This should have been called the iWank 3000 because thats what this will be used for xD
do you all remember Job's philosophy about cabinets? Everyone has a cabinet, and pretty much everyone can make one. He said what was important was making sure the back panel of the cabinet was the highest quality and crafted with skill, even though no one cared or would ever see the back panel of the cabinet.
They should of made glasses like Tony stark wearing on avengers!
This would probably be on their 3rd or 4th gen. All i can see for this first gen Apple vision pro is it has similar form factors of the first Gen iPhone. Maybe apple would get to shrink and lesser the weight of it in 5 years.
Excellent essay.
What pushed me over the edge to buy it was my beloved mother-in-law, who has early Alzheimers. The ability to record “spatial video” (currently shared with the iPhone Pro Max) will hopefully provide not just a unique set of memories for her descendants, but maybe for her as well. I hope to record some of her own experiences, then play them back for her (perhaps with “guest mode” and her own set of lenses. Or, if it’s really worth it, her own, dedicated AVP). Being able to place her in a 3D world may provide a powerful means of reacher her later, as her memory worsens, or at least provide her with stimulation beyond what she’ll likely have access to otherwise. All of this may be futile, of course, and ultimately will be regardless. But it seems like it’s worth a try.
That’s a moving reason. I have aging relatives who I don’t see often. I’d like to use this for a similar reason. In the past, I was the family reunion videographer. So many now have gone on from those videos. It would be nice to have something like this.
@@TheLillianYoung
That sounds like a great use for it. You could create priceless records of family that could be passed down for many generations, even centuries. It’s a pretty awesome prospect, undertaken for the best of reasons.
I'm pretty sure spacial video is just a gimmick name for video filmed with two lenses to create a small 3d parallax effect? like you could watch at cinemas. My mum is early onset dementia too and getting worse, but don't see this being any different to seeing a normal video for her.
I have been shooting 360 photos and videos for my family over last 3 years, with a GoPro Hero Max and Quest 2 (now 3). Total cost is 1/3 of AppleVision Pro, which you cannot even use outdoors (Apple never told you that, right?)!
And personally I believe 360 images are way more immersive and like real than 3D images (can you imagine how 360 skiing videos feel like? It 100% recreates first person height and slope fears that 3D videos can never do. Or imagine 360 video of your family paddling in the middle of a beautiful lake? Or you riding a horse and want to relive that once more?)
I regret I didn’t have the chance to shoot 360 images for my passed away relatives, but I am content that I recorded every trip with my family for last three years. So if keeping your memories alive is what you want to do, you certainly should NOT wait for Apple Vision Pro. Buy a 360 camera now ($500 USD or so), and start recording your memories! You can even do it outside or in sporting actions!
Then you can buy a $500 Quest 3 for your family and let them relive those memories. Better, you can even let them relive OTHERS’ memories: there’s an app called “Wander” in which you can view 360 Google street view photos around the world (one of my friends bought Quest 2 just to let her 70+ parents to see the world during pandemic), AND many 360 photos uploaded by travellers (many smartphones can already take 360 photos through photo seaming). On RUclips you can find tens of thousands of 360 videos, many of them are high definition scenery videos (like Alps fly-by or climbers on cliff. You will feel really scared by height just watching them).
@@mmmmmmmmmmm10Try 360 photo and videos!
This is equivalent to when big block phones came out in the 80’s and car phones lol
Love your content and made a video talking about this last year on my PTGtv channel but I have to disagree with you. The Vision Pro, in my opinion, as it stands now for an average consumer it's more so for developers, engineers, consumer product showcasing, etc. To me this can be used by real estate agents to show full 4k walk throughs of property, this is for a commercial developer where he or she can give updates on development of property, this can be used by travel vloggers to create an immersive video experience for people to watch. This can be used by family members who have disabled members in the house and/or elderly who can't get out and experience things themselves so you can take them with you, if it supported wireless communications through a cell tower. I work in a data center, I could use this while working on server installs and troubleshooting connectivity issues. It has a wide range of use cases but it's not for a regular consumer, yet.
They could get virtual manuals and instructions that show exactly how to build or repair something using AR
It's not truly viable until you can walk down the street with it. Waiting for the less expensive "glasses" version.
If iphone stores are getting targeted by robbers, imagine yourself walking outside of your home with that device.
A few youtuber walked down the street with it
For a start it's got to be lighter and more compact.
