Adidas probably sent you a pair to review because you are the only RUclipsr still regularly reviewing Ultraboost sneakers. I for one appreciate the ongoing UB reviews, thanks!
My best guess. Ultraboost 1.0-6.0 - Gen 1 Ultraboost 19 & 20 - Gen 2 Ultraboost 21 & 22 - Gen 3 Ultraboost Light - Gen 4 I think you were right in thinking the generations come down to midsole/outsole differences. Even though the UB Light looks similar to the 21/22 I’m guessing that the new boost compound deserves its own generation. I just wish someone from adidas would tell us why definitively.
Also the Light had a different outsole tread and torsion beam pattern and slightly different upper so I guess it's different enough to be considered another generation albeit short-lived.
I think naming 5, 5X is also a marketing method of adidas. The fact that many people, customers discuss, compare, learn and share about it is marketing. The more people talk about it, the more widely the brand will spread.
I have the 5X, and I like the looks and functionality better. I never liked the cage as it digged into the top of my foot. Also, I like the larger stripes along the side of the 5X. The shoe also happens to be lighter without the cage.
Guess it really depends on the shape of your foot, for me it never dug in so I actually prefer the cage on the 1.0’s for extra stability. The 5.0s do look like the cage would be an issue though. Been wearing the 1.0’s since they came out, thinking of getting a pair of these as a side pair for extra cushioning.
I'm going to Japan soon and will be walking a lot so I decided to go ahead and buy these at full price. I've had the 22's and 19's before and so far I do think the 5's are the best balance of everything. Definitely softer than the 22's and easier to walk in than both but interestingly when running I feel like the 22's actually feel a bit better! It's like the 5's absorb the impact a bit too much and/or the torsion spring helped launch me more on the 22's. So I'd say the 19's (1.0) are best for just standing, 22's are best for running, and 5's are best for walking and the best overall Ultraboost so far. It also seems like the grip is indeed better on the 5's too. I just hope it lasts a good while since the tread is always my limiting factor for longevity.
My best guess on the naming convention: Gen 1) UB 1.0-5.0 share midsole Gen 2) UB 19-20 share midsole, introduced ISS tested Boost Gen 3) UB 21-UB 22 share midsole, introduced women’s tooling Gen 4) UB LightBoost midsole, finally introduced lighter Boost Gen 5) UB 5-5X midsole, introduced max-stacked forefoot They’re grouping them by midsole tooling and compound. The generations are separated roughly every 3 years. adidas should clear this up be naming them that way. But they confused everything with the 1.0-5.0 thing. Yes, the upper knit can make a difference, but running shoe generations are most easily identified by the midsole and outsole. adidas makes midsole compounds that are durable - and react the same - regardless of weather conditions. Boost really emphasized that even in the adizero range. LS+ and LSPro accomplish that with advanced pop and much lighter weights. ✌🏽💙👟
Kool shoe, but the price is wayyyyyy too high! I'll wait till november when they'll go on sale. Pureboost 5 is the same shoe just detached tongue, right?
Love your videos for years, but your recent lighting setup at the desk is super harsh and makes your videos look washed out/lower res. Still appreciate the detail in the shoe reviews. Edited to add - 5:50 did it come with the glue looking like that?
I think it’s the “5” because it’s the “5th generation” of Ultraboost. The numbering does not make sense, unless you group those shoes into technology generations based mostly on the midsole foam and tech, and then you can argue “yea, between 1.0, DNA, the 20’s, and lightboost V1, the new lightboost V2 midsole is the 5th generation tech of ultraboost” … or something like that.
Still really hope you can review the ASICS Gel Quantum 360 VIII I think you’d be pleasantly surprised. The combination of the ffblast+ with the slightly firmer but still soft visible gel is a game changer for me. Almost give a suspension feeling. VERY soft initial squish follows by abit of support. A great lifestyle shoe if you don’t want the ultra squish. They beat the boost all day for me as it’s not a single compound designed to be soft yet supportive. You can genuinely distinguish between the 2 systems working together
1:48 seeing the og ultraboost there kinda made my heart sink given the direction it's evolved into especially design wise. I feel the same about the nmd line. Tis what it is I guess
I will never spend 180 on UB they always goes on sell for under 100.and with all the super max runners shoes saucony,NB,ON,hoka.they better reduce the price to 140 on release
Slight improvement from last gen. But there are better options out there from other brands, not only from a price point perspective, but materials overall. Boost feels outdated, even this new “light boost”.

