Vesper's debut is worth paying attention to if you have interest in Vtubing, particularly if you want to get your audience to like you pretty much out the gate. Ame praised Cover for their talent recruitment when the boys debuted, and she's so right. If I remember right, she tweeted this while Vesper was debuting in particular. He was the HoloStar I was the least bit interested in and had the least expectation in liking, just based off what little we saw from his Twitter and his lore/design.
What I expected from Vesper was a lore-heavy try-hard. What I got was a humble guy who has a palpable passion and knowledge of Vtubing, nerd culture, and things in general. Vesper also has a degenerate side that slips out on occasion, showing he's down to clown with the other boys. He acknowledged he came from humble beginnings, and Cover took a risk with him, not recognizing his own potential as a zatsudan master who could keep me interested in listening to paint dry. His story of keeping in mind that fun days will come again (the plastic ball story) is incredibly relatable. I feel like I knew at debut what kind of person he was, and what kind of entertainer, and it just made me want to join him for the ride.

His debut really come alive with that plastic ball story. I'm sure he just added the bit as a time filler, but little did he know that it's an accidental hit. It's just makes him wholesome and relatable. I was watching the hololive watchalong of his debut, and I had to run to his channel straightaway to sub.

I followed Vespers previous life, I wasn't a regular viewer but tried to keep up to date. He did pretty good for an indie, and has definitely experienced the struggle with all of its lows and highs. When the criticism started to come in, I could see him giving advice to the team on how to turn it into something positive, and fuel a desire to prove them wrong.

In all HoloEN audition, there is always at least one less-known person and usually this person will lead the others. Personally, I think Altare came from even humbler beginnings because he is more less known than Vesper but overall I am happy that this formula stays in Hololive audition.

Magni really handled that meme like an absolute professional, the push and pulling were done just right so it wouldn't die on a sour note. Funny how it also clashed with his original plans to make his debut content as boring as possible to nurture a fanbase that grew from just his personality.
edit: one of the things i like the most about holotempus's designs and art is that it actually suits their voice and personality. Tempus not finding instant success like Myth will also make for a much more memorable starting patch and a much more satisfying result for every achievement. Tempus and their fanbase will grow together through various hardships, just like the JP Holostars, which is what made the JPstars so special to their fans.

I think what's interesting about Magni's design is that he's almost never looking straight ahead while he's streaming. He's always turned a little bit and suddenly you can see the bridge of his nose and it doesn't look weird anymore. So, for some reason, all the promotional art that showed him straight on literally chose his worst angle to try to promote him.

      @Smoked_Pancakes 2 года назад +177

Another amazing about his design is his glove cloak. It gives him so much asset potential to play around with, and he damn well knows. So he commissioned an artist to make glove assets for him to use on stream and even animated himself what might be the greatest starting intro in Holopro. Also with his drawing prowess, he can take his design to whole other levels, which can be seen with his Sonic OC and his unofficial mascot that even rivals the adorableness of Takodachis, the Magmite!

4:44 Cover did NOT launch holostars EN because of luxiem. I am surprised this misconception still persists to this day.
In general Holopro just debuts batches of vtubers at a slower pace than nijisanji. They made a deliberate decision to focus on supporting their existing talents instead of churning out new talents nonstop.
auditions for male talents even in english has ALWAYS been ongoing however Cover opted to put stars EN on the back burner for the entirety of 2021 because they focused on Holostars JP heavily. They gave them a lot of projects including all member 3D, culminating with the concert at the end of the year, and then Uproar, and only after could the staff focus on Holotempus. I think people are forgetting that holopro EN doesnt have that big of a staff, everyone’s busy all the time.
the sooner people realize that the two companies just have different paces and philosophy when it comes to talents, the more peace we get
and personally, HoloPro’s decision to focus on stars JP is a move that i will always respect to the highest degree. Any other company and these boys wouldve probably just been cast aside to rot until the members graduated, but cover standing by talents even when they’re not considered big and profitable is really impressive and frankly isn’t something you’d typically expect in the corporate sphere. i cant believe im out here praising big corpos but honestly if casuals just stopped generalizing things they’d see that the situation is way more nuanced

Honestly, the one who I think hasn't quite found his niche yet (at least for me) is Axel, which is weird, because I thought I'd like him the most since his debut stream since he's another Aussie like I am. I guess if I was more interested in the music side of things I'd be more into him, though, his singing is very good.
Incidentally, the collabs that the Tempus boys have had with the girls are all great. Vesper and Magni's respective collabs with Calli were both gold, and the collab they did together with Ollie in APEX was also amazing.
10/10 would recommend holostars TEMPUS to my friends.