Summary so you don’t have to sit through this video: he’s not buying it because he doesn’t want to pay the high price for a gen 1 product that doesn’t fully meet his fantasy of what an AR device should be based on some Gibson books he has read.
Thanks, I'm out going to check other relevant youtubers.
Well, I bought one and can tell you that the thing is great. It has some flaws and is expensive as you know but has a lot of amazing tech in there and does so many things. The 3D videos and photos that you take are amazing as well as watching 3D content like movies. The Alicia Keys demo and other short clips are astounding. Yes, the hand control is not perfect sometimes especially in low light and it can feel heavy after more than an hour of use for me. I get some glare with a very dark environment like Cinema mode. The spatial computing with windows floating anywhere of any size is so futuristic. If the windows are close enough to “touch” so can just swipe and press like an iPad or phone. Not to mention 4k in each eye make for such a high resolution experience. Plus, everything just syncs up to your Apple iCloud acct so everything is there right away with zero effort. Don’t waste your time looking at reviews unless they have bought and tried the device. Many have now so you can get a good cross section of reviews. PS - I have an Apple credit card so I was able to pay over 12 months with 0% APR so that takes some of the sting out of the price.
Totally agree with the first gen matter.
What he’s been yapping about would probably be on their 3rd or 4th gen. All i can see for this first gen Apple vision pro is it has similar form factors of the first Gen iPhone. Maybe apple would get to shrink and lesser the weight of it in 5 years.
Thank you for the summary, so I don’t have to watch his painfully misleading tech video that makes me think that he is giving me his opinions on it based on his experience.
THANKS. I hate boring nerds.
Jason are you reviewing the S24 and what are you hoping for the Iphone 16,if any. 👍
Hey Jason, nice to see you still covering tech stuff. Your channel is one of my favorites!
I tried to resist, but failed and ordered one. That being said, I develop software for the Apple ecosystem, so it will be used to try to develop stuff and not just for fun, so no regrets.
About the AirPods Max… man I really like mine - the only problem is the canopy mesh that loses tension with time/use and makes the frame uncomfortable.
that is awesome! what kind of app you plan to do for the vision pro, I have tons of ideias for AR since the concept in earlys 80´ but I am not a developer hahaha
People love to cast all their hopes and dreams on what they believe will be the next game-changing revolutionary device that will improve their daily life and guess what this is not it and never will be. As you said, AR and VR have been around for a while. There's a reason why it has not taken off because it hasn't been shown to add or improve ones daily life in a way that males life easier much like Vision Pro doesn't and won't if it ever does. Just accept it as the niche device that it is.
Apple has solved the delay and lens distortion, which makes virtual and reality seamlessly connected, but the weight brings people back to reality.
The killer app of this device is Safari and being able to access very large windows of it. Considering most apps and services can all be accessed in the cloud and through a web browser, native apps shouldn’t matter unless they aren’t supported through safari such as Photoshop. Then again that’s what you use the desktop mirroring window for.
As a photographer I can see this being used to record priceless moments in format of spatial viewing that creates a whole level of experience beyond 2D. I think this is why people don't mind the price because time is so precious and we want capture love ones and events as they were for generaions.
The iPhone 15 can now record spatial videos. I've actually been taking a lot of recordings in the 'spacial' format for when I pick up version 3 or 4 of AVP in a few years
In the words of Stranger Days (excellent movie) - memories fade - they are designed that way for a reason. I have little desire to see photos of dead family members, and very little to see video. 3D spatial capture is just plain creepy. And using the excuse that we are capturing it for posterity and generations to come, rather than our own egos (which would be more honest), is silly. No one in the "future" is going to watch a 3D video of you in a hundred years - they will not care.
@@tattoodude8946 the great thing about it is, you can decide to never use it and others can. What a world.
Meta quest 3 officially supports viewing spatial videos now supposedly.
Very very good point! I am waiting for the next stage of computing, 4 k for basically media consumption. Maybe version two or Three will go beyond media consumption. Buying first version means next year buying the next version. Makes sense to wait
I am like you my friend.
I’d like to be living in some variant of the futures that Gibson (without the oppressive corporate or government controls) or Peter F Hamilton envision.
I think the Vision Pro is the first real step in that direction, because it’s acrually a computer and not an entertainment toy.
With its CPU and GPU capabilities it can completely function as a general purpose computer. I’ve pre ordered (512Gb with a spare battery), I travel about 100k miles a year for business and personal travel. For my next trip it’s the Vision Pro and my iPhone. No iPad, no MBP/Air.
