yesterday but now I would like to get MSI claw!!!
i would like to ask the pl that did back buttons...wtf is going on with your fingers! ? are they square or some shit like that?
Considering x86 and x86_64 emulation on windows 11 arm has come far, Im more waiting for a gaming handheld with arm chips.
I'm getting a lot of deja vu from 20 years ago when tablet PC OEMs were implementing custom UIs to try to make up for Windows Vista and 7 not being a good tablet OS. Microsoft eventually fixed this when Windows 8 was released. My guess is that Windows 12 will feature a handheld mode you can switch out of when docked, similar to how Windows 10's tablet mode works.
My biggest problem with the ally is the battery life. Hopefully future handhelds like this last longer than an hour on demanding titles
Don't gonna happen the philosophy of ally, legion go and others handlehelds are power pc gaming, big number is better, so unless battery technology evolve 100 years on the next days that is a impossibility.
That ending 😂 classic.
I cant believe MSI wanted to target Battery life and went for Intel 😂
This year intel mobile chips are more efficient. Just as much as AMD chips now. It's Intel playing catchup this gen if anything.
@@volcalstonelol no 😂 Intel's graphics performance is no where near AMD performance
Intel is crap nowadays. Hard pass if possible. Sadly, laptops that use AMD have lower specs than Intel laptops. Like Intel has a market with laptop makers where do they put the nicer features on intel only laptops. I hate that shit.
The latest Intel mobile chips are very good, and the GPU performance has doubled over last gen, so yes, Intel is very competitive or even better than what AMD is offering.
The fact that Intel is still using a 7nm technology itself gives a bad vibe to their processor lineup while competition had reached 3nm and still moving forward. Hence anything Intel says now has to be taken with a grain of salt. 😁
Does it have v r r
Me having the rog Ally my next handheld will be the onexplayer x1 will be the one to beat with the intel 7 a 155H 10.95 inch screen at 1440p with 64gb of ram and 4tb of storage. Now this one is going to be a beast the price tag is at 2,400 with this spec’s, but no handheld is going to come close to this.
Does it have VRR?
Yes
This black Rog Ally looks good.
Great first look. Thanks, Patrick
What I heard and from the specs of ROG Ally is that it has AI noise cancelling, Hi res or def besides certifications, built in mic and I didn't see those specs on the MSI claw. But if the one shown is just a prototype then its still in development until full retail release. The touch screen on the MSI claw is a plus like a track pad which means MMORPG games like Final Fantasy XIV online playable. I wonder how it'll work on dock mode connected to a tv and multiple BT controllers. If the case is modular does that mean we could add more back triggers if another company made extra molds? I guess we'll have to wait and see how it compares to the emulation and pc capabilities when its on retail.
Just to take note, the battery life on the MSI Claw did drop 1% while doing absolutely nothing on the MSI Centre screen throughout this video, so perhaps the battery life isn’t that good. You can probably expect around one hour and half of gaming, like the other two handhelds from Steam and ASUS.
Battery Life?
1:16 LETS TO! IM SO GLAD THEY CARE ABOUT THE BATTERY!
honestly thats the only reason why i went for the deck instead of the ally, the battery is much better
Im so glad they put it in mind along with performances rather than just care about specs and leave batteries at the end of the list
Sorry, but i bet its going to be a lot worse than the Deck and worse than the ally.
Those new intels have worse IPC than previous gen Intel and a lot worse than AMD, those core ultra 7 have a minimum TDP of 15w and need around 30w to perform well, add to this the resolution of the screen...
Hey Acer where you at? waiting for a predator handheld gaming device
So that's why the Ace ally is the champ because it's in the middle of both of them And it has on the screen VRR
Its kinda weird to see umpc getting bigger and bigger in size because I started to think, did it really need that big for a portable device? I own SD & rog ally, and those two are already BIG & HEAVY in my hand. Then Legion go came out and its even bigger and bulkier. This one doesnt look that extreme, but still a tad bigger than ally.
no touchpad to easy navigate
Too bad the controls/grips aren't detachable like the Lenovo handheld. I'm interested in buying one to use to run a DAW on for live electronic music performances.
Thing looks like a black ROG Ally. Main things I'm looking for in my handheld are battery life and having two USB type C ports so I can use my AR glasses and charge it at the same time. Hence why I am leaning towards legion go.
I just got an ally and now I need this
Switch and deck really start this meta huh
I commented in a video saying i would love to see other gaming companies brands build a gaming handheld and i guess msi heard me and listen
Weird how there's no Legion Go comparison
The competition in this space is great
Really missing Gordons take on CES, hopefully next year.
Starting at $700 and going up to $800, this thing is DOA. There’s no way anyone looks at this compared to a $550 OLED Steam Deck, and wants to buy it. The handheld marketplace is already getting fairly crowded with other well performing handhelds. No chance. Guarantee that every reviewer says that it’s over priced, even if it delivers good performance.
Don't trust MSI they been making crap motherboards and GPU's lately.
"Crap motherboard" Very true!
Damn true...their mother board has driver issues
Damn. They used to be so good too! Back in 2012 they were king.
Facts I stay away from MSI
I don't trust OP, he does not know the difference between they've and they.
See how painting with a broad brush is silly?
No VRR? Seems like a big miss
Lmao the ending
You didn’t bring Lenovo legion go?
Battery life is how long
Bang for Buck with use of any A2 SD makes the Steam Deck a ingenious contender…❤
damn i was close to buying the RoG ally but i may wait on this assuming it releases very soon.
The grip shallow on the switch is understatement lol. Switch don't even have a grip (stock with no case) lol.
Those prices are insane but it sounds like a great system.
I don't even care about handhelds and still find this entertaining. As much as it's interesting to see how much power can be packed into a system when space and thermals aren't a constraint it's also interesting to see what can be achieved in tight restraints like handhelds and ultrathin laptops. Looking forward to the review and teardown.
Same thing for me. 😊
So…. It’s a black ROG Ally with less power, and no Armory Crate. But it does have a slightly larger battery and the exact same placement for the memory card so it should have the same issue as the Ally.
