Completely understand. I had a job with a higher salary and was miserable. My new job is at a lower rate of pay but I’m so much happier where I am now!

This was right on point! I'm currently in the corporate world and this is exactly what people are like...on autopilot. I myself am currently in the same boat but also studying to be a teacher to have more purpose and have more time with my kids when they are off. I am very scared to get into a new career but I am looking forward to helping my future students achieve great things! This just gave me that extra boost to keep going on my teaching path! 😊

Glad to know it's not just me who sees these people in the corporate world! It's no offense to them, I just can't autopilot myself each and every day! Being a teacher is something I never thought I'd try, but it's SO FULL-FILLING!

Hey Kristen, thank you for making this video. I just went quit a higher paying job at as an associate at a law firm to take a job in public service. Its a pay cut for sure but its where my passion is. I became a lawyer to help people and in my last job, I liked my colleagues, my boss, the work, and the intellectual challenges but really didn't feel like I was helping people and that disappointed me. You have to follow your passions and do what makes you happy. Thank you for reinforcing that!

26 years I worked in a corporate purchasing job, and took a early retirement, and went to be a substitute teacher. I am also retired military disabled vet.
I enjoy going to a High School each day,

Steve Abrams what did you do? I'm a teacher and always wonder about substitute backgrounds and what brings them to education after retirement.

    • @biking1953
      @biking1953 6 лет назад +1

B Peltier personally I had learning disabilities when in school, had several very bad teachers. From the time I was in the end of middle school and my first year in HS I just was so far behind due to dyslexia that I just stopped going. Had a friend that was a 6th grade teacher who told me to get my GED and trade. I got help from several people to help me deal with dyslexia, passed GED by 16 and a half and by 17 joined the service.
During my military, I took classes in any subject I like, some job I wanted required college and I began getting my classes, met the person who became my wife and she always backed me going to classes. I was a air plane mechanic, jet mechanic and medical crew chief during my military.
From the time I began having children two sons I pushed education as soon as they could talk and learn. Today both of my sons are teachers in HS. Both also teach the blind and mobility.
After retiring from a vert stressful corporate job, took some time off. Then decided I could give back to my community by being a teacher, but decided that subbing gives me flexibility of time off. I work 4 days a week if I want.
I sub for Agriculture, history, higher level maths trig, calculus, and some ap classes.

There comes a point where we have to ask ourselves: is this job sustainable long term? If not, LEAVE! Life is way too short to feel like you can’t change jobs and feel miserable everyday. You spend most of your waking hours at work everyday as a full time employee. Why spend most of your adult life hating every second? I 100% agree!

It’s so hard for me right now. I’m 25, been working the same job for 6 years. Great pay, 3-4 consecutive days of a week.. but the days I do work are hell! I have to drive an hour and a half both ways and have no energy by the first day off. I live in a small town and I was recently in a car accident which has allowed me time to realize how much stress I was under working.. I wanna take some time to work seasonal/ part time jobs doing fun things and connect with my community more. Would it be worth it?

In Canada teachers get 2 months paid holidays in summer & have very nice pensions. Plus lots of breaks & nice Xmas break. Holiday with lots of teachers & they lived nicely. They showed me pics & talked of how well they did. And their pictures bare it out.

Hi Kristen, my name is Voula. I'm from Sydney, Australia. Your channel is awesome! You are a big inspiration. I admire your confidence and how you are very self-sufficient and a go-getter. I respect how you chose to pursue a career that's meaningful to you and improves the quality of your life over to be unhappy in your corporate job. It's also wonderful that you haven't let the lower pay limit you and that you have boosted your income with several side hustles :)

I'm in a similar situation. I just started a new job working in a bank. Now the pay is pretty good but it's not I want. I just don't have the passion for this job. I also have an opportunity to work in education for less pay but I know I'll like the job because I worked in this field before. But my family doesn't really support my decision but I know what's best for me and my future. Any advice would be great?

Anytime you go from an established job to start a new job especially in a field you are new to, you will take a pay cut. Only 10%, you got off easy. I just took a 40 % paycut to base salary & nearly 100 % cut to commissions. Just to keep working in tight job market in Canada.

So nice of the kids to give you gifts, they must like their teacher! Plus you get the summer to yourself if you want! Teaching job is Not Rewarding in any way. I have experience. You will not get a Good Paycheck plus No Respect from ur So called children/ pupils as they grow. You are Very Young so enjoy Teaching Now. You are Young and Angry now, so you are Dreaming thinking Teaching is giving you Job Satisfaction. Friend, if you Work in any Corporate/ Office and have work friendly relationship and just Concentrate on ur job( drink it as bitter medicine maybe), at the end of the Day the Money will help you Fulfill most of the things you want to do in ur Life, for your partner and you, travel, safety. So Atleast you get Money. Teaching job is Dreaming of getting anything...you won't be Young Forever my Friend. As you get older you will Realize your Mistake of Joining Social Service alias Teaching as your Basic job.If you Love it, do Partime teaching in school Instead and Do a job which will give you Future Benefits, my friend, just a friendly suggestion. Don't ruin your life. Or Ignore it, its your Choice. Take care.

Cruise ship employees who return home after years at sea can relate to symptoms of PTSD - just essentially trying to jump back into a life that you've been absent from for so long - and yes, I definitely miss travel! I have 3 trips booked the first 3 months of 2019 already! :)

In Canada, when teacher’s union is in contract dispute, they go on & on, how terrible their life is. Then when they are fighting to keep their union jobs, they fight like demons to keep their union jobs. There is a message there.
