As an owner of an EX 8 looking at all the options for adjustment this video is seriously awesome. Thinking about picking up a super deluxe coil and seeing how I go from there.
@@jctrails Got the shock its so good on this bike. Just wondering what you have the settings on? I'm on a 550lb spring at like 90kg rider weight so perhaps it's irrelevant but I'm curious to hear from another user of this combo.
I have the fuel ex and my favorite setting is: 160 Fork, 29" wheel, Steep angled cup so 65 degree head angle I have a coil shock and the Super Deluxe ultimate air and like them both. One thing I will say is the progressive air can is so much better than the linear. If you can get a hold of one it is worth purchasing. Makes the shock much more supple off the top and almost feels like the coil shock once you get the seals broken in.
lol... im 510 / 177 cm .. Ive been looking at the Fuel EX mainly because they do the ML which I think for me is going to be a game changer ... some bikes a M feels a tad on the small side , and a L often feels on the big side ... I managed to ride a trek M and M-L back to back today and the ML seems like the one ... still debating on the Rallon tho ..
Thanks for the review. I got a Fuel EX 8 gen 6 and have been riding it here in Brazil. Just got the 160mm damper (for the retail fox fork), but I´m still on the fence about the coil shock. So, about that: Did you fell like the coil shock made it too "sluggish" for jumping? Thanks for the great video and my best regards from Brazil.
Not sure if I missed it, but it sounded like you hopped off the fox float X pretty quick without trying or mentioning each of the more/less progressive settings? I have a DPX2 on the gen 5 EX and it feels amazing. Just trying to see if you actually tried to take the time to set the shock up right, or did you just jump straight the coil and other rock shox air shock?
I ride a Stumpy EVO S4 & feel the fit it spot on for me at 5-11…but I def agree the Trek size m/l is spot on for 5-11 as well. My previous bike was 2019 fuel ex 9.7. Both great bikes but I always struggled with climbing on my trek. I can climb much better on my EVO on trails I’d struggle with on my Fuel.
@@jctrails looks like a fun bike, I have yet to try treks latest iteration of the fuel ex tho. With updated geo I’m sure it climbs better than my ‘19 did
Congrats for the video, is a complete one. I got mine as mullet and I love it, I'm 5'5 so works well for my height and style of riding.... Do you recomend the slack cups in mullet setup?? Thanks for the giving back
@@jctrailsI'm a bit confused by this. The Trek M/L and Stevo S4 are pretty close. Personally 5'10 on an S4 and it feels perfect. I agree S3 def didn't feel good.
@@MrChadLedfordI found the s4 evo to long to be used as a trail bike for me. If I intended to ride just bike parks with it I would definitely get the s4. I actually have a s4 regular stumpy but the wheelbase is about 22 mm shorter than the evo s4.
@@jctrails I didn't think about the top tube difference, good point. I'm in a two bine situation, so my hardtail is a bit more conservative and I like my stumpjumper being a bit more long/aggressive. Regardless the new trek is excellent.
Welcome back, It’s been a hot min! Totally feel your pain as a M/L dude. Which bike would you recommend for Nam? Evo due to the tech? Spring is right around the corner, LFG!
JC.... I have a Fuel ex gen 6 9.7 that's semi custom,.... Have you tried the 160 mm fork . mini link low/ headset cups neutral / air shock in the "more" setting on 29er's ? Its great that way...
That’s how I ran it initially. I felt that it was super capable on steeper tech trails, but on my local trails it felt like too much bike and harder to get around tight corners.
@@jctrails I wonder what happens to the geometry with a 160mm fork set up as described with the headset in the slack position. Have you tried it that way?
Hey man, I just bougth the bike! Will be deliverd the next week... What coil did you put on it exactly? I guess you putted a progressive spring on it instead of a linear spring?
Fuel ex has a nice platform you can push into when you want to go fast. That platform is great for climbing too And not many bikes feel that smooth in the rear with only 140 travel Out of canyon spectral, Orbea Occam, trance x , fuel ex is the better bike
Welcome back. Hope to see more of these and maybe see you on a ride with us one of these days
🤙
great to have you back!!!!
Thanks Jason!

Hey there. Just question, is there anything to buy like bearing or bushings if change to rockshox coil. Thanks in advance..
Damn welcome back!
Thanks brotha!
Great to see you back…always looking for your blogs! Nice ride!
Good to be back!
Great review. I have a Fuel EX 9.8 but I don’t have a coil rear shock. I have Rock Shox Pike for the front. The bike rides great
Welcome back 🎉
Thank you
Very comprehensive and a good comparison to the Evo. Good to see you back

I ordered the progressive can but it’s delayed for a while. I dig your setup I think that’s what I’m going to run for this up coming riding season.
Great review. Sick whip!
Nice review! How does this pedal compared to the Top Fuel ?
It pedals almost as well as the Top Fuel, but it feels a lot heavier.
Thank you for the video 👍

Coming out of retirement 🎉🤘
It’s been a minute. Missing all the old adventures we had out on the west coast. Maybe it’s time to recreate some of those rides!

You do have calf rub in the seat stays.

The cups it comes with are perfect with mullet setup unless you’re doing the steepest trails.
Fuel EX Gen 6 want see more about this bike
I’m in the same boat. 5’10 on a s3 evo. Have to ride in slack for the extended wheelbase. Definitely a s3.5 would be perfect
I wish they would the in between size.

Have you tried running a 40mm stem on the STEVO? I am 5’10” and this put me in the perfect position. Matches the Fuel EX reach when it has a 50mm stem
I’ve tried running a 35mm and 40mm rhe s4 just feels too big to me.

full 29er mullt set up?is that not 29 front 27.5 rear

im exactly the same size and weight as you, what coil size and weight did you put on your bike?
The StEVO really does need an S3.5 size with a 460-465 reach.
That would be the dream!

Trek fuel ex gen 6, but whattttttttt bike is it?? The 5,7 or 8?????
I said it’s a frame up build at the 10 second mark 🦻

Generous tt..??..that thing is so cramped..5,9 on a large ..hate these short tt..
You must have some long arms because any TT over 615mm hurts my back.