Agreed, I really feel like Magni, Regis, and Vesper really found their footing. While Axel kind of feels like he hasn't really found his. I was super hyped for his introduction, especially since his design was my favorite, but I find myself watching the other three more. I can tell he is still nervous and a bit too anxious compared to other three who seemed to have shaken off their nerves already.

Axel is surprisingly good at zatsudan and interacting with chat. His superchat thanking streams are really good. Plus, I feel like he works best when he has someone to bounce off of, so collabs with him are always fun. He's not a bad shot caller in Apex, either.
I'm curious to see more of his content, but chatting, Apex, karaoke, and collabing might end up being his bread and butter. Plus, he's the only fluent JP speaker and thus the only one who can easily collab with his senpai

That Apex stream had me in physical pain from laughter it was so good. Funniest stream I have seen of anything for a very long time. I think Axel stumbled a bit at the start trying to be a bit too chaotic, like his first Hitman stream was very... uh... painful to watch. The others have been better and better, but I think that first bit cost him some growth. His APEX and Zatsu streams are on point though, and his Karaoke stream was really good too (that boy can SING). I think he'd shine in more FPS games, especially if he could get his audience involved I think. But if he could get APEX with the boys or Ollie locked in more... yeah. Or RUST... I think he'd be down right lethal at that.

There's one thing that isn't mentionned in the causes of the "failing" of males VTubers : the state of the streaming industry. The biggest streamers are males gamers and there's a plethora of them, but on the female side of streaming the biggest ones are what I consider soft core p*** streamers. The success of female VStreamers can be explained by this lack of female classical streamers. There was way less competition for female content creation on the whole market which helped their growth. The males VTubers are just not filling as big a demand.
If you want to watch a woman play games while conversing and not see a chat full of sexual harassment, there's not much choice than a VTuber. But if you're looking for a man doing the same thing, you have so much choices that VTubers won't even enter your scope of research. That's why male VTubing is not reaching the same numbers.

    • @carlorielmendez6505
      @carlorielmendez6505 2 года назад +87

on the other hand, it also meant that the market for a regular male streamer/youtuber is already mature and ripe for pirating/stealing views. It is also one of the strong factors as to why tempus is experiencing their slow-start-but-stable-and-steady growth currently. they got a very big market that's well defined, and magni being a veteran in the virality scene really helped a lot.

So basically it’s really hard to become an successful female streamer without doing “bathtub” streams, so vtubing is a route for women who don’t wanna do that. Meanwhile, males aren’t expected to cater to that same horny audience, so the only reason they have to join vtubers is 1. Privacy, 2. Weeb.

I have a feeling that TEMPUS found a relatively untapped section of the EN vtuber market, which is the comfy brotuber kinda vibe.
They don't target the large fujo fanbase, instead they are inviting to both male and female audience somewhat equally. They give off the feeling that they are just here to mess around and have fun, and are not trying hard to get massive views and make as much money as possible.
It also helps that they feel really genuine on their streams, a breath of fresh air amongst the competitive vibe in the recent vtubing scene.

Yeah they still yet to integrate themselves well into the rest of NijiEN.
But on the other hand I think it's interesting to see how "different" they can be. ILuna has mixed criticisms which is they are either riding too much with the rest of NijiEN with their chaotic dynamic or they are too different and hasn't integrated well into the NijiEN community.
Each member seem to have their own strengths and are unique enough to have their own fanbase but not to the degree of a well formed unit like the previous NijiEN waves.
Being a mixed gender wave also probably faces a challenge since they have to consider boundaries and how well they can mesh with each other. I'm thankful that NijiEN finally debut a mixed wave to further blur the lines of the male and female interaction within the corpo Vtuber scene but it's not to say old mindsets and trends die hard.
Maybe they'd be more comprehensive and popular if they were a girls only or a boys only group. But I guess it's just one of the challenges you have to face in the Industry and as well as for Nijisanji.

