  • Breaking down the top 14 Tree runs on Blackcomb mountain in Whistler Blackcomb.
My favourite powder days at Whistler are always spent skiing in the trees. Trees create visibility on foggy days, protect the snow from sun and wind, hold snow hostage and also hide it from other skiers. Some of the deepest, fluffiest powder is often tucked into the trees just waiting to be stumbled across.
You don’t have to head off into the backcountry to find awesome tree skiing in Whistler Blackcomb. There are amazing powder stashes located throughout the trees all over the mountain. Sometimes the best tree skiing can be experienced by just popping in and out of the trees while skiing down the main runs.
In this video I’m going to introduce you to some awesome marked and un-marked spots where intermediate/advanced/expert skiers can play around in the trees.
    Runs Featured in This Video:
    1. Excelerator Trees (Excelerator Chair)
    2. Raptors Ride, Wheres Joe, Watch Out, Yard Sale (Catskinner Chair)
    3. Bark Sandwich & Little Cub (Catskinner Chair)
    4. Gear Jammer (Blackcomb Gondola)
    5. Everglades (7th Heaven)
    6. Glades Below Cloud 9 and Hughes Heaven (7th Heaven)
    7. Smoked Salmon & Salmon Belly (Glacier Chair)
    8. Fraggle Rock & Log Jam (Crystal Chair)
    9. Riders Revenge (Crystal Chair)
    10. Arthurs Choice (Crystal Chair)
    11. Outer Limits (Crystal Chair)
    12. Overbite and Davies Dervish (Crystal Chair)
    13. In The Spirit (Excelerator Chair)
    14. The Bite & Staircase (Jersey Cream Chair)
PLEASE NOTE you should always stick with a friend and exercise caution when skiing in trees. Whistler Blackcomb is a massive resort and the hazards are very real. Take your time when getting to know new areas. Cliffs, rocks, and fallen trees exist everywhere and will not be marked off main trails.
Hopefully this video will help you to get more comfortable on the mountain and become a better tree skier.

    • @riseandalpine

      Hey E San!
What run in particular are you thinking about? Exploring the trees is definitely challenging on a snowboard since it is hard to walk around and maneuver around trees if things get flat. Try Arthurs Choice! It's a great spot for intermediate-advanced snowboarders with trees and no flat spots :)

Which ones would you suggest for entry level tree runs for snowboarders?

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  2 года назад +3

For snowboarders its always best to learn to ride trees when there is a little fresh snowfall so the bumps are smaller!!
I would try and any of the lower glades on 7th heaven, especially everglades or under the chair. It has the slope of a blue and you can go in and out of the trees to practice.
I also like to take skiers learning trees on Riders Revenge, or Arthurs Choice on the Crystal Chair. (Arthurs Choice gets really bumpy so it could be annoying on a board)
If you are on the Whistler Side, the lower blue runs on the Symphony chair are also a great way to get comfortable with skiing trees. Super mellow slope and groomed around the trees.
Hopefully that helps a little bit!

Amazing! I hope you get some good weather for your trip.
      I've listed these runs as
      On The Blackcomb Side:
      1. Spanky's Ladder is amazing. I recently wrote a blog post and drew some maps on the best routes through it which might be helpful for you. Sapphire Chutes and Zut Zut in the Sapphire Bowl are my favourites!

      2. 7th Heaven Everglades (go to the far right below the reservoir) and ski trees until the last cat-track
      3. Saudan Couloir starting at False Face
      4. Any of the Runs/Chutes from Secret Bowl (ie. Pakalolo or Cougar Chutes)
      5. Hike up towards Horstman peak and ski Prime Rib, Stupid East or Stupid West. (Usually solid snow in here)
      6. Showcase T-Bar and ski the Blackcomb Glacier and check out the ice cave
      7. Outer Limits for some adventurous tree skiing
Some of the runs mentioned explained in this post: riseandalpine.com/2022/01/10/the-steepest-scariest-runs-on-blackcomb-whistler-blackcomb-freeskiing-guide/
      Whistler Side:
      1. Peak Chair: Play around on Whistler bowl and maybe try the Cirque
      2. West Cirque to Christmas Trees (a great mix of steep skiing and tree skiing)
      3. Sun Bowl (off the back of Harmony chair)
      4. Flute Bowl (this one is a about a 30 minute hike but the snow is amazing and is totally worth it. Views are also spectacular of Cheakamus lake and the mountains)
      5. Peak to Creek (longest consistent ski run in North America)
      6. Harmony Horseshoes into Harmony Bowl
Explanations for some of the runs mentioned:
      riseandalpine.com/2022/01/07/the-13-steepest-most-difficult-ski-runs-on-whistler-mountain-whistler-blackcomb-freeride-guide/
Since you were talking about Spanky's I assumed you were an expert and comfortable skiing whatever. Usually the best snow hides in the trees and toughest terrain!

Do you ski these alone? Should be no problem with tree wells within bounds at whistler right?

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  2 года назад +1

I ski alone quite a bit. There is actually huge tree-well danger at Whistler and many deaths per year. If you stay on the gladed runs and don't blast into the trees randomly than the risk is much less significant.
Always best to ski with a friend if you have one!

@@riseandalpine Thanks I went out on a lot of these runs today! Great fun, and I agree the marked gladed runs seem a lot safer for tree wells. Hope to see you out there one day!

Kyhber Pass, Singing Pass, international trees, CBC trees. But I’m not telling you where any of those are.
