Would love to see Independence go faster but i think as it stands being the fact that it was meant to be a scrapped car and went down at 9.73 is impressive enough for it, id say save it for more drag and drives and burnout events. The way it is now is awesome. Great job VGG
That was great. So nice to see a NW Indiana rust bucket get turned into a 9 second machine. I've loved this whole build because of the origin of where this car came from. Based in the UK and NOT a petrol head or into fast cars, but love the channel, love this recent series with Sick Week. All power to you Derek. My wife and I are visiting family in Minot ND very soon so looking forward to touching down in the States again.
Great job! Fantastic that you saved the car, ran it all over Florida and South Georgia and still made some great passes. Keep a big block in Independence and let it live out its life as a 10 second rig. Now, give it some TLC.
Been watching for a long time now Derek, you and your family are a refreshing reality in the youtube race. Always keeping it real, and very entertaining. I wish you well, my friend.
Like I've said for years , an 8.2 10 bolt *with a spool* is just as strong as a 12 bolt or a 9" . You just seen a big block car leave on the brake on slicks lol . I'm running a single turbo LS chevelle also with the same setup no issues in two years for me with radials and about 85 passes .
I'm thinking 9" swap, with either 3.42 or 3.73 gearing and a locker. That way it's still going to do respectable for burnouts, but also get a lot closer to its full 1/4 mile potential as well! Definitely time for a cage upgrade though!
Very freakin cool.👍🏻 It’s amazing how attached I’ve gotten with that old car. When you bought that peace of junk I seriously wondered about your decision making skills. Now…I can’t wait to see what time the old girl will lay down today. Awesome job will the channel and bring back old Independence.

And you put in so much work to make it happen. Congrats on completing the week. And thanks for sharing your experience with us. Can't wait for the next one.
A heartfelt thank you to Tom Bailey. He put Derek in the Ice Cream truck and got him going in Drag and drive. Tom's a class act and Sick week was a superb event. Thanks Kevin Smith for helping Derek make independence what it is. Without KSR Independence was dead in the water. Thanks to Derek and Jessica for taking us along for the ride.
Lol you can see the joy in jackstand's face when he showed up with that go fast in a can.
"James, get the nitrous bottle!"
I’m surprised he only brought one
Jessica, thanks again for letting Derrick come out and play!

Mind blowing, that’s what describes your week Derek!!! Faster, faster and faster. As The Eagles said “Take it to the limit, one more time”!!! From junk to gem. Great week, great videos. You help me get through while recovering from surgery and bored out of my mind. Thank you sir!!! 👍🇺🇸
Mind bottlin
Dude this was so cool. The engine blew in my car this week and I was a hair away from trading it in... thanks to you I am going to fix it myself. First time pulling an engine, wish me luck.
Best way to learn, plus y'all gots the YT these modern days - helps to have a chum assistant along for the job though. Hit the local parts shop, rent the hoist.
Welcome to the dark side my dude!!! Once you start its damn near impossible to quit… Carcaine.
lots a luck and happy learnin. I hope your as suprised as I was to find out how good at it you are....after a few years and learning what not to do!
Great endurance and performance run. If you ever get near NW Illinois I recently inherited my Grandpa’s ‘42 2N that has been in his shop and hasn’t moved in 38 years that I am going resurrect, and of course all the cold snacks a fellar would need.
As always - out there motivating people to do something with their projects (or even to get one) - keep it up VGG. Content was great and I look forward to whatever other adventures you have planned.
Thank you for bringing us along with you & Jessica❣️🙏🏽❤️
Sad to see Sick week end, but I'm sure you're looking forward to some sleep!
End in the 9's? Well done.
Cold snax before sleep!
Keep pushing that one to be faster! You have others for cruising. Let this one be for the speed! Buts all what you wanna do and I’ll keep watching every time there’s a video with joy! Thanks for the great videos and hope to catch you in person one day! I tried finding you at sema but didn’t get the chance! Thanks for mine and my wife’s weekly entertainment! Great love.