Both Tempus and ILUNA are just finding their footing, they are all still gonna grow into their streaming personalities.
If anything what stands out to me the most is that Magni, Vesper and even Altare a little a bit, immediately settled into their new homes and already started showing exactly what kind of streamers they wanted to be. Dunno it it’s because of experience but this is rare.
If you compare to this Lazulight for example, I remember watching Pomu’s first stream and I was bit underwhelmed. But a year later, that OL quit her job doing Minecraft and she’s one of the most creative vtubers I follow right now.

But my worries were drowned when they debuted because they show so much respect for their holostars senpai and even to this day they are constantly reminding fans that their success isn't mainly because of themselves its their senpai, when fans say "thank you for finally bringing holostars to the west" they remind people that the senpai did before them.

Also, personally I believe the reason why iluna hasn’t found their core fanbase yet is because they’re over reliant/living under the shadows of their predecessors. Unlike Holopro and their ‘1 month collab ban’, NijiEN has no such restriction and therefore are immediately jumping at the chance to collab with their seniors. On one hand, they’ll gain exposure from an already established fanbase. On the other hand, it’ll hamper the growth of their core fanbase since those people would merely be ‘tourist’ rather than exclusively there for them.

VT board attributed a lot to it. Same as how they attributed a lot to some downfall. People tend to forget that all memes on the internet originated from 4Chan. What we read in other sites are either stolen from 4Chan or derivative of what 4Chan did. Appeased them and you will have a good internet based career. Which Tempus did really well. Magni understanding of how 4Chan works (since his "past life" often deal with them) and his quick reaction to follow along give the TEMPUS and holostars in general what they need. The next step would be to get some new gen in JP Holostars which are capable of being bilingual (like Coco and Hachama) and Holostars will have a bright future.

A collaboration ban to force Tempus into developing a strong identity from the beginning and a one-hour limit for the first few weeks of streaming both to pressure some sentiment of haste in their personal presentations and compressing VODs into easily digestible chunks.
All this as well as an unknown length of time spent actually playing and becoming friends with each other days, weeks, or even months prior to debuting to establish not only a strong sense of camaraderie between what is essentially now a tight-knit squad of bros with significantly varied personalites and quirks.
4 storied and well-spoken individuals with invaluavle experience in the field and a willingness to ride the line of chaos as they see fit. Each man is his own powerhouse of unique absurdity and it shows.
They were limited but through artificial obstacles were they made to develop unique and ingenious strategies of becoming something more than just a new wave of male VTubers in a saturated market and community that openly dislikes and disavows male VTubers. They didn't even need to pander to a female-oriented audience, they simp-ly fell onto their laps as good boys are want to recieve.

Fan communities are great but can also be a detriment. TEMPUS proved themselves and, I think, were made that much stronger by being given a trial by fire through the brutal criticism they received prior to their debuts, as I believe you point out in this vid. One of the biggest things TEMPUS (as well as ILUNA) are a new age of VTubers who started as big fans of VTubing, instead of being traditional streamers and entertainers. I think this is a sign of a change in the tone and community. Add to that the decreasing of prices for equipment and tools to become a VTuber and, possibly (if there remains a stable global market and economy) over the next 5-10 years, we could see a New Hollywood-style rise of indies and new companies take over and dethrone the current hierarchy, and possibly be better for it. As holostars fan (on hiatus bcs dealing with parasocial, now i'm fine and ready back to them in near future) i have wish and hope they really last long, rises with stable and healthy fans as they are. Most of holostars JP's fans are from overseas, just look at the clip about them and the comments (especially astel roberu shien) Knowing tempus got humble home and friends in this vtuber community really bring me smiles. I hope both of them can gain and maintain more local healthy fans too. Not only overseas fans, is good tbh to have fans for around the world but quite hard if our boys have offline concert. I do thinking some ppl not really capable go to japan cause different circumtance. And if our boys not really have enough local fans, company will give them longer time or concert. Aside gachikoi i hate this too. That's why i really don't like idol concept. Holostar JP & EN, they more like homie (for any gender) we can meet through virtual with talent as singer and entertainer.
And i also love how this fanbase not really have fujo (i think?) It's not like i hate them but sometimes they disturbing me.
And last, I really hope our ex'stars jp still here with us. Wish them have live they dreamed on, healthy and happy.

