I never realised before that Americans say "drill press" but the English say "pillar drill", which is literally same as in my native language, Dutch, just translated.

A beautiful masterpiece! I didn't realize that oak and steel react like that - good to know.

You have to think about that if you have an oak cutting board and carbon steel knives. It does react with each other nad leaves black lines where you cut and it might not be good for the knife's edge if you don't clean it immediately

I got one question tho. I know this is most likely preference and stuff, but why did u turn the live edge facing downwards. In my opinion, that is the most beautiful part of any slab.

My guess is because of wood movement. If the top cups it will try to do it towards the bark side and in this configuration the table’s legs and frame will minimize cupping. I could of course be wrong though.

Great overview and explanations. Think you may have missed adding the link to the steel wool / vinegar tests though. :) (and the kit link returns a 404)

Can someone give me the link for the test with vinegar and steel wool? I don't see it in the top corner

Amazing work on the table. Leg construction is absolutely spot on. I don't want to piss on your parade, but now these chairs are no fit for such a gorgeously made table.
Maybe a chairs project is coming up next? 😅

Natura Onecoat is a great finish. Note that it only needs ~3-5min dwell time before buffing off unlike Rubio that calls for 15min. I left Natura on for 15min the first time and it was too much, like Matt's situation of having to sand it back it can happen rather quickly so treat a section at a time. Also note that if you want more of a satin sheen this product looks amazing after a second coat (wait a couple days between coats though). I cringed after watching Matt pour that finish in a zig zag pattern as I knew immediately that you can't do that on a softwood or open pore wood species with these hardwax oils.