I’ll come back and tell you how close we might be.
Cheers
I think apps will develop and become available over time. Possibly weeks after its release just like Quest 3 and others. By then, getting the hardware immediately may be more challenging.
Comparing this to quest 3 is plain stupidity
What are you on about? The Quest 3 had thousands of apps and programs/games to run on day one of its release.
@@tattoodude8946 Apple bision pro is a new tech not a crappy vr it is ar with vr as well with an own os and way better quality than quest 3 have as well as features that allow you to connect your apple devices to share screen just stop this is nothing like a shit vr
@@muresanandrei7565Clueless 🙄
Great video, loved this content. I'm with you for the most part. I think you represent the normal folks out there, the masses and you are 100% correct, the headset isn't for mass appeal, they are only making 80K on release and opening up a bunch of pancake (flat) application. This is very much the DK1 of the AR world. Having said that, as far as content consumption goes, my Quest 3 is incredible, with my own Plex server I can play entire 2D/3D movies, audio and shows on my Quest Pro anywhere in the world, I have notifications coming in from my mobile, WhatApp, Facebook etc without looking at my phone when playing games, I can then chose to ignore or pick these up. I can interact with friend and family playing games who live 1000s of miles away. I think a lot of VR/AR will change once codac avatars comes online and you can speak to folks as if they were sitting right next to you. This technology is already so powerful even now but it requires communities to use this for widespread appeal and that's not going to happen with the device in this form factor.
You’re giving off the same vibe as “iPad is just a bigger iPhone”, now look where it is.
I agree with you Jason up to a point. It’s definitely for those with deep pockets and is too bulky and limited in terms of battery life and mobility etc. as an AR/VR device it does look next level and spatial computing is baked into it. I think Brian Tong said you can look at the URL bar and dictate directly to it therefore not depending on the virtual or physical keyboard? Nevertheless, I’m the biggest Apple fan boy but it’s too rich for me as well!
I have the same vision for VR/AR/XR. I love Neuromancer and Snow Crash. After owning Quest 2, Quest Pro, and now Varjo Aero, I am buying into the idea of that future. I'm still inspired when I put on my headset and find myself in a virtual world, flying jets, racing cars, it's all amazing. I hope i live long enough to see the future expansion of this technology.
Great video. This is what I have been thinking, exactly the reasons why I didn't order one too.
In my case, I was waiting to see Vision Pro could be useful for work, like as “second” monitor. I have an XDR Pro Display and now I think the best is to get second XDR.
The weight, the lack of integration and also the low color accuracy (92%) makes it a bad XDR replacement. Definitely is more like a entertainment media device.
I bought. I have immediate productivity issues that it solves for me.
We need people to start using it now to help develop the landscape for spatial computing. After a few years of development , you’ll start to notice that using a Vision Pro will be different than using a stationary screen.
I preordered one. I love the concept. I looking forward to use it at work and enjoy it at home.
I ordered a 512 Gb version which would have arrived on Feb 2, but after thinking about it I decided that for the price it wasn’t worth it. So I cancelled. I guess I will wait until it matures a bit or gen 2 comes out.
In the meantime, get the quest 3 for 7x less. But you still have 70% of all features
I agree. The thought of owning one is tempting cause I love new technology but realistically it will be redundant to all other technologies we already have: TV and iPad. I believe it has an edge over all those vr headset which end up collecting dust, due to its improved display, which might allow it to take a place in between your TV and an iPad (or whatever you use for mobile media consumption). But for 4k $ I could never justify it especially considering you can basically just use it for unproductive things. Watching stuff in this thing will be cool at first but it will wear of quickly (like with every other headset) and you'll never use it because its just uncomfortable and the quality is just cannot come close to your 13 inch OLED iPad or 8k QLED TV. For now, I see it as a pretty expensive toy and collectors item.
People thought other devices would be redundant. Honestly I’m excited and it won’t be there at launch but maybe a few months in after apps are made.
It’s not just about media but 3d movies that I am excited for. 3d movies in VR are completely different. Plus having a 120 inch oled tv for regular tv (a $100,000 savings). Then when there is a good selection of games to play it will be great. Hope someone finds a way to play Steam games. I do think it could have been cheaper and have things like the outer screen removed for weight and especially power usage! So it’s not perfect but I don’t see a second gen with any large differences for 2 years or more and I’d rather join now.
