- ENGLISH SUBTITLES AVAILABLE! Sara Siipola takes part in Finland’s Contest for New Music (UMK) 2024 with her song “Paskana” (“I’m a f***ing wreck”). This dramatic song deals with grief and gives the listener permission to be broken.
Finland's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest will be chosen during a live UMK final broadcast on February 10 at 9 PM at Nokia Arena, Tampere. The show will be broadcast by Yle TV1, Yle Areena, YleX, Yle Radio Suomi, and Yle X3M.

Whenever I think about Eurovision and listen to some genuinely excellent songs who have potential to win, I always return to mother Sara so she can show me who the true winner is.

Love to see so many songs in Finnish, countries are slowly getting rid of fear of singing in native language and see it as a clear advantage unlike in safe 2010s when everyone sung in English.

I love the lyrics because I feel it all, this better win the UMK and be Finlands entry this year. Cyan Kicks are great and I wanted them to win in 2022 but this is on another level
I was sceptical at first having only seen the title and not knowing anything about the artist, but wow what a gem this song revealed to be! A catchy melody that hooks you right away with straightforward lyrics that most anyone can relate to powerfully delivered by Sara's great voice. It really stands out among the often mediocre sillyness that tends to dominate in the Eurovison Song Contest. Fingers crossed that people realize the winning potential of this song and vote for it to represent Finland. Whatever happens, thank you Sara for bringing back the music. ❤

This isn’t my usual style but it’s absolutely beautiful- it’s the clear favourite and while it’s not my personal winner, I’d still absolutely love if Finland sent this. This is the one Finland. Yes, you are the kings of Rock, but now you can be the kings of Eurovision too. It's your choice.
Fr Finland should also try something else than rock. People say that "Finland can't do well without rock songs", but in fact Finland hasn't sent an actual GOOD song that wasn't rock. But now, here is an actually good song which is not rock so it may even do well in Eurovision!
Reality is finnish ballads are extremely underrated, they had solid ballads even in the last few years of UMK (Kelle mä Soitan and Sun Numero were wonderful songs, for example). They are a rock/metal country but they are not good just in rock/metal.

@@Scott30_ "No rules" will go nowhere in Eurovision... Too much camp songs or uptempos will annihilate one with the other and there are some better camp songs than "No rules" in other NF's. Every country is doing the mistake of favouring that kind of song just because they expect a Käärja effect. Finland will not do that mistake in my opinion, because they know searching another Käärja will doom their possibilities, exactly like it was for Cyprus in searching a new Foureira, for example.

The issue (regarding being succesful in ESC) is that there usually is more than one these type of songs so it really depends what others send (doesn't it always, haha) and can it stand out from other similar songs.

Agree, but it hasn't always been an advantage for us Finns in Eurovision, 40+ years with mostly (& undeservedly) bad results before Lordi ;)
@@florenna Well it's still a fairly recent trend for non-English language songs to be somewhat favored. Between 1992 and 2016 there were a total of 3 winning songs, which didn't feature English. Since 2017 then there have already been as many in just 6 competitions.

Other countries can really learn from UMK. They have a few selections, but each is very high quality music. Even their music videos are better than other countries.
