I ride a full ridge single speed. Why? Because I know I don't have time for constant maintenance and don't have $$$ to burn. I have fun, and I am in great shape. Plus it allows me to ride with my lady on her geared hardtail.

If your trails are full of rocks, roots and rough, go with a full suspension.
@@ariebenschop4632 Depends on how constant the roots are. If they were non stop along the entire trail system, might want to consider full suspension. There are plenty of trails that can go either way and ultimately it's a personal preference thing anyway.
@@ariebenschop4632 Btw I talked about a 1000 dollar full sus being bad, but I have a Polygon Siskiu d7 at 1,300 and it isn't bad at all. Just a recommendation
I owe you guys more than I can convey. Started biking a month ago after running into your videos. Today life is better in every way. I bought the 2018 Whyte 905 hardtail. Best purchase of my life. Lucky I'm old enough and don't have to listen to my mom scream at me to come in at night because I never want to get off this thing. Your content means a lot to me and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Ty you guys.
Was going to write the same! I started around May this year with a cheap supermarket MTB, used. I always rode such bikes and to me they were good enough. This bike lasted a week, I sold it for buying a acid green Diamondback sync 2.0 which I didn't even know the use of it. I saw that it looked great with good brakes. I thought it was ok. Plus, I loved it green. I met some people and together we went for a improvised trail nearby Wien, Austria. I loved it and I was damn scared of going fast! Few months ago I subscribed Seth's channel and some weeks after to your as well, Alex. You guys gave me so much knowledge and fun with your videos that everyday, when I reach the end of the day and leave the office, I go home take the bike and ride. Not many trails here so I just ride it in the city and bicycle path, but I ride it and I feel great!
Who won? Both of you are very skilled riders. Both were pushing their limits. Each was encouraging to the other. That makes two winners. Thanks for sharing a great day.
DUDES in motorcycle culture there's a saying: "it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow." Maybe that kind of applies here? I have a carbon hardtail now and I love that you've gotta put in a bit more effort to get along. Kinda like stick shift vs. automatic in a car!
Well in stick shift you also have more control and awareness over what your ride does, you integrate more with it. Do you think it also compares to bikes?
Daily MTB Rider maybe the issue is people have hardtails with XC geometry and no dropper. is not much fun to have at most 100mm of travel and see people in FS go by like it is nothing. I'm betting if mine was at least 120mm and 27.5 I would feel more at home and have as much fun as I have on my FS
I’m currently riding a way to big xc bike with 29 inch tyres. I actually rode some parts of a selfbuild mx park with it and it I felt way to comfortable XD I’m ridden on a stereo 150 with 27.5 tyres, it feels nice especially for jumping but my hardtail is way to fun though. I wouldn’t ride big jumps on a hardtail (maybe not even on a full sus cause I can’t jump) but I like riding stairs and some big gravel section on it and If I had the money I’d buy a ghost asket or the syncr #hardtails4ever
I'm one of those "hardtails fanatics" (on a 150mm steel frame) but you Sir spoiled it for me: after watching your Whistler video think I'm gonna switch to ping-pong or similar :)
New riders, especially mountain bike riders tend to learn the craft and basic skills on a hardtail. It's usually first bike purchase so I think hard tails are here to stay.

this filming on the bike is just amazing, this kind of footage is what i think of when you talk about Gopro. Really cool, i wish we had bike trails like this in sweden!
Hardtails don't get enough love! If I'm out filming all day, I'll grab my SB5+. But, if I want to ride to have fun I'll grab my Chromag Rootdown B.A. every single time. It's so hard to describe, but it just turns the fun factor up to 11 to rip your favorite trails on a HT. Hopefully this bike makes a stop in Colorado so I can duke it out with them on the Chromag. I race against full suspension guys with a HT trail bike, and get on the podium routinely. HT teaches you technique, but is slower on super technical terrain. Love my hard tail, and won’t give it up. I think there are places for hard tails and full suspension bikes! #allthebikes

I'm pretty new to your channel, literally just watched the tour of Hannah's van and now I see you've got a van of your own, congrats dude! You and Seth have got me riding again after 12 years of only using my bike to commute so thanks!
Love the sounds of the hardtails! Hearing you lose traction and slide made for a much more thrilling watch, didn’t expect that I would enjoy the audio that much. Daily MTB Rider just uploaded a video where he jumps a hardtail 40 ft. at Whistler Bike Park!
