Every time I say "in the first place" take a shot. I'm currently working on the next video in this series as well as some other content. I'm now fully staying away from drama and I'll be focusing on more content like this. Hope you'll be looking forward to it!
Thank you for someone who finally talks about how love live isn’t just about the idols. It’s truly an amazing show that’s underrated because of the idol part.
It seems so simple, yet people still struggle to differentiate between the two out of their own ignorance or bias towards idols. Not the biggest love live fan myself, but It's pathetic to see people write it off as "just another idol/cute girl show" when there is so much more depth and self-sacrifice that comes from them doing it solely on their own as independent artists.
CummingNico glad to see we have another true intellectual of the Love Live variety! I hope you’re looking forward to the 20+ videos I have on the topic lmao
I'm probably not the best person to give criticism cause it's still so fresh and I still get chills whenever any scene from the shows pop up anywhere but the video was amazing. Your breakdown of what distinguishes a school idol from a normal one was effective (and much needed considering how much I've heard "Oh it's just like all the other idol stuff like Idolm@ster" already). The comparisons to sports clubs really hits it home when you take a moment to consider how many people wanna go to Alabama just cause of their football team or the like. It really puts what they were trying to accomplish into perspective. And then cementing how that means they couldn't continue, and by accepting that definition of a school idol, Muse saved the whole system gives so much weight and sense to their decision. I could probs come up with real criticism another day but I'm in the honeymoon phase right now.
School idols are what pushed me to do theatre in my high school career and they made me realize that being an idol doesn't have a specific type of person. Anyone can shine if they put the effort in.
This video is still great to this day, as you covered something that really is important in the series, showing what's special and meaningful about Love Live. I'll be checking this analytical series, because it seems you absolutely know how to handle these topics.
Though I adore the Love Live reviews by the NSCL and Captain Tippers I think the way you summarized the show encapsulates why I love the story to this show so much and why it has caught the hearts of many despite it getting as much flak by being 'just another idol show'. I once had an argument with a friend about im@s vs LL, he argued with me that being at a professional level made them better, but what I said and what you said is that because the School idol's time is more limited is what makes their time more precious. Honest to god talking about the story with other LL fans the aspect of them being 'School' idols is not discussed much if at all. Most people brush it off as 'well its anime, and all anime is in high school so that's why it has that stupid generic title', but Muse solidified why this is exactly why its all so important to cherish and is further emphasized by Aqours in its 2nd season with the Ruby/Leah episode. In other news I love this complete take of the spirit of Love Live that you have done here and I hope Over the Rainbow makes me cry just as much as the first movie did.
As much as animes associated with you I'm actually surprised that you haven't done a lot more videos about it. I am going to miss your drama oriented videos because they were in depth and you did keep them interesting. But if you're going to analyze anime I'm all for it.
Mr Radiance if I ever do anything “drama-related” it’ll be like my Chronexia or Objectivity videos that use the topic to discuss broader topics. I’m staying away from drama to do what I wanted to do. I’m glad you stuck around tho
WatTheWut well honestly I just enjoy it your analytical abilty so either way even if you do stay away from doing drama related videos the meat of what makes a content interesting still there.
I love those videos of yours. Gotta admit, when I watched the show I was touched, but I think I did not understand quite fully to what extent the philosophy of those girls was great. It's literally an anime that shouts its love for youth and passion, and is something that we deeply lack in europe I believe. But it's your videos that allow me to grasp that meaning so really thank you :) I wish one day my videos can share as much passion as yours ! -Nikko
Why did I not watch this sooner? Why did I not know who you were until just now? Fuck dude. I've never seen someone go into Love Live like this on this platform before. I know there are some Love Live fans out there on YT, but they do things with SiF or whatnot, and while I still play and love SiF, Love Live has always meant more to me. I've been following the project since a tiny bit before the first season of SiP aired, and Love Live has been such a major part of my life for years now. It is so refreshing to see a voice out here that isn't trashing on something I hold near and dear to my heart. Your AX 2019 video is the first thing I've ever seen from you, and to be honest I only watched it because of my friends and I were a couple rows in front of you during the Hibike movie, and a friend saw it and showed me the video, haha. But now I'm so invested to see what else you had to say about this series over this last year.
