ok i get the anger from TB fans, how i took this offer from TB is that TB (maybe Stamkos?) has said i want to play for 3/4 more years, in order for TB to make it make sense on their salary cap they offered 24M for the duration of the contract (3Mx8), but TB's thinking is well this is really 6M/8M a year in the "real' years Stamkos plays, he then retires and still collects his money. 24M is 24M in TB's mind, but if Stamkos wants to play 6-8 more years for real, then its a lowball offer...jmo

it's funny seeing outsiders and casual tampa fans saying "KeEp StAmKoS No MaTtEr WhaT" lol. the romantic storybook ending would be great in if it entailed having stamkos stay with tampa, in a way that would allow him to continue his career at a fair labor cost, and in a way that allows TBL to ice a competitive team. even with his skill level at current age of 34, having scored 40 goals, steven is NOT going to be worth $8m in a few years when he declines. factor in his powerplay points from last season and his goal scoring has dropped significantly 5 on 5 the last 3 seasons. 19 of his 40G came from the pp this past season, where he benefits a lot from kucherov and hedman.
TBL needs to improve with even strength play and stamkos is on the decline at this point of his career in that regard. you can't rely on power plays to go far in the p-off's, as there are less PP's that become available. while steven won't be easy to replace, TBL needs to get younger and more versatile players to fill his void. tampa was also dogshit on defence.
hence JBB in going to extend hedman july 1st, is the correct business decision. as is bringing in guentzel, the biggest fish in the 2024 free market ocean, who is 5 years younger than stamkos.
tampa is very comfortable in how they handle their business, and they don't want to repeat the situations that mid-2010's DET went thru, and PIT of today is going thru.

As a bolts fan it hurts. JBB definitely disrespected Stammer - didn’t even have any contract talks until end of this season (could have at least contacted his agent last offseason to be more transparent). Basically gave him the same offer as Palat and Killorn got - I understand cap & term limitations but this Stamkos has a different meaning to the city and franchise.
I’ve read some people point out this move is better business so we don’t end up like the Pens with aging superstars sucking cap, but all these other moves we’ve made (McDonagh, likely gonna extend Hedman) seem to counteract that. Either way it just sucks and I don’t blame Stamkos

Not shocking, but dumb. Why would you let players go for nothing. Stamkos is still a quality player and teams will still want him. So if you are not going to resign him, then trade him for something at least. If I was a TB fan, I would be pissed that you won't resign him plus you don't get anything for him.

about stamkos not being re-signed, i understand the rationale behind it. even with his skill level at his current age of 34, having scored 40 goals, steven is NOT going to be worth $8m in a few years when he declines. factor in his powerplay points from last season and his goal scoring has dropped significantly 5 on 5 the last 3 seasons. 19 of his 40G came from the pp this past season, where he benefits a lot from kucherov and hedman.
TBL needs to improve with even strength play and stamkos is on the decline at this point of his career in that regard. you can't rely on power plays to go far in the p-off's.
as a tampa guy i am very happy with JBB's overall body of work since he became GM in 2018. he was also the AGM since 2010, working alongside GM yzerman. stevie built the 2019 team that got swept by columbus, because he wouldn't take risks and had a hard-on for small forwards that had no grit. JBB after the 2019 fiasco, took risks and added the correct pieces (goodrow, coleman, david savard,) that helped TBL win back-to-back cups, and go to 3 str8 finals.
any steve yzerman fans need to be reminded that steve as the GM didn’t win a cup with tampa. JBB did, twice. steve built a team for regular season success, JBB created a playoff team. steve hasn’t been able to deliver on either (as of yet, after year 5) in DET. this is just the facts.
my only bellyache with JBB was the tanner jeannot trade. at the time it was made, the shock of giving up nearly a whole draft class was mind-numbing. to his credit, JBB is not afraid to admit mistakes and take corrective actions. he also traded sergachev which i have no problem with either, as he wasn't performing to his $8m/AAV contract.

Agree!!! What in the hell is this GM doing??? He has completely dismantled a Stanley Cup championship team the past couple years. Poor Cooper as he must be so upset. Stamkos is the Captain and has given his heart and soul to Tampa and they don't pay him?? They pay a guy from Carolina but not their own captain that produced greatly. This makes no sense to get rid of Stamkos and Sergachev. They could have kept both and got rid of players not producing. 100% blame on this GM for this. Yzerman built the Stanley Cup championship teams and this guy has destroyed the could have been dynasty!!

I bet oilers would have won the cup with campbell in net. whats done is done.... 100% IF campbell gets another chance in the nhl, he will be a top 10 goalie! ITS THE OILERS WAY.