Just came across yours and Seth's channels. Awesome content and filming. Haven't mountain biked in decades but may do soon after watching all these videos. Keep up the great work!
Your diction has audibly improved over time. To the point where I noticed, for the first time, how good it is. Getting Seth to ride like an asshole is always a plus. Waiting for the chase with Brian.
I think your being reallly humble this video, your speed is insane. As someone just getting into mountain biking I feel like your on the U.S.S enterprise flying through the trees lol

at the beginning of the video I voted that you could not keep up with Seth , but DAMN was I wrong haha,, you can shred on that bike haha,, cheers dude.
you and me both! i was like Seth's gonna drop him hard! oh well live and learn Alex got really fast lately.🔥 👏👏👏 Next vid should be titled "Can Seth keep up with the Singletrack Sampler" 🙌🤘🤘🤘🙌
I ride a hardtail now because it was inexpensive and a great way to get into the sport. Its also been a great way to learn and hone my skills. By the time I upgrade to a full suspension, I'll be faster and more knowledgeable of how to ride trail.
I ride a hard tail because that's what I have. I'd love to buy a sick $4,000 fully but it's not a reality for me to spend that kind of money on a bicycle. Not that I'm poor or anything but I just can't justify it. One day I'll upgrade to a $2k range fully but probably not for a few more years. I have tons of fun on my $700 Kona Fire Mountain with the few upgrades that I've done so far. Keep shredding guys 👍
Everyone needs a hardtail in the garage. When the full sus goes down, bust it out and shred! Good job Alex! You have progressed so much, and yes you totally kept up!!! Super impressed! Hardtails seem to help you find the best lines, and then you run those lines on your full sus, and drop your buddies!
New subscriber, and a new rider here. I just bought my first bike hardtail bike and loving it!!! I think you kept up pretty good till you took a fall. Great video structure also.
@@RealMTBAddict I can assure you there is. I learnt all my skills on a hardtail and then upgraded to a full sus when my bike started to hold me back. I wouldn't change anything, this way gives you all the skills you need to ride well and when you do get a full sus, it'll feel amazing.
Yes it's a great video I myself like to ridet hardtails better than full suspension. Alex you have improve your skills so much in the last year man congratulations
This is the first CIKU vid I've seen. Holy crap it was super-exciting! I have never been "on the edge of my seat" for a YT MTB vid but something about being able to see so much of the front of your bike AND see Seth in front of you AND the SHEER SPEED you guys were going was just riveting. Great job, guys. Also, that trail is totally tits. I think you kept up just fine, Alex!!
For one I gotta say this was a really good and entertaining video. Let's get some more content like this. I also gotta say I've been watching you for a while now Alex and your skills have improved massively so kudos to you man. I'd like to see a round 2 of this but get some Minions on Seth's bike too. I think that would make it a more even match. IDK what kinda Kendas were on Seth's bike but they looks XCish
bro one more comment I have seriously noticed in the last 6 months you have picked up soooo much speed I was telling the wife the other day I think your the fastest guy on RUclips that I watch nice job Alex well deserved victory my friend!!
10 a C e bikes Jody Bennett II I think you're right about Alex getting faster, but you should also check out Trail Peek. Fastest trail riding YT'ers I've seen so far.
Pretty jealous!!! I have a 2017 Sync'r Pro and LOVE it. The kids and I watch both channels and love the content you guys produce. Keep them coming, and thank you.
I didn't know you could ride like that. Looked really smooth. Of course Seth had the pressure of leading but looked great! You should lead for the rematch.
It's the first one I have seen. Kitsuma is the perfect spot for can you keep up. Skills and fast. Alex, this is your first video in a while I have liked this much
I mostly only ride my hard tail. Super fast and smooth. If something is gonna be really rough I try I to pop up and over it and land on the other side of the rough part. One thing I wish my hardtail had is a bash guard. I do hit trees and rocks sometimes on bunny hops gone wrong.
