I became “choiceful” years ago when I saw how spending- both gov and personal- was a freight train flying out of control. No one was saving, gov hand outs, nothing is free, ever. so my spending became purposeful, no frills.
And about work, I never followed the dream of what do I want to be when I grow up?..instead I followed the money and positioned myself to get jobs that gave me a paycheck. Oh yeah, the magical paycheck. They actually work. In fact I’ll call them amazing, I’ve loved every single one of them I’ve made over my 55+ yrs of working, and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
I was at my local Taco Bell in Cottage Grove, OR and heard the manager and assistant manager talking about the hours for the employees. No more overtime. You have to order at a kiosk. No ordering at the counter. I like to watch the people flip out about this policy and storm out the door. The workers will come out from behind the counter and show the folks how to use the kiosk.
I refuse to use them.

But I am stocked up, we have a generator, are ready for worst. I need a new roof, can’t fix it..

Built in entertainment....in 2007 we had 8 living in our little house. Two were small children. Then our dog gave us puppies and we kept them all. It was wonderful...I loved it. Now they're all gone. The last of the puppies died last year in my arms. Have 2 shelter dogs...the ones nobody wants...a hunting dog and an old shepherd.

I have excellent employees, but my costs keep rising, and I can't just raise my rates to my Elderly residents who can't afford it. We retired to Belize in 2019 when we couldn’t get hired because of our age, both professional craftsmen. We’re comfortably living only on our SS here. Here in Australia, say in a modest area in Queensland, it cost Australian $7000 per year for insurance, council rates, thats discounted, solar electricity, internet, but more if not pension discounts. Thats just to stay in your own home without any major repairs. Best to you Dan.

Yeah Dan, I'm being real "choiceful." LOL. I'm a disabled woman raising 5 grandkids alone. We don't get foodstamps, we have a fair income. Spend around $1,000 per month on necessities. I'm in Missouri. Just went to local butcher shop, lady there told me that meat was getting ready to raise in price again. It's hitting low income and elderly hard, and others feeling the pinch. Things are near or are double in price in most cases. We've changed our eating habits in many ways, trying to regroup and make up for it. "Choiceful?" Yeah. Real choice full.

The fact is that in our economy, it has been normal for corporations to decide what folks buy rather than accommodate organic consumer choice for decades. So, in this time and place, corporations become alarmed when consumers start making independent choices. rather than buying what they are manipulated into buying.

I've invested in my own future, Dan. As much as I could, while still being reasonable about it, I converted as much of my worthless fiat money into tangible goods. I'm also in a very enviable position to be able to pay all of my utility bills forward, including my house taxes, so that if and when we do go into the global economic depression there is less of a chance of me losing the house. I could not handle being homeless at my age. That would be the end of me.