I’d love to drive in it with a heads up display and navigation markers on the road. Could even be fun and make other cars look like hot wheels and the road like a track!
Could get on a plane and pretend you are flying on a nimbus cloud.
@@philiplubduck6107That won't be in v1. Likely, they will make improvements & fixes for v2 & v1 will be outdated, less compatible.
Kinda like Quest 1. Q2 was much better than Q1 & Q3 is already that much better than Q2.
There's probably a reason lower level management and engineers at Apple felt it was too early to release the product. They were famously overruled by upper management, notably Tim Cook, who's betting his legacy on this product category. As such it is probably more a development kit than a consumer product, and as with the watch, it will probably be referred to as version zero when more mature versions emerge.
I do agree with it being "too early" - but in terms of software, and not hardware. Original Apple Watch was way underpowered hardware (single core) and software was awful (every button tap in a third party app had to relay back and forth to be processed on the phone.) Apple Vision Pro hardware is way more capable than what we are seeing today, but the software is still being built out. Everything on visionOS right now is expanded iPad apps, mainly taking advantage of unlimited windows, and not yet taking advantage of being AR.
That said, the next Vision Pro will likely pack an M4 (as I suspect it will be 2-3 years out) and have much more powerful GPU capabilities, for much more realistic rendering.
Imagine spending 4k on a headset with no games, but just maps, notes, Disney+ and a web browser 😂. Sticking to the metaquest 3!
And no Netflix and RUclips
I'm also disappointed that they're not selling that USB-C adapter dongle (that we saw in a demo). There are many professional uses where you need to plug in USB. For example music production, where Bluetooth is far from latency-free. You need to plug in an audio interface, and that requires USB.
It's a good point. It's supposed to be a wireless device, but that's likely won't work well with all applications.
Summary of the 10 min video: Vision Pro is not the CyberSpace for Neuromancer fans
I'll admit the Media Part for Airplane is only reason I'm interested the 2 hr battery would not make through a long flight. The movie theater in sky mode with spacial audio is neat. Though this is only use case that is interesting to me specifically Airplane in air.
I always go on RUclips to listen to people talk about things they know absolutely nothing about.
I initially decided not to buy, but the pull has been strong and I still have one saved in my cart. Keep looking at it but like you, I don’t think it does anything really at this point that I’d use it for. Hate to spend $4k plus on a paper weight. Still think my Quest 3 does way more of what I want from a headset and does it really well.
$3000 more than the Quest 3.
Save the money towards the 2.0 version of the Apple. By then _maybe_ it will be improved & maybe have enough applications.
My 3080ti msi laptop and my quest 2 is around the price of a Vision Pro here in Canadian dollars
Seen them for sale on eBay UK for 6K
Ok..much like the boom in the VCR ..yes, I’m that old …it took having killer programming to make it make sense to the average person to consider purchasing…it’s gotta be more than a niche .
Basically it’s like an iPhone you strap to your face.
I also LOVE that trilogy of William Gibson cyberpunk!
you could buy a MacBook pro + 50 inch OLED TV and a Nintendo switch and still have money
I hear you. We’ll find out on Friday. I bought mine, picking up Friday at 6pm at my local Apple Store. Can’t wait!
I did put in an order and I’m not totally sure I’ll be keeping it if I don’t feel compelled enough. This is a first gen product, so I can understand the anxiety of something newer from Apple coming out later, but who knows when that will be? For all we know, AirPods Max never got an update, after all these years. I might as well live the present and enjoy it now!
Don’t return it; cancel the order before it arrives/pickup in store. You have the option of trying a demo at a store.
I just want Apple to allow me to add my state drivers license to the wallet
It’s just a matter of time until Netflix and the 2 other apps well be added, plus you can see them on a webpage anyway lol. I think some people just can’t afford it and so they complain about it 💁. I can just imagine all the new content going to made specifically for spatial computing as the years go by, it’s going to make some people very rich and will completely change some industries going forward, people doing video and photography work, art, sports, school and all types of entertainment, it will start slow at first, just like most things.
I don’t think some people are looking at the big picture and it’s really not a lot of money to buy the Apple Vision Pro, most people are just very irresponsible with money and life, like buying cars and houses they can’t afford, or having kids they can’t afford, eating out instead of preparing their own meals, spending money and not saving, taking vacations.