I think you did a good job keeping up with Seth. I really liked the video, just adds more fun to it when it's got a little competition going on! You, Seth, and Skills with Phil have gotten me back on a bike. I'm 40 and haven't ridden since I was a kid back in the RAD BMX days! LOL
So I’m newly getting into mountain biking. I recently bought a hard tail primarily because I rode a buddies full suspension and the squishy feeling from the suspension felt unnatural to me. When I was younger and lived in GA my friends and I would play a game similar to this ripping through some trails that we made to cut through sections of the woods in order to get across town faster. However we determined the winner by “tagging” the guy in front. Tagging meant that you would get your front tire past the guys rear tire and lightly steer into them. They then would drop back to the next position and first one to the destination won. It was pretty sketchy thinking back on it an I’m surprised none of us got hurt. Love your videos man your energy gets me stoked to go ride.
I started riding in the late 80s hardtail and my last hardtail was a Gary Fisher Procaliber 1991. I then bought a Devinci Banzai Full suspension in 1995-96? and never looked back going through Santa Cruz and Rocky Mountain Bicycles till this year. I bought a Specialized Fuse hardtail last week with some upgrades and loving it. Feel like back in Moab 1991 except then my Procaliber didn't even have suspension for or clipless pedals! It's all in the way you feel about riding and what makes you feel good. No one bike is good for everyone. Ride what you like and don t be swayed by the hype. Thx guys great stuff your producing!
I think that Alex has upped his biking skill set. I also think you two are going a whole lot faster than you realize. I'd like to see an older video side by side speed comparison. The fact is that Seth is just fast even when he's having a bad day.... Now, hard tails should be in ones stable, even an all mountain type in my humble opinion. It forces one to learn to take not so sketchy lines and handle the jank even better by being gravity conscious on bike positioning. So, when you do go full squish, you're even smoother. So, here's the challenge, can you ride the BLACK DIAMONDS on a hard tail and get down just as fast as you would on a full squish? I know you guys like challenges.....
Love that both of you are out there on the carbon Sync'r now...I think it was a pretty even battle out there! I have loved that bike even since the photos emerged from Sea Otter. Keep the amazing videos coming!
A HT should be everyone's first bike. It teaches you how to choose lines and bunny hop easier. IMO when someone buys a full sus straight out it's because they had too much disposable income.
Hardtails are certainly no dying breed and anyone saying they're outdated is a casual little clod that doesn't do more than pretend to be an MTBer, that runs over every bad feature using all that travel as a crutch and thinks he's hot shit at picking lines. They have their own charm and style, which doesn't really compete with full sus but in certain cases overlaps with those.
I am definitely impressed! You have improved so much and the hardtail locks on you very well Alex! Nice lines, speed and control, awesome video. Thank you guys. (you certainly kept up with Seth!)
Hardtail for life! When I win the lottery and can afford $3000+ bikes I'll buy a full sus. Until then, I'll keep my $1200 Fathom that has literally everything.
I have the Fathom 1 29er and just got the Jekyll 3. I've been on the Jekyll once but my Fathom feels so much more fun! Although, the Jekyll is like a wild stallion. It wants to do what it wants to do. But love my Giant Fathom!
Well that Fathom doesn't have a rear shock or linkage etc so it doesn't have everything and full suspension mtb's are wayyyy better and way more capable than hardtails
@@The_Real_JN full sus is great if you lack the skill levels as there far more forgiving. Personally I believe if you have never ridden a hard tail hard you shouldn't have a full sus yet
@@ThePoisonDwarf1 yeah I get what you're saying. I've had two hardtails myself, one a GT Zaskar and the other a specialised. And I don't lack the skills, I believe a full sus allows you to ride and shred harder because they're more forgiving. I mean, you can do a lot of downhill terrain on a full sus but I don't think it would be easy to shred that sort of stuff on a hardtail
@@The_Real_JN I've owned A fair few bikes over the years but one think that's been consistent is owning a hard tail I think everyone should have one its not suited to everything but what it does do is make everything fun lol oh and it will make you a better rider overall. It's a bit of a right of passage in my eyes. Would I spend 3k on a hard tail nope but I I deffo think its worth owning a sub £1000 hard tail for the fun factor.
I recently refurbished my old hardtail (like 2006-old) and am loving it. Your video definitely displays one of the drawbacks: I find that braking coming into corners, I just don't have the rear tire traction that I've gotten used to with my Ripley. Lots more skidding, less control. The other disadvantage would be 'chunder' repeated small hits suck on the hardtail.
