      Yep, my buddy was engineer taking the train from Vardo to Enola. There were times he backed off and let the 611 run. 😁

    This is awesome. I saw the 611 in Strasburg when I went to their train museum. I just put the video about it up on my channel. I was so excited to see it in Strasburg that I put it on my thumbnail for my video. Thanks for sharing.

    The Strasburg Railroad is one of my favourite steam heritage Railroads and 611 is also one of my favourites.

      611 will most likely not have PTC installed because she’s mainly used on NS owned trackage and does not travel far like that unless she is accompanied by another locomotive. Besides, I don’t think that 611 will be going back to Strasburg again so it’s a really nice opportunity to see her there for people who can’t.

    Its a shame that 611 arrived early but can't run yet until September 27 a month from now since 1 it needs to get its yearly inspection and 2 the Strasburg needs to do the finishing touches on 475's rebuild that'll hopefully be done in the next few weeks but I can't agree this is how it all goes and it's my job to not get in the way of it and just be patience like everyone else

      They're not that tired or old. Strasburg has a reputation of - in Kelly Anderson's words - over maintaining the railroad and using higher grade rail than what would ever be needed

    From what I know, the 611 excursion program was cancelled in Roanoke due to Amtrak's protest that she could not run on the same tracks due to her lack of ATC. Go figure. Hence, pulling her with modern diesels makes perfect sense. God forbid, that you have a renegade steam locomotive out there!

      Dino Zilic yes. The locomotive is in the back shop getting its annual inspections. 611 is scheduled to come out on Friday September 27th, 2019 for its first weekend of operation.

      If you mean over NS trackage it was just delayed constantly by other traffic, if you mean how slowly it moved over Strasburg track it's because they were being very cautious with such a large locomotive on their track, that's why you hear all the creaking towards the end of the video where I'm focusing on the wheels

      611's tender contains coal and water. They also brought their Canteen tender as well, which provides additional water tanks. The canteen might not be needed at Strasburg since the line is fairly short with services along the way.

      rwam chubb She will be at Strasburg for all of September and part of October before packing for home. As of right now she is in the big engine house at Strasburg.

      Trainlover123 #TrainsRock 475 is currently undergoing a rebuild. 611 is actually having her annual inspection while at Strasburg and in late September/October when 475 is ready, they will be pulling a number of excursions

      1218 will never run again Norfolk Southern could care less about steam

      611 has been back in service for a few years now. Was resurrected for 21st century steam and ran a few seasons before that program ended.
      1218's boiler needs major work to be done before she could even try to steam again. All new firebox and flues required, and the engine has been sitting so long that bearing work would be necessary to revive it. They barely can find places to operate the 611, so there is no plans to restore 1218 to operation anytime soon since it would be even harder to find routes for.

      Doesn't have PTC equipment, which has become required on Class 1 right of ways like Norfolk Southern. Plus it helped stretch her fuel and water supplies so she wouldn't have to stop to pick up water along the way, letting the diesels do most of the work like that.
      Still, be glad that she's on the move at all. Because more than a few major railroads have become hostile to steam preservation and will not let the engines run on their track at all, they can only be taken dead in tow between groups of diesels.

      Fred Stiening The Virginia Museum of Transportation and the Fire Up 611 campaign are still asking for donations to install PTC on 611.

    huh diesles? why the blazeblue blue blazes in sam hill arent they letting her run on her own, 611 is a thoroughbreed and has more power they those diesels do on a per unit basis she has 5000 hp if its about he terrain actually vs 4400. or is this about fuel savings