This series helped me get past the roughest times in my life, thank you for your analysis videos. You’ve put my thoughts into words, definitely another sub.
Very late to this video, but this brought me to tears, it put to words a lot of the things I’ve thought about love live. Of course even if it’s simple and cheery it does have that sense of like, idk importance and time and it’s comforting! Thank you :)
I can't remember why I subscribed to you, but I'm glad I did. I've been watching a little bit of your old Love Live videos (including this one), and I'm pretty much sold on at least giving the series a try. The only thing holding me back is the fact that School Idol Project's first season is nowhere to be found except for digitally online. Even the NIS America website wasn't selling the first season. It's hard to get into something if you can't even start it.
@@WatTheWut As of right now I don't see it on Funimation, just the second season. Everywhere I look it up online says they have it as well. I might just have to resort to buying the season on Google. Thanks for responding, too. Definitely wasn't expecting it, and especially not so soon. :)
angelo marino the issue with that is that in order to discuss what makes the show so great, you have to directly talk about what happens in the show. I’ve had people watch this video who haven’t seen LL and are now interested in it, so it’s really up to her how much spoilers she can handle. Really, the only thing I spoil is that u’s won LL and that they decided to break up after
angelo marino I prefer them too lmao. This is the content I’ve been wanting to make since I’ve started, and I’ve loved the reception to it. I’m really glad you liked it
Nice video. I feel like a lot of the aspects you brought up are themes in 3 of the 4 LL series. Niji HS is missing a lot of these things that make me love LL. For me it’s original 10/10 masterpiece, sunshine and superstar 9/10, niji 5/10.
If you think about it idols and school idols are like the cast from one of my favorite pieces of animation of all time: 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン. It's why I liked Idolm@ster a lot. Thanks WatTheWut for showing me the light!
Can we *P L E A S E* Just make school idols the norm now? I wanna make a school idol group when i get into high school even though it would be almost impossible. My dad was in a band, so at least i have a composer :0 i can draw and wanna get into cosplay so i could do costumes
One of the recent story chapters of love live all stars has the player character claim that a school idol can be anyone who enjoys what a school idol does, regardless of if they’re singing and dancing Meaning you and I are school idols too
I like love live and link live love live streaming app/card game. I watch the talk shows often and the Love Lives are really cool but I couldn’t really understand the anime I watched a few episodes and didn’t like it as much and also their voices sound unsettling to me because it’s similar to the seiyuu but they never break character.
1. Idol stuffs are done as club activities. It is much similar to light music club, swimming club, etc. 2. Since it's a club, it needed to be formed by a due process. u's manga for my reference. 3. Most of the time there are competitions for these type of clubs, even on national scale. It is even mentioned on the llss movie and the og ll. 4. In real life, school idols are infeasible as it takes too much resources (stage/stage design, costumes, original music), and they don't get income for this as it's a club activity after all. Unless of course most of the time they do covers.
1. Yes but the school idol system presented by the series is not realistic and can only exist within the series. 2. Yes...that’s...what they did...in the series. 3. Yes. I addressed that with Haikyuu. 4. Yes...that was the point of this video. That the school idol system as presented in this series is entirely different from that of real idols and only exists within the series for the sake of the story its trying to tell ???

So let me get this straight, school idols thrive because of their normalcy right? Did you just unintentionally come up with a good defense for the same face syndrome that shows up in anime and cartoons sometimes?
Death Alchemist whole the same face syndrome is actually kind of false when you actually look at the character designs of the characters (eye shape, body type, etc) the same face is actually a pretty good representation of a school idol’s appeal being normalcy

The Anime that I find the most close to Love Live is BanG Dream
Not surprising both of them are 2 of my favorite series
Fantastic work! Wonderful analysis. It's too bad that many people are prejudiced against any show with cute girls on the cover.