Can’t wait for Blender on Vision OS where you view the 3D viewport as if it’s all around you and you can zoom and pan and sculpt with your hands. Obviously with levels of emersion because it could get nauseating after a while. Waiting for that on the Vision (not pro) for €1900 when it’s available in Europe 😁
They didn’t solve major vr issues like FOV… There’s no killer app. It’s safari and iPhoto and everything we’re used to in a tight uncomfortable workspace. This is awesome for movies on an airplane
Yes , besides very very expensive screens and cameras, there are nothing major advancement. I heard there are a lot of color abbreviations at the edges too.
You gotta realize this is their first launch of the this product. It’s going to grow. Plus when it comes to quality, no one does it like Apple.
Of course I realize that. And I said as much. But that doesn’t mean I can’t take issue with the slim offerings it’s offering at launch.
Part of what you describe in your wish list of what you would like to see in a headset already exists in the worlds of VRChat; especially for those plugging their headsets into a PC for the PCVR experience. For those using Full Body Tracking systems (FBT) in VRChat, the line between Reality and their favorite Virtual worlds has become blurred to the point that some people even sleep and eat in VR. Their virtual lives, in many different avatar forms become far more satisfying than anything they can experience anywhere. It's a tough initial learning curve to get started in VRChat, but once you learn the basics, there are something over 40,000 worlds or maps to explore, and more communities of like-minded people to spend time with than you'd ever believe without trying them. And, you can also take on any form, gender, race or appearance while you are doing so. Talk about living your dreams... This is where it all happens!
They sound like losers
i hate the eyesight feature, its such a waster of money
It just needs some good games and vr experiences that blows everyone away. This is more a developer version. Hopefully future versions will have that and cost will be lower.
deadly problem of vision pro is watching alone
Imagine not buying an Apple Vision Pro.
Nothing would ever persuade me to buy one of these monstrosities.
I 100% agree with you, and I have my doubts about all Reality devices because of people's nature and the need to be connected to their surroundings. So far, it is looks to be an entertainment device like Playstation or another consul. I don't think it will be available for the next two to three years in my country. Anyway, soon after the launch, we will see many used devices for sale because of the disappointment of people to use this device.
Apple’s Vision Pro seems to me to be a delayed response from Apple to enter the Web 3.0 game. They probably targeted the high-end market so that they could position themselves alongside companies that may have already adopted environments like the Metaverse or Omniverse. On the consumer side, they used marketing jargon to sell this “Spatial” experience, which really is just stereoscopic photos and videos that we've already had since the Nintendo 3DS.
Yea if it could run or emulate Mac OS apps it would really replace your Mac and be super useful. It absolutely has the power to do this. But for some reason they want you to have your Mac right there in front of you. Imagine taking a plane and having to take your Vision Pro AND your Macbook in your bag, to get your work done. Uselessly heavy and complicated setup. AND you probably have to open up your Macbook screen and set it down somewhere, which is not practical when traveling.
I need it to be worn like glasses 🤓 without the head strap, wireless embedded battery and shrink it slightly
That’s a RUclips and Netflix problem.
I honestly feel a lot of people are bashing it because they can’t afford to try it themselves. If this thing was the price of its “competitors” you wouldn’t see as many people online in comment sections with negative opinions. Which allows me to believe it’s not about what the device can or can’t do right now it’s only about the price. Nobody is complaining about the price of Ferraris when they do the same thing other cars can do. You pay for premium and revolutionary experiences… and that’s why you buy a Vision Pro. *mic drop*
I agree. 😂😂😂
A glorified beta testing headset will cost you $3500.
The logical person in 2024... I'll wait it out and let things develop nicely and buy in later down the road
The person that spent $3500: "MiC DrOp"
6 months later: More apps developed and 40% off now
*Mic Drop*
@@Sprint4serbia if that’s the case then you should treat all the tech you buy the same way. Thats like saying “I’m not going to buy the next iPhone because the next one will be better.” Every time a piece of tech comes out it’s currently the best and the worse that it will ever be.
Exposing Apple Vision Pro: I can not afford it
Sensible stuff as per from you 👏🏻
Have you worn one? I didn't hear you say in the review.... those who have are shocked at how immersive it is... if not you missed out on the incredible resolution and spatial sound.
Just stick with your Chromebook....LOLOL
1:38 I don't understand why people that haven't used it at all keep saying "it's not going to be good" and the people that actually have used it love it...
5:00 This is where you wt... do you expect a real life keyboard on your table to popup out of nowhere or the vision pro version of swiping on your mobile phone keyboard lol or better yet that the vision pro can read your mind and type for you.... you have to be realistic.
