This is definitely one of my favourite episodes for talking what to do with life and your dreams. This has helped me see the bigger picture of you dont need to go to uni straight away and you can take your time with the choice. Especially cos I am studying media and production and learning how difficult it is to get into the industry and that its not impossible but not easy

honestly i think there is a chunk of it that is just the business of recruiting for uni's... obviously medicine law etc you need degrees, and lots of industries or companies screen via degree holders / levels for new jobs sometimes, but there is SO many other routes to getting great careers... i was borderline smart enough on grades to do an engineering degree because its sounded like what i liked (who the fk knows at 15/16 when you are committing to a certain path anyway??), but i didnt and looking back I wouldnt have lasted. (I think im terrible at study, but pick up maybe 70% of stuff fairly quickly).
Im 41 and on my 4th career, all have been quite different and i enjoyed them all, you'd be surprised at how certain skills transfer across careers. My biggest bits of advice would be talk to LOTS of people about what they actually do in their job, and how they got there. You'll learn a lot. Also - like Dan mentioned.... its ok to leave the nest and small communities, the world is a small place now. We all need money to get by, but don't spend longer than 6-18 months in something you aren't happy in..... and don't let family members get too selfish and hold you back. Have fun with it life is short

I think my favourite thing about this pod is how it can effortlessly transition from complete bullshit to genuinely sincere moments that actually contain good advice. Carl's stuff about Uni was very comforting to me as someone who is close to finishing my A-levels and is very unsure about next steps in life. Cheers Lids

Agreed, all therapy is helpful but you're supposed to talk to eachother, if you can do that and everything is fine, then you don't need anyone else's help. The pressure of expectations of what being married is seems to get to a lot of people, but it's just a title, if your relationship is fine before it's going to be fine afterwards.

2:03:19 uni tution fees in Scotland is free! I just have my student loan to pay back but I’ll only pay £4 a month if I earn between £33,000 and £34,000 a year. And if you never reach £33,000 a year you never have to pay it back. Pretty good deal if you ask me 😂

I had no idea what I wanted to do
with my life when I was younger, I went to college instead of Uni but got the similar experience because I went to a college miles away from where I lived and lived away from home.
I think Uni works for some people if they have vocational dreams but you can go to college and meet new people etc.
I had more experience getting a job and working my way up. Some of the people I work with (who have a degree) have little common sense, they can’t problem solve by themselves. I’m not painting everyone with the same brush but that’s just what I’ve seen.

Hey lads, love the podcast, it’s got me through some really tough times.
Just wanted to say, as a Jehovah’s Witness myself people need to discount 90% of what’s said. I loved Ooba’s Amazon doc however, some of the stuff I’ve heard about my own beliefs have made me question the accuracy of the Amazon doc. 99% of Witnesses are normal people, we drink in the pub like you do, we enjoy spending quality time with friends and family like you do. I general, we do 80% what anyone else does, just a few things different that has no affect on anyone else.
Well, better go, got to pay my membership fee to my religion … how much was it again? 🤦🏼♂️🤣

Im an American so i may have a weird view of channel 4 but ive followed channel 4 and their RUclips channel for years and it seems comparable to MSNBC in America. At least their reporting on American politics seems wildly partisan.
