Hi Bruce, the material in this video is so helpful in gluing together your other videos that it would be worth redoing if you can find the time You know - without the howling gale this time 😀
Personal Comment of Laura Botten: I get most of my family history stories from my Grandma, from whom I get my Scottish connections. 1066 Battle of Hastings was the only date in history she could remember for certain 😂 Good old Scots!
I think your videos are great! Unfortunately, the wind and trains passing drowned out some of the dialogue in this one. Any chance of doing the audio again?
Hi William, I made this one when I was farting about a few years ago. I only started being serious in April when COVID stopped me working as a stand~up or a tour guide. I recently bought a set up that deals with wind better. Little by little I'm learning stuff I didn’t know before. Unfortunately that one's too deep in the past
Hi Bruce, Yer daenin well mate! Yer vocals may need a wee bit dubbing or did you leave it in for effect? I'm following your stories now and just wondering why this was not the history that I was given at school! Of course the teachers have got to follow the curriculum.... It wasn't until I'd left school that I had discovered that Bruce was of French decent! And now that his forefathers came up to help control the south from the Forth and Clyde rivers fits in. At one stage I was hopping it was something to do with the crusades and the Knights Templar. That's the old romantic in me; Roslyn Chapple and all! I was told that King Malcolm Canmore died at the end of a siege on a French castle (again part of the holy crusades to free the French from the tyranny of the Muslims at the time). Where they would only give surrender to the King. When he went to the gates to receive the gesture of the keys of the city which were dangled at the end of a spear; was run through with the spear and that's how he met his death! The other part was that the Bruce's controlled Fife. Also the first true capital of Scotland as we know it now was Dunfermline under Malcolm Canmore's rule. I'm surprised that you have not mentioned that Fife is a kingdom in it's own rite and still is! Yes I'm a Fifer fi Dunfermline! Keep up the good work Bruce, and Thank you!
We're you driving that bus ? I swear I heard a bus door . Maybe you can find a more quite place like Glasgow international airport runway .LOL Just kiddin ye on , I see this was an early one ... love your channel !!
I just learned I’m a descendant of Alexander I. my grandfather’s cousin was doing research and I found out literally yesterday. I don’t know how to process this news.
The background noise didna bother me Bruce. I've been piping for 40+ years, and I'm half deef from that (as well as a lot of gunshots without protection). So I put the close captions on with every video I watch. Though the caps on this video are way out of sync with what you're saying. 'Tis wha it 'tis.
unfortunately, the sound quality on this video was so bad with wind and other extraneous sounds even the subtitles gave up and could barely make out what you were saying such a shame
So basically once again Scotland was way ahead of the curve in that no matter who was supposedly nominally the King in Scotland a shadowy group controlled all no matter which side the King represented. The King was only King as long as the group made bank. However if the King started to interfere with group it was time for a new King.
I swear to the big man upstairs, it wouldn't matter where you went, you'd get random folk photo bombing your video, a car driving past or a train running over your head! Hope you didn't get track marks in yer hair😉
I really like your videos but this one sucks. I actually want to listen to your story but it's really a pain in the sock trying to hear you. Couldn't you find an even noisier place to make a video?
Maybe don't record in a high winds under a train bridge, but I love your work! My half-Scottish heart beats for you!
And have someone work on the CC because it doesn't make a bit of sense!
444th like. A nice round number. Keep keeping up the good work, Bruce 🥃🌞
Your work is brilliant. We look forward to when you can do this one again.
Aye, that was in the old days before I got serious

Watching the subtitles trying to cope with your lovely accent and the background noise is good fun. The history is crazy as usual.
Aye that was a proper early one that should really have been taken down. Productions values improved since then
@@ScotlandHistoryTours plz don't take any down unless replaced.
Forward!

😂 I updated this video now that I have better skills and production values. Here's the update ruclips.net/video/Mh3RGCby8C8/видео.html
Shame about the background noise otherwise brilliant topic.
You should have made that video again. It looked good but the wind and train noise was awful. Oh, and I'd have paid the fare to Inchcolm for you :)
I know, this is very old and before I took this stuff seriously
Way too much background noise.😥 I had a very hard time hearing you. But I love your videos😊
I replaced it with this ruclips.net/video/Mh3RGCby8C8/видео.html
I just learned I’m a descendant of Alexander I. my grandfather’s cousin was doing research and I found out literally yesterday. I don’t know how to process this news.
I'd say just get on with enjoying life same way as yesterday

Wow, you went way back to the old days there mate. Thankfully we've improved production values since then
Is the Hawes tavern still there? It’s where Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Kidnapped.
This was a few years ago, but I'm planning a re-make. I''ll find out
Yes it’s still there
Explains the popularity of Margaret and of Alexander in my tree.
i think youre going to have to re record this one. you cant hear anything over the wind and the trains
I did ruclips.net/video/Mh3RGCby8C8/видео.html
The list goes on and on.. you're a good egg
Wow, that's a really old one from way back. Production values weren't great then
In many of my own home videos I've suffered from the wind....
Now that I'm better at this I updated this video ruclips.net/video/Mh3RGCby8C8/видео.html
"That's not a coincidence, that's colonization"
Aye maybe ye should look to getting some wind suppression equipment
Dis you see the date?
unfortunately, the sound quality on this video was so bad with wind and other extraneous sounds even the subtitles gave up and could barely make out what you were saying such a shame

This was proper old with poor production values. I updated this video recently ruclips.net/video/Mh3RGCby8C8/видео.html

🙁😖