6:25 When did they say this was going to free you from being tether to your devices. The vision pro it's a VR/AR device it's made to enhance what we already have and bring it to a level no other company has taken it to...
clearly the device is not for you because you thought this was star trek lol bro you won't see technology like the one you are expecting for atleast 25 years...
You either mistakenly or intentionally ignored about everything I said in order to argue with me. I never said it’s not going to be good. I said it’s not gonna be what it can, will, or should be, particularly for the price.
The rest of your problems come from your misunderstanding my speculation of what is possible. You don’t seem very good at thinking critically.
Immediately subscribed when you mentioned Gibson 😁
Come in to the store and try it. You’ll love it.
Apps that u must pay a monthly or yearly fee for
Hey mate,
You are right. The potential for Vision Pro is amazing. However, if its features are limited to entertainment at the minute, nope.
It was the same with the first watch. Everyone was hassling me to get one. Oh, it’s fantastic. A phone on your wrist. But, you had to be within a curtin distance of the phone.
No thanks. I held out for the Watch 3. A true phone extension.
These days, I wouldn’t be without one. Rocking the Ultra. And will get the Ultra 2 in June. I love the idea of Vision Pro. I see it as a replacement for the iPad. But, in two or three years.
Good comparison with the watch. Even with the og iPad.
I’m waiting as well. I feel the same that this will look like a gen 1 device real quick! I saw the same with the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. I don’t want to spend 4k and it looks like a dinosaur in a year. It has the power though. It just need the software and slim down a bit both in weight and price.
Agree 100%. My vision for Vision Pro is for productivity, and as you said, to untether from my desk and multiple monitors. When I see videos proving folks can do this with Vision Pro I'll buy it.
I would love an AR tool for my productive too, for me some CAD and CFD AR software intregated with real time Lidar scan would be perfect
Yeah, I really wish I NEEDED the Vision Pro!
This is what a lot of people said in 2010 just before we got the original iPad. Fast forward 14 years later, iPad is now the # 1 used tablet in the world. “People don’t know what they want, until you give it to them.” - Steve Jobs
#1 selling tablet is not the dunk you think it is.
I would like to write you that you are wrong, but I have the same feeling. For me Visoin Pro is the same thing as Apple Watch Pro. It is a wonderful device for a very narrow range of activities and if you aren’t dedicating much time to these activities the product is just a really expensive gimmick for you. I am looking forward for the gen 2 or 3 though. Also, I hope someday to see your comparison the first version of Vision Pro with the one you will be using on a daily basis.
It is funny considering it is probably one of the most powerful stand alone headsets its basically competing more with the ultra light ar glasses that are becoming more popular
He is basically saying his money is not enough folks.
If only RUclipsrs designed and built the tech for us. Life would be perfect. "I wanted a new type of computing experience, not just a consumption device" then moans that RUclips and Netflix don't have a native app, even though you can watch them in the browser.
I'm not super excited about it right now...but I am pretty excited about it in the future.
I'm waiting for more uses that interest me like gaming.
I think it'll get there, but it'll take a while.
I can totally see myself killing myself financially for this thing at sometime in the future, but it's not there for me yet.
I feel like you didn’t do your research because what you’re asking for is what they’re advertising.
Ummm, no it's not.
Great review.🎉
You made a great move…It’s a great concept, but the device you want would cost 10,000 bucks. That’s why I don’t think it will ever become a computer replacement if you will. Some time in the future perhaps on day we will be able to have a screen appear at arms reach almost like a hologram, but I for one don’t see a world where everyone runs around with a headset on. Perhaps we will all cary wireless transmitters that will connect with large displays located every place we go. Again we wound run around with a headset on. Gen 2 of Vision Pro will be a better version of something people don’t want and that’s a headset. IMO
I really love your vision for what this could be: I mean wasn't this the point of putting all Macs on mobile architecture? Why does MacOS vs iOS still exist? They are locking themselves out of their own walled garden, or rather putting an extremely awkward border-wall in their own ecosystem.
