- A military parade to mark Victory Day is being held at Moscow's Red Square to mark 80 years since the end of World War II. Chinese President Xi Jinping travelled to Russia earlier in the week to attend the celebrations and to meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for talks aimed at bolstering what the nations describe as a “no limits” partnership.

Well, it's not even taught here, it's all about the Allies who won the war. Many of my friends here and in the US are under the impression that the Soviets "helped us" to win the war. In reality, at least in Europe, it was the other way round...

even though i am not russian, i felt a great sense of pride watching this parade and especially hearing the beautiful anthem.
the entire week, my country's mass media kept mocking this commemoration (along with mocking the three european leaders who dared to show up) and posting nonsense about how it might be attacked, but i didn't care, i was gonna watch it anyways.
and, wow, what a beautiful, triumphant, cathartic parade. on such a peaceful, calm, sunny day (interesting, isn't it? not a single foreign bomb or weapon was heard despite certain threats that were made days earlier).
i got chills at one point. 80 years have passed since the liberation from fascism and the end of ww2 in europe, and the echoes of that are still felt today.
we must always remember our past, so we can positively influence our future.
Unfortunately there are very few there like you. Majority of European countries would never forgive Russia for that defeat and liberation from fascism as marshall Zhukov said.