Its unfortunate Kira wasn't able to hang on a bit longer, because I feel like it wasn't long after where things started looking up.

What I like about Holostars and Tempus by extension, they always felt more brotherly than outright trying to become FujoBait.
and like always, if People wanted Tempus too fail, making them as memes is actually helping them instead, as usual, Ignoring Tempus like how people did to Holostars initially was more damaging then getting memed.

Social Engineering of XXI-The power of memes.
Someone is or already made an essay on this. There is more than enough evidence for this.

As one of few that was actually hyped about StarsEN debut, it made me sad that people were shitting on their designs and by doing that, shit on the artists that worked hard on them.
Ever since their debut, my interest in the EN girls completely vanished and safe to say, I won't be going back to them outside of KronMei fanarts. Vesper's story about that plastic ball and that you can be happy at work once in a long while is so fucking wholesome. I go back to it to see his absolute joy being in Holostars. Was pleasantly surprised that Cover dropped the Month ban after two weeks and it was after the boys got monetization and during their celebration, we got to see them being hit that they'e part of Holostars and that they're fucking grateful to those that stock through with them after being doubted about their debuts.
Watching their streams/VoDs is always fun and hilarious. Especially their collabs with each other where they just chill and talk shit to each other and most of all, be wholesome together. I mean fuck, Axel had a nightmare about Vesper being kidnapped or some shit and that he messaged Vesper right quick after waking and hoping that he's alright. So yeah, that's a big fucking friendship bond if I've ever seen. I'm so happy for them and excited to see them collab with their JP brothers, whenever they get the chance.
Edit: As Subatomo, I'll still watch Subaru and many of the JP girls. At least their chats are better than the EN girls. Sick of reading feet and among us in the en chat...

I wasn't really into their concept and design when they were introduced, however, as an avid StarsJP viewers, I expected such concept from Tempus, looking at how most recent StarsJP debuts' (Trinero, Uproar) character design are geared towards a more "fantasy" based character.
However, overlooking their char. design, Tempus defies my expectations and hit the ground from their debut stream, by literally being so good at genuinely playing into their lore without being too cringey. They have a good balance between playing their characters and being relatable bros. I think their best quality is the fact that all of them focus on different content, but still provided good bridges to connect between each other. It also helps that they have the vibe of chill bros hanging out with each other. It sorta make it easy to follow their content without having to fall into a specific niche.
Tbh, numbers might not reflect the level of success that Tempus has reached, if you compare to Iluna. However, given they actually have a strong core fanbase, I can see them growing more steadily in the upcoming days. It's really interesting to see which direction they would go.

when it comes to support, Tempus has a stronger supachat baseline totals nowadays. for a newbie vtuber, supas are a strong source of income (VOD ads can bring in money but for that, I don't have the numbers in front). Ren Zotto, surprisingly, has a weak superchat history (I double checked, he caught up on the average for iluna but he has a very weak supa number last week). Scarle only hit her stride the past few weeks as their gen's top supa, from a very weak viewership the prior weeks, which I am very happy for her.
So yeah, there are many ways to support the boys, but for hard earned money, Tempus is leading in terms of 1 month in supa numbers, with vesper blazing the trail.

@@carlorielmendez6505 Adding to this comment, it seems like Holostars EN has a much older audience than Illuna, which probably contributes to their relatively high supachat rate. A group of 20-40 year olds supporting Vesper will have much more disposable income than teen to twenty somethings following Iluna. At least that is my theory (on top of their already noted skill and chemistry)