My own bias on this is rather in the other direction. I am afraid that ultimately they WILL succeed. If it is inevitable, then so be it, but my word, we already have people who find their phone so compelling they cant put it down while driving, and we're already radically incapable of dealing with enforcement of basic laws for safety around this. Furthermore, what we ultimately will be doing is placing a multibillion-dollar corporate environment in between us and our physical environment, and to this end I think the evidence is rather starkly against your claim around 9:00 about how this will democratize things (Cambridge Analytica likely throwing the vote for Brexit, possibly seating Trump, etc). Humans are pretty vulnerable to a host of well understood cognitive biases and errors, even really bright people can be manipulated and tricked, and so what we're doing here is vastly increasing the surface area for manipulation via extremely sophisticated threat actors to manipulate people, either individually, or en masse. Dont get me wrong. Theres a possibility we could at the 11th hour teach everyone how to be deeply skeptical of marketing, engagement metrics, or perhaps interfacing some kind of real time fact checking/AI detection etc... but I just see so many more roads which are bleak.
Thanks for sharing this piece man. So glad you're true to yourself and honest. Fuck any critics who give you shit you didn't buy it. It's not like you're MKBHD/whatever he goes by now or Linus Tech Tips where they throw free models at you etc. And even if you were, this standard that we should never be allowed to change our minds is ridiculous.
Geez man, why are you getting so emotional. It’s a $3,500 toy and novelty. Most people are buying it because it’s fun and different. In 3-4 years these will be priced like an iPhone $600-1500. We’re not talking about global famine, taxes, and crime.
Exactly correct, agree. Also in the house in mask you already off family contacts....this is more for fun (ok, Business, research) but still not watching family movies, own clips, photos, etc... And, AND Quest 3 such a nice viewing experience now, included VR RUclips, needs to see side by side this two masks comparison.
You had me when you said no Photoshop, which mean no any other work type software. So now, I totally agree with you, it is just an entertainment and I'm sure ad consumption toy. I was looking forward to using it for work, not just play.
At some point in time, there will be version which is a mac, an iphone, an iwatch on your face😂 - cheaper and smaller! Thats the one we would all want for Christmas! 😉
Yeah, but that’s not this. $4k is a lot to spend now.
I totally agree with you that it’s probably not there yet. But I ordered one anyway, just so I can try it for myself. Even if I schedule an appointment at Apple to explore it, it’s would be very controlled and not in my home to see the experience for myself.
That being said, I will likely return it. I have a 4K projector with a nice sized screen in my media room, which allows me to watch movies with my family at near theater experience. This would have to really blow me away to keep it.
It’s more geared to productivity, and developers. For instance, I have a clothing line, I can sit in a conference room… with my marketing team, manufacture, and design team. I can view 3D renders of the product, have browsers open, take notes on a board…..
All at the same time. With 1 singular device
I’m Tony freaking Stark
It’s all about what you do with it..sounds better than sitting in front of 2-3 small monitors, at a desk.
@@KJ-ql4nm - I can see that use case making sense. But I’m not sure that this will be able to make that a reality in the first generation. It can only support one window when mirroring a Mac. I can see the potential for productivity in the future, but in Apple’s latest video, they really went away from productivity and focused on content consumption.
@@jeromescott2113 I use a Mac. I’m not sure what the use of screen mirroring a Mac when it’s using the same iOS. Do you know if you can open multiple windows for safari?
@@KJ-ql4nmyes you can run multiple Safari window. Mirroring a Mac would give you a portable, infinitely resizable display to work with; you can only have one Mac Virtual Display open (alongside multiple visionOS apps) but obviously you can still multitask multiple windows within the Mac if that makes sense.
Don’t return it; cancel the order before it arrives/pickup in store. You have the option of trying a demo at a store.
Reviewers always compare the horizontal FOV between headsets, however the FOV of the Vision Pro is only 90-95 degrees, compared to the Quest 3 at 105-110. Apparently the the edges of the Vision Pro display have distortions that reduce the Effective FOV even further. $3500+?
I think there are so many issues with this thing on so many levels and I'm not coming from a "this is dystopian" angle. I just think the whole experience of using this thing for any prolonged time is gonna be extremely tiring. Starting from your eyes constantly being a millimeters away from a bright oled screen.
Also the whole blending the real world into this thing. I highly doubt that there is 0 latency between the camera and that the picture you see not to mention that even the best cameras today are ever so slightly grainy and colors are off you have flaring, lens distoration, ... Basically I don't think anyone would want to walk around with this thing in a tight apartment let alone ride a bike or take a run just because of input delay and the picture being slightly off.