Im just getting into MTB, crossing over from BMX, and my first time watching this channel. lol very exciting to watch. Just bought my first MT bike this week, a Diamondback Hook. Excited to start riding like this
😂 Comment at 5:32 equals brake check at 10:09. (**Seth giggles as he pulls away**) ... “I’m bringing him in closer Merlin. I’m gonna hit the brakes and he’ll fly right by.” May have just revealed my age with that Top Gun reference. 😣
I keep a 2.8 alum HT as a backup, and try to make it a point to ride it maybe a couple times a month. I truly feel that going full sus to HT now and then does improve your skills. Note: I love the feel of the change every time
Loved the video. As I big hard tail fan would like to see more like this. Although I do like full suspension for certain rides. Hard tails always seem to get the adrenaline higher. Keep up the great videos.
@@christianrodriguez7478 I've ridden this trail many times and I've only gps max speed of 28mph. I could tell from video they were going faster than me.
Hello Alex, Seths oooouuu my good the verys crazy in Trail, fantastic fast speed in bikes, very verys insane show video image, thanks Alex, Seth's my friend's🇧🇷😎🤘🏼
This video definitely helped me decide between hardtail and full sus. I'm getting back into MTB after a break from roadbikes and having ridden mtb in my youth. I ride a hardtail now because it was inexpensive and a great way to get into the sport. Its also been a great way to learn and hone my skills. By the time I upgrade to a full suspension, I'll be faster and more knowledgeable of how to ride trail.
Been waiting on this video to drop!! I think you both rode amazing. I have to say Sampler got this one.
🙌👊🤟
I ride a hard tail because that's what I have. I'd love to buy a sick $4,000 fully but it's not a reality for me to spend that kind of money on a bicycle. Not that I'm poor or anything but I just can't justify it. One day I'll upgrade to a $2k range fully but probably not for a few more years. I have tons of fun on my $700 Kona Fire Mountain with the few upgrades that I've done so far. Keep shredding guys 👍
Justin Fountain Take a look at the Vitus Sommet range on chain reaction.
It's not what you ride, it's how many bugs you eat from that shit-eating grin you get from the ride.
I can second that
get the specialized camber. its around $1200 full suspension trail/xc bike
Jose Valdovinos thanks for the suggestion! 👍
One of the best footage on the channel. Very awesome to watch!
What hardtail did u buy
i have a hardtail because i can't afford a full suspension bike i'm saving though
Lots of us in that situation, ride what you've got mate.😁
@mtb supertroll which one, and how much
@@RealMTBAddict I can assure you there is. I learnt all my skills on a hardtail and then upgraded to a full sus when my bike started to hold me back. I wouldn't change anything, this way gives you all the skills you need to ride well and when you do get a full sus, it'll feel amazing.
I am saving to!!!
I have a hardtail because it was my first bike, I’m getting a more aggressive one for my next bike.
Yes it's a great video I myself like to ridet hardtails better than full suspension. Alex you have improve your skills so much in the last year man congratulations
Thanks Pedro!!
I just love the connection with the trail you get with the hard tail. And you get more power down to the wheel.
Eggsackley! My bike (Raleigh Tokul 3) came with those kendas and I switched to the minions. Made a world of difference for my confidence.
Strava
HARDTAILS ARE THE BEST!!! I love riding my local trails on a hardtail and I love challenging myself on DH trails and shredding 🤘
bro one more comment I have seriously noticed in the last 6 months you have picked up soooo much speed I was telling the wife the other day I think your the fastest guy on RUclips that I watch nice job Alex well deserved victory my friend!!
10 a C e bikes Jody Bennett II I think you're right about Alex getting faster, but you should also check out Trail Peek. Fastest trail riding YT'ers I've seen so far.
Phil Kmetz from skills with phil is such a beast, you should check him out. Although Alex has improved quite a bit, he is nowhere near Phil´s speed!
Pretty jealous!!! I have a 2017 Sync'r Pro and LOVE it.
The kids and I watch both channels and love the content you guys produce. Keep them coming, and thank you.
I thought you were gonna get your ass handed to you on a plate, but props to you for slaying the trail and putting the hardtail to work. Awesome vid.
I didn't know you could ride like that. Looked really smooth. Of course Seth had the pressure of leading but looked great! You should lead for the rematch.
