One of Sarath Kumar's best performances. Never liked him much until this movie. The lead characters and their intentions are really well written right until the end. Feels a little like ratsasan but very stylishly made. I'll watch it again just for brilliantly written lead characters

I actually couldn't relate to Sarath Babu in the role he was playing. I was viewing him only as the actor Sarath Babu and felt sad. Maybe his recent demise could have generated this perception and feeling.

Por Thozhil was truer to it's genre than Mysskin's Psycho. Psycho was a drama in the disguise of a thriller. Also if the messaging in Por thozhil was generic then so was the extremely out of place messaging by Aditi rao in the end of Psycho

I felt the same about the background music. When there was a romantic scene, the music played kinda spoiling the whole mood for me. If there was no music, it could've been realistic I think. And yes, I thought the heroine would fight by herself since she was shown as an overachiever, lol. She seemed like she was just there to motivate Hero 😢 but overall, I loved the two guys chemistry and their hidden respect for each. It was wonderful to watch Sarath Kumar.

This is my understanding and my perspective on this film as I was watching this movie I was reminded of David Fincher's movie "Seven" I figured that this movie was based on all the seven deadly sins. Nowhere in the movie was the Seven deadly sins mentioned directly, so I'll explain my understanding of it and where and how I noticed these sins and how they were connected with the characters in the movie.
*Pride* - Character - The lead role played by you
It was shown in the trailer about how proud you were for winning the medals and all but it wasn't shown in the movie. The dialogue by the female lead that said respect is earned by your work not by your achievements also supported the same.
*Greed* - Character - Sharath Babu (Sebastian)
When he murdered his first victim by mistake, he found peace when his father was distracted. So greed took over him which led to him killing more and more people. Usually the consequences of actions due to greed is regret which we saw when he prayed for forgiveness and also took his own life.
*Lust* - Charcter - Serial killers wife and ammukutty
The movie opened with this sin as heard from the radio. Even the serial killers wife can be another example. So whatever was played in the radio was the motive of the killer that leads were looking for throughout the movie.
*Envy* - This was represented by the law and order department and even when Sarath Kumar writes the topic on the board but does not explain it. So envy was represented by the law and order department upon the crime branch department.
*Gluttony* - The killer is the character that represents this sin. This was noticed when he eats in a hurry and also when his wife shames him for eating so much.
*Wrath* - The police officer who played the role of Sebastian's father who had extreme anger issues.
*Sloth* - Character - The police officer who was previously investigating the case in Trichy.
He portrays this sin when he was in a situation where he wasn't able to solve the case so he cooked up evidence and an innocent person was framed and killed just because he was too lazy to work to find the actual killer.

    Spolier alert ❗❗
The villain character could have developed better. He didn't invoke the fear later because not much was shown about him rather more time was spent on the 1st suspect. His long flashback didn't add value to the story.
The long flashback should have been given for the main villain and not the 1st suspect.
That could have created stronger emotions. Just one scene of abuse by a bad wife isn't a convincing reason to become a psychopath.otherwise fine.

    • @rajasennhere
      @rajasennhere Год назад +15

You spoke my mind. The first guy flashback was long and dragging. Not sure if it was intentional to not to focus on second person until climax, so that audience will find it as a twist, which worked well too. But completely agree with the reason for killing could have been better.
Also female character was added only for last part, and I thought she would have something interesting during hee introduction scenes.
Overall, director didn't take the audience for granted, did not waste valuable time of audience

That's right. One thing I was happy about was that there were no unnecessary romance scenes wasting time. The little that was shown is fine. The sarath Kumar character actually created pity rather than hate. If they could have generated strong hate and fear for the main villain then the combination of these two emotions could have created a different mood. Anyway, overall it was good. Especially the dialogues. Ashok Selvan mentioning 'நீங்க போலீஸ் ஆகி இருக்கலாம் ஆனால் நீங்க கண்டிப்பா நார்மல் கிடையாது'. That is the reality. Abused kids may not all become criminals but definitely they will be struggling to lead a normal life. The wound doesn't heal easily.

Mr Baradwaj, you missed that Ratchasan was a copy of Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu. Por Thozlil is a copy of Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu and Ratchsan. I am at my wits end of words as to how such an experienced film critic could miss these rudimentary things. There is nothing new or sensational about Por Thozlil. At best it's an okay movie, if one is not used to Malayalam and Foreign movies. Por Thozlil is highly overrated. Before questioning my comments, I advise people to watch Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu closely, fom the start to end. There is was Jothika in the climax in Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu, Amala Paul in Ratchasan and in Por Thozlil it's Nikila. The Psychopath always has a van in Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu and Ratchasan. In Por Thozlil it's a car. The reason for turning into Psycho is also similar. Police investigation is also similar. Kamal will interact with about 40 policemen and they would have missed basic details. Here in Por Thozlil, Sarath Kumar will do the replica scene. A close associate of the hero will be killed in Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu and in Ratchasan, hero's relative (Police Constable's) daughter will be killed. In Por Thozlil too, Head Constable's daughter will be killed. There are numerous such scenes and I would recommend viewers watch Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu now without being carried away by not so fair reviews 👍

This review is for all Indians. That's why he is speaking English. If he says it in Tamil, this video will reach only Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Only Tamilians and some mallus know Tamil. Tamil is not like Hindi. It is a language where only a minority uses the Tamil language. (Tamils constitute only 5.9% of the population in India) the rest of the 94.1 percentage people in India don't know Tamil, so that's why his reviews are in english

@@sundarswaminathan4631 Actually Baddy since his film companion days have been giving english reviews for all movies he reviews. Even other reviewers like Hriday and even the Malayalam reviewers were reviewing in English. That practice kind of continued in Galatta plus largely due to Baddy's horde of online fans. This can be seen through how Galatta Plus blowed up in views pre-Baddy to current-Baddy videos era. The reason I am supportive of reviewing in English is mainly of 2 points. First being there are multitudes of channels (both mainstream reviewers and news channels who take out of theatre viewpoints of audiences) who are already reviewing Tamil movies and other movies in Tamil. A few good examples of quality tamil reviewers would be Kaki's Talkies and Filmi Craft Arun. For the second reason in today's growing Pan-Indian and Pan-World viewership of content - language barriers are diminishing fast, at least for the cinephile communities worldwide- people around the globe are watching content regardless of content. Yes I do agree most audiences for Tamil films especially small films like this are from Tamil Nadu or the tamil diaspora or people affiliated with the community or the film fraternity. However as per my earlier point, there are many people wanting to learn about new good film releases in any languages (especially from languages like Tamil - a major film fraternity in India). Some non-tamil cinephile and reviewers like Nona Prince, Anupama Chopra, and others really look towards Baddy and his reviews as a reference point or even as a guide to check this movies out - if not theatres at least in OTT. It would really help grow the box office for such small movies, promoting much solid content and young promising talent from the industry in the future. This wave of globalisation has even brought small-to-mid-sized tamil movies like Love Today from a blockbuster in Tamil to even a BB in Telugu too. Hence I hope you understand why Baddy reviews in English - a common language for many. Lastly, I would like to finish with, Baddy reviewing in English does not diminish the tamil-ness of the movie or disadvantage tamil audiences due to the availability of choices, whereas English reviews of Tamil films are a rarity. Also Baddy is a english pesunalum Tamizhan type-a guy, so let's not hate fam. English-kaaran mattum Tamizh mannulae 200 varusam vaazhnthaan-la, now through our media and content (mainly through understandable english reviews of tamil content) let's capture their hearts and minds too. Tamizh vaazhga!