Thanks for branching out of your typical work to participate in this event. I recently found your channel and we have been binging on you and your family. We happened to be in Bradenton last week so my wife and I attended and had a great time. Nice work on the cars and special thanks to Tom for putting the event together. Thanks to you and your family for the content, you're my new fav youtuber. It's great to have you as a feller Tennessean.
Probably my favorite RUclips channel right now. This series was very entertaining. I also enjoy the revival car videos and your commercials. Good bless you and your family.
You can ALWAYS count on Jackstand to have an emergency horsepower kit. 😂
😂🙈
That chevelle has definitely earned its keep. What a great week
Fantastic week of driving and racing! Hats off to all of you for a fun and exciting time! If i owned your chevelle after this past week, I might improve upon the rear end drive line and race it only when the right event present's itself. Thanks for sharing all of your great video coverage of sick week!
Derek, your missus (Jessica, if you weren’t sure who I was talking about 😃) is absolutely awesome. Seeing her wrenching along side you make me smile. You are an extremely lucky guy. Thanks for the great videos, I look forward to each and every one.👍
You and your family sir absolutely deserve every bit of good fortune that comes your way. Your hard work and great attitude has earned you these accolades!!
Thank you!!
Thank you for dragging me along.. lol. It's been an interesting adventure following you and ksr. It's my first adventure in the racing field like this.
I got a good sense what America is all about when it comes to vehicles .
Thats so awesome that independence did a 9 in a 1/4mile at 140ish mph... After seen the frame in the 1st episode to where she is now i thank u derrek keep improving her please and thank you
That was so cool. Who knew you're a natural at drag racing? Really enjoyed how you brought it home, down to earth. I actually understood most of what you were doing. Sometimes I was right and other times I learned. TY my friend.
Awesome . . . You've forgotten more about making cars run than I'll ever learn . . . Thanks for great videos . . . I'm an old guy trying to grasp it all . . . probably will have to stay late and even enroll in summer school . . . Grateful you are a good teacher . . .
Independence is a rusty monster!! Great job guys!! Jessica, you rock with the mechanicals!!
I'm kinda surprised that the "James Nitrous Kit" isn't just James laying on your hood whilst free spraying the nitrous bottle into the air intake.
Lmao... that last part made me crack the fuck up
I see you discovered what was going to be plan B.
Dammit man, you made me spit beer!
I could totally see him doing that!
That episode with Ruby had me a little afraid for 'ol Jackstand!
We got a jack stand just ziiiiip tied down for safety here and it’s gonna operate the ol nitrous lol
Dude, please don’t scimp on parts for Independence she deserves the best, she’s not just a car,she stands for much more. But that’s just one fellers opinion. Still great coverage on sick week, thank you.
OMG the drama... if you made the kind of money from youtube he does you also could paint lipstick on a rust bucket pig with a faded flag on it, and then race it!
He shops at orileys he obviously doesn’t care about having the best parts
@@HamSandwitchClips all the parts stores like that sell some questionable stuff.
@@codyramos3200 yea
My wife has been helping me work on cars since the 80s. Its great to have someone to help you out sometimes. She just helped me put a 302 in my 77 mustang II
Although it already said "Independence Runs 9s" in the title I still yelled YESSS!! while watching the actual footage of the run haha
That car definitely DESERVES a nice square tube frame and a patch panel for the quarter for its accomplishments
While I agree that the car deserves it, doing it would defy the whole purpose and idea behind the car.
@CJRock he did pretty good matching the paint on the other parts of the car,
@CJRock it’s pretty easy , lift body off mounts, cut from front section of frame and just basically do 3/4 chassis. Keep the body as is .. and when I say patch panel I mean literally minimal patch panel lol with a sssssss here. And a sss there and done .
@@ritchschut1997 yea understandable but a unit like that deserves it. It will only last so much longer. Rustoleum only slooowws down the carnage lol
Knowing the likely fate of the Independence before Derek got his ham hocks on it made me oddly emotional seeing run in the 9s. It's odd the human ability to connect with automobiles
It exists to move YOU and only YOU control it. It becomes an extension of you.