You really need to make that a t-shirt, "Stay loose. Take chances."
Found you due to the van build, I guess I’m buying a bike now though -___- sick videos man!!
What bike did you buy?
It's the first one I have seen.
Kitsuma is the perfect spot for can you keep up. Skills and fast. Alex, this is your first video in a while I have liked this much
This is honestly my favorite video of the samplers!
I mostly only ride my hard tail. Super fast and smooth. If something is gonna be really rough I try I to pop up and over it and land on the other side of the rough part. One thing I wish my hardtail had is a bash guard. I do hit trees and rocks sometimes on bunny hops gone wrong.
Stay loose , take chances!!! That needs to be a shirt!!!!!!
Somebody get on that they’ll sell like.......T-shirt’s
Just watching this makes me feel like I'm gonna hit a tree
Defs one of best vids I've seen. Gets me excited watching this.
I think you did a good job keeping up with Seth. I really liked the video, just adds more fun to it when it's got a little competition going on! You, Seth, and Skills with Phil have gotten me back on a bike. I'm 40 and haven't ridden since I was a kid back in the RAD BMX days! LOL
Better tyres on Alex's bike. Those minions are really good.
hus4berg this for sure! Alex is riding great but dhf dhr plus ftw
Yeah Kendra sucks ass
WTF is a Tyre????
sandy man Round, rubberised thing around your wheel.
A tyre in the Commonwealth is a same thing as a tire here in the States. DHFs are super overrated, though. I've ridden XC tires with more traction.
3:56 Seth mate u got a little confident 😂😂👊🤙
It's amazing you got the opportunity to ride such a grate bike.
Man! That my bike cost less than that rear mac xD
Muddy Paws Adventurer this is the best idea yet. "Can I handle the same trails" series
Awesome idea that would make for a great vid! Love it.
HORSE FACE, HORSE FACE, HORSE FACE... LOL
Hardtail all the way for me guys 🤘
Personally I prefer hardtails over full squish bikes
Same
I wouldn't have a hard tail for what I do but on trails hardtails are so much more fun
WHAT
Depends on thee trails u ride
You crazy
Mate honest I haven't watched your channel in a long while. And I'm really enjoying it now! Video skills multiple level up
Love that both of you are out there on the carbon Sync'r now...I think it was a pretty even battle out there! I have loved that bike even since the photos emerged from Sea Otter. Keep the amazing videos coming!
Riding a hard tail is like driving a manual vehicle. So much more satisfaction and you can push harder.
Man, Dudes-What a RIDE!!! You two definitely destroyed the trail!! Greetings from good old Germany
Are you Canadian, or have you just picked up a lot of Canadian over the years lol
My birthday party is going to be mtbing and then ordering taco bell🚵♂️🌮
Sounds like you are doing things right my man
I recently refurbished my old hardtail (like 2006-old) and am loving it.
Excited to start riding like this
New Handup Gloves "Just Juice It".
😂 Comment at 5:32 equals brake check at 10:09. (**Seth giggles as he pulls away**) ... “I’m bringing him in closer Merlin. I’m gonna hit the brakes and he’ll fly right by.” May have just revealed my age with that Top Gun reference. 😣
Tryp your gonna do whaaaat!
you were both flying, made me want a HT but dont ride that sort of stuff locally, looked MINT
Dudes do you even have an idea on how fast you were going?😮
I would say 30mph+
@@phoumistyles thats crazy
@@christianrodriguez7478 I've ridden this trail many times and I've only gps max speed of 28mph. I could tell from video they were going faster than me.
@@phoumistyles wow exciting
phoumi xayasone My friend and I sometimes hill bomb near his house and usually go 30mph but damn, it's so hard to turn, how do they do that lmao
Hard tails is the only bike I’ve on trails and mtbing is my life
Hello Alex, Seths oooouuu my good the verys crazy in Trail, fantastic fast speed in bikes, very verys insane show video image, thanks Alex, Seth's my friend's🇧🇷😎🤘🏼
Pretty sure I had as much fun watching as you two did riding. Great video, thank you!
This video definitely helped me decide between hardtail and full sus. I'm getting back into MTB after a break from roadbikes and having ridden mtb in my youth. Hardtail is definitely it for me - I love speed, but with the option to go on trails and through the woods wheneven I want. Awesome channel, Alex!
