Skif seems to be the most well developed protagonist of the series so far, but let's be real, none of the old protagonists act like back in their games, and the only one understandable who changed is Scar. Strelok gone nuts and obsessive with the Zone to the point it endangered everyone in the Zone itself, he viewed himself as a "guardian angel" of the Zone, but as Skif said, the Zone does not need anyone to protect it, he just wanted the Zone for himself. Degtyarev who was always this calm and aloof soldier, but had a sense humour turned into an aggressive a-hole. Scar is only like this, because he gone through the STALKER program, which drove him mad. As for Skif, he was always in it for himself, but not at the expense of others, did not had ulterior motives or plans for the Zone, he was a simple Stalker who just wanted to have a home again, and got washed up in this.
Just realized Strelok's ending kinda matches the motivation of the Stalker in the Stalker movie by Tarkovsky ; the unnamed Stalker in the story just wants the Zone to be left alone as it gives him a life purpose, while the Professor wants to destroy it. tbh I forgot what the Writer wants with the zone.
Somehow in that like 20 or so years in between games, he kept the same style of hair even though from what we saw in the early games he was balding pretty badly. Clearly zone gave his hair back.
Strelok ended up very eloquent. From the first and third games I got the impression he was something of a survivalist savant that; through the irony of the C-Consciousness sending him out to assassinate himself; the Zone came to love
Strelok ending is the best in my opinion , and its what we like as stalker veterans, but leaving or entering the zone lead to death is kinda bad tbh. For skif i think he walked against the others at the end because all he wanted to get back home but he never got it , so he wanted to die.

basically pretentious graphomania, don't forget that og games spawned tons of books with every writer trying to deepen the lore with their idea of a good plot. kinda makes Strelok's ending the best one since no one will "touch" zone with their ideas lmao
All these fancy cutscenes / blockbuster kind of things are a little bit off tbh. The game wasn't about cinematography and cutscenes. Many years later and 4 days into release I don't even know if I want Stalker 2. I guess this is how it feel to get older and see something familiar to you becoming alien and about things you don't know or associate with. And yeah, I had whole shelf filled with stalker books so I know what you are talking about. As a kid I thought it was a good idea to fill OG with all sorts of shit I've read in the books, that's just how kids are seeing things - the more the better. The grasp of right balance and limits comes with age.

Only one who makes sense to change is Scar, since he was driven mad by the STALKER program. Even S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly, a fan-made game and its devs, got Strelok and even Degtyarev better than the franchise's own developers...