Happy Friday everyone!! 🚨if interested Buy adidas Ultraboost 5X here: bit.ly/3WL64ih
Why they put less and less rubber on outsole?
Adidas probably sent you a pair to review because you are the only RUclipsr still regularly reviewing Ultraboost sneakers. I for one appreciate the ongoing UB reviews, thanks!
My best guess.
Ultraboost 1.0-6.0 - Gen 1
Ultraboost 19 & 20 - Gen 2
Ultraboost 21 & 22 - Gen 3
Ultraboost Light - Gen 4

Oh man, I miss so much the Uncaged Parley Ultraboost, best sneaker I have ever had.
Haven't seen the Ultraboost 5 in the adidas app, but the Ultraboost 5x is there
My best guess on the naming convention:
Gen 1) UB 1.0-5.0 share midsole
Gen 2) UB 19-20 share midsole, introduced ISS tested Boost
Gen 3) UB 21-UB 22 share midsole, introduced women’s tooling
Gen 4) UB LightBoost midsole, finally introduced lighter Boost
Gen 5) UB 5-5X midsole, introduced max-stacked forefoot

I have the web DNA boost. Love the style and comfort. I wish they made new versions of the Web DNA.
yeah! They should do sock version and detached tongue as well. the only reason I don't buy them, is the struggling to put them on
Can you compare those with the Supernova Rise?
Please review PUREBOOST 5
Can you please compare the Ultraboost 5x vs Pureboost 5, also I think the Pureboost 5 has the detached tongue!
Kool shoe, but the price is wayyyyyy too high! I'll wait till november when they'll go on sale. Pureboost 5 is the same shoe just detached tongue, right?

4:00 very good point
How are they compared to on cloud cloudmonster 2
As soft underfoot as the x_plr boost?
Would love to see a comparison video comparing Ultraboost 5/5X to Nike Pegasus 41 for all around/day comfort
I really love the new boost. I immediately replaced my 19s/20s lol
I am 11UK Wide 2E, what size should I get this in? Half size up?

Maybe these shoes will work for me. That plus if sides with the 3 stripes always digs into my feet so I’ve never purchased a Boost shoes.

Did you compare these to the X_PLRBOOST?
I wonder if Adidas scrapped the 24s 🤔
First! Love your videos Hes
Why the heck isn’t the 5 available. Only see the 5x 🤬
1:48 seeing the og ultraboost there kinda made my heart sink given the direction it's evolved into especially design wise. I feel the same about the nmd line. Tis what it is I guess
I enjoy the ultraboost 5x look and feel better
God that black color way looks so good... I don't wanna drop $180 though, they need to go on sale asap 😂
I will never spend 180 on UB they always goes on sell for under 100.and with all the super max runners shoes saucony,NB,ON,hoka.they better reduce the price to 140 on release
Hope they release other colorways
Can someone tell me why I can’t find these in a size US mens 15?
Other than the cage, basically the same shoe.
Lighter too
Make a Most comfortable ultra boosts vid 😊
PLEASE REVIEW NB SC TRAINER V3 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Really is a shame Adidas decided to ruin the Ultraboost in 2021 and has continued double down on it ever since.
Pureboost has the detached

It's 2024 Man! UPLOAD IN 4K!!!
Nice I'll wait about 1 year, it will be on sale and then I'll buy it.

Slight improvement from last gen. But there are better options out there from other brands, not only from a price point perspective, but materials overall. Boost feels outdated, even this new “light boost”.
They look way to squishy
Whats wrong with Adidas and their design team? Honestly the Ultra Boost is gettin uglier and uglier