Furthermore the whole controls without any physical feedback at all is gonna be horrendous. People already hate using touchscreens in anything besides phones and tablets and there at the very least you don't have to worry about Z-depth and you are touching glass - not air. I remember 10 years ago using an Xbox with Kinect. The tracking already was solid but no where near precise enough to do things like edit a spreadsheet or type. And even if, it gets tiring so fast. Or anyone can try this - take a laser pointer and try to hit things on your screen. Its gets annoying really fast. Or follow your cursor on the screen with your eyes so its always centered. I just can't see anyone activly using this thing for more than 20 minutes.
The only usecases I can see is what already existing VR solutions are already capable of doing. And sure I think Apple will have better and more polished Software. But thats it (for now).
Good Comments! Vision Pro is far too clumsy for productivity work
You are spot on with your opinion on the current Vision Pro. I am also concerned with the health issue statement Apple put out it’s a long list that I think will get longer as it starts to get used.
If I had be money I’d buy it 😂😂
As an owner of VR headsets since the Oculus Dev Kit 1, I can already tell there’s going to be a lot of people questioning their $3500 purchase after it starts collecting dust after a couple of months.
We’re going in the right direction but we’re still not there yet in terms of practicality for regular use.
I had the Rift, Rift S and the OG PSVR. There’s a reason I don’t have a Quest 3 or PS VR 2.
@@PAINFULLYHONESTTECH Yeah I stopped at the Valve Index. I was so excited to get it too but it just sits as a decoration on my desk.
I’m not ruining my hair style to put that contraption on my head.
You’re not even the target audience then! Why are you even commenting on this video?!?
Is there some law preventing a person from protecting their hair from Apple's latest test project?
why do you eat food? " im not gonna make my mouth messy and let this food ruin my teeth/mouth area"
smh you clean up after eating right...why is it any different here? you rearrange your hair after having your time with it.
@@DanielGallo84Not exactly the sweetest set of people. Perhaps you all worship at the tomb of the great God Steve. Please ignore that my name is Steve. Nobody gonna worship at my tomb.
@@steveschlackman4503 is there some law to protect your hair from a hat or any other headset you can put on? If you don’t want it messing up your hair, don’t f’ing buy it!
My 2 cents …. “Glasses” type solution 100% there’s a future for “productivity” and screen replacement usage. Fully “enclosed” headset? Unless it can play in the SteamVR and maybe PCVR worlds then I’m afraid it’s gonna be the proverbial square peg getting bashed into the round hole 😮
The worst part is it is an entertainment missing the alot of the entertainment part
You made the right choice... launch weak, sector weak , Apple has a lot to prove software wise before this takes off. Currently, for the price point not worth the early adopter fee based on software support alone.
I pre ordered it because I love to try new technology. People saying this product will flop aren’t educated. The Vision Pro isn’t designed for gaming, I don’t care. I want to see what I can do with this since it fits me. I’m going to be using this quite often. Cope and seethe hard if you can’t respect my opinion
Enjoy it! I got mine too. I’ve been watching Apple for 20 years and I’ve seen the same comments for every new product. “It’s too expensive, it’s too nerdy, it looks weird, nobody asked for this, it’s a gimmick…”
Then 4 years later everyone finally understands it, millions of people own it, the competitor copy it, the haters insist Apple’s version wasn’t ever special because “Jukebox and Blackberry and Fitbit were first”, then everyone targets their hate and confusion at the next product. 😂
iMac = fruity, unprofessional, no floppy, why does a desktop need a handle
iPod/iTunes= expensive and over engineered, nobody will buy digital music
iPhone = 3x the price of BlackBerry, no keyboard, 3G, video. Only AT&T. Apple makes computers, what do they know about phones?
iPad = just a giant iPhone, no optimized apps. Sounds like feminine hygiene.
MacBook Air = nobody asked for such a skinny computer, should’ve made it bigger and more performant. Netbooks and rotating convertibles are the future!
Apple Watch = only nerds wear smartwatches. Expensive. It’s too late, Fitbit beat them to the market.
AirPods = Only 4 hour battery life, you look stupid with these white things hanging out your ears.
Blah blah blah.
Excellent and common sense comment .Thank you
Thanks for watching!
This is no more than quest 3 but with super expensive screen , camera and with apple eco system. For 7x more than quest 3 , I expect the FOV to be at least 160 and no color abbreviations at the edge of the screen
I have like 5 headsets, all of them support some kind of AR desktop, but I never ever used them as virtual desktop, I prefer my 3 OLED monitors. Unless Vision Pro somehow supports pcvr, I can’t see it become successful in near future, there just ain’t a market for it.
Vision Pro will be the future but it's a first gen Apple product. its going to have its problems