Both the Chevrolet and MC are awesome… glad you mentioned running 273s on both. 388s or more would make them really scoot down the shoot. 👍👍
Umhh...a monte carlo is a Chevrolet
Great job! Very inspiring to start wrenching on a project. 👍🏻👍🏻
9.73 at 140 with a 3.73 rear end ( I think I heard you mention), and nothing broke. This is a really good testament to the strength of oldDetroit iron! Well done, all involved.
I’m glad you let us ride along with you. I’m sure I can speak for all of your viewers, we appreciate the effort and the videos. Maybe you will see some of us next year
I was wondering if you, Cleeter, PFI and Motion maybe even Demo had considered contacting a company that makes cars, like the diecast NASCAR deals and see if they could produce a line based on Independence, Mullet, Ruby, El Toro, Leroy etc? Just wondering. Might be a fun way to take your merch.
That is a fantastic Idea! Big money maker potential.
Only real problem is they're all independent businesses themselves. But a great idea.
@@mattg7952 They could work together with someone with Matt at Bunker branding to put a series together one would think. I would buy some.
Like Matt. I don't English much.
A feller has never bleep blooped on his digical phone so fast!! God bless ya Derek
I love the puppy dog eyes at the beginning of this event . Last race full onion!!!!! Never stop putting videos out like this . VGG 4 life !
Hi dereck and family.can I thank you for keeping us entertained with such a brilliant channel.thank you from Craig in england.
Bloody excellent Derek!! I would watch a paint job drying video with you in it….hang on, I think I’ve already watched it! Great stuff
That was pretty cool Derek I feel like you should keep that engine in there though. Glad you and Jessica were able to have a fun week together.
I'm thinking 9" swap, with either 3.42 or 3.73 gearing and a locker. That way it's still going to do respectable for burnouts, but also get a lot closer to its full 1/4 mile potential as well! Definitely time for a cage upgrade though!
The best of many petrolhead channels covering sickweek, thanks Derek. We even got to see the lovely Jessica wrenching.
Very freakin cool.👍🏻
It’s amazing how attached I’ve gotten with that old car. When you bought that peace of junk I seriously wondered about your decision making skills. Now…I can’t wait to see what time the old girl will lay down today. Awesome job will the channel and bring back old Independence.
Ran a 9:73 outstanding! Independence rocks!
Well done sir! Thanks for sharing your journey
Bless ya Derek!! What an awesome climax to a fantastic week of drama and power!! That was total entertainment! Congrats, man! What to do with Independence? Well, we can’t let the old girl fade now. Every battle scar tells a story and what stories they are! Patch her up and give her another shot of glory! New seats, headers, rear fender, Dominator fuel injection? Keep on going til the Garlitz museum has to make you an offer! You’re making HISTORY, man!!
Both of these cars are great! How far independence has come is amazing. You sir are great inspiration for the rest of us. Let’s get out there and save some old cars from the scrap bin fellers and fellettes!
Independence showing how everyone can enjoy this sport in a budget!! Love VGG! Thank you Derek and Jess!
🤣🤣🤣 a budget, Derek is a RUclips star. He broke about 15 NHRA rules, but he Dale's tickets. Anyone else would be kicked out
@@Bronco_Billy_Jack_Hills Hell he has Kevin from KSR motor in it. You know that was cheap throw away motor. Hes redone the fuel lines twice in it. 2 different ecu's. Yeah it's a budget build 🤣😭
Well kinda apart from the engine😂😉✌
@@Bronco_Billy_Jack_Hills you dont me, I'm a bit older than Derek,& worked on these piles my whole life. Yeah I could it. But theres nothing about independence, or that monte carlo that is budget. The fella that started this comment section, saying budget must think speed parts like the blower on the monte carlo is cheap.
How fast you wanna go?
How much money you wanna spend?
You guys amaze me . It's so good to see you and your wife goes on a trip togather and being in the same insterst . Good luck and hope you do well. Get plenty s
Get plenty of souvenirs for the kids good luck God bless and be careful
You're work ethic is amazing!
When you opened that NOS jet kit with one hand - I started saying our loud repeatedly: " don't drop it, don't drop it..."
They are a pain to search and rescue out of an engine bay!
