Thank you so much for being honest. I watch so many RUclips homeschool videos that are so regenerated and scheduled - and maybe they really are THAT out together, but seeing someone be raw and honest about these things is so helpful and honestly such a stress reliever to know I’m not the only one ❤️
This is one of my favorite videos ever made here on YT about homeschool. I feel like I'm looking in the mirror. Thank you so much for sharing this. I struggle so much with this and have all of the same bad habits. This was very relatable and encouraging.
Ummm are you in my head?! I needed this pep talk so much. As a first year homeschool mom I'm constantly struggling between sticking to a schedule and being the free spirit (bc that's part of why we homeschool right!?). Appreciate your channel!
I know this video is two years ago, but I sm thankful for sharing this truth. Thus has been my biggest struggle not beiI don't want to be consistent but I have had to fight through many hardships and trials in my life in general with leaks into my homeschooling.
It is so rare that moms share their weakness and how they deal with it. I cannot begin to tell you how helpful this is!!!! Thank you so much for sharing. 🙂
I struggle with the same! This is sooo encouraging. I was just discussing with my husband that I need to raise my expectations. It’s good to hear your success with consistency and expectations. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!!
This. Is. SOOOO. Encouraging! Thank you. I feel like my daughter's kindergarten year has been almost non-existent because we haven't had a SOLID, whole week of school work AT ALL this whole year.
Ohhhh! Don't beat yourself up! It's okay, especially with a kindergarten year :) I remember that feeling. So, the good thing is is that you can work on progress and improving this coming year. Look back and what you did accomplish with her and grew in :) But I'm so glad I could be encouraging!
"I'm not the only one!!" is all I kept saying during this video! I struggle knowing that my daughter is struggling more than she probably would with reading because of my lack of consistency. Thanks for the encouragement!!
Thank you! I feel like a lot of homeschool advice is meant for type-A moms, such as "don't stress over checking all the boxes" and "go at your own pace", and while those things are true I think I tend to err on the side of maybe being too laid back, so I needed the perspective you shared in this video. One of my daughters is a procrastinater like me, and the other will actually ask to do school and remind me about subjects we still have to finish 😅
Thank you!! I'm really proof you can grow!! Glad I could encourage 💖 But don't put shame on yourself if you don't get more than 3 days! Especially if you have small children. I think a big part of our growth is the age of my kiddos and them growing in their abilities. You can do it!
First year homeschool family here! I have been struggleing with this as well. trying to do like unschooling and child lead learning but somtimes this blolws back on me. i like the idea of blocking our time. Thank you for being so honest about your experience!
I'm in my first official year and I have definitely struggled with this. We started off the school year with my oldest getting a chronic lyme disease diagnosis after an ER visit. It was such a hard thing to deal with. She is doing much better now but not doing school because of sick days has definitely become a habit now. Thank you for sharing!
I am so sorry for the lyme diagnosis :( I have a close friend that has that struggle and I understand it can be tough. Give yourself grace, though. I hope the Lord can give you discernment and wisdom to know the times you need to give her grace versus the times you need to push through with consistency :)
Thank you so much! I needed this! I’ve been struggling so hard. This is our first year to homeschool. I’ve wanted to quit so bad but this was my confirmation to not give up!
Thank you so much for this! I have been having the same thoughts and goals for our homeschool. I am working full time while my husband is in the middle of a career switch and it is so hard to stay consistent. We will have a good month and then i feel like it just takes one doctors appointment or sickness to knock us off our rhythm. I was feeling very isolated and I ike I was the only one struggling. Thank you for sharing and providing a place for mamas to be encouraged!
I'm glad to know this was an encouragement! And remember to give yourself grace! Sometimes we are just in seasons where it is difficult to find a good consistency, and that is okay! Live happens :)
Thanks for being honest. I need to work on learning some of these lessons as well. I too lean towards grace. And while I like that about my parenting, it also leads to trouble with pushing boundaries. Thanks for the tips!
I seriously needed this today. I’ve been feeling like I’ve been slacking and this was the pep talk I needed to hear! And to know I’m not alone with making excuses.
I love how open you are about a struggle and then how you are actively overcoming and doing better! ❤️❤️ You are a mom warrior and I'm here for it! 👏👏👏
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Loved this so so much. So many great tips and such wonderful honesty. This is me for sure. I make so many excuses to not "do school" that we barely get 1 day a week done.
This was so encouraging, and I love the honesty. I sometimes struggle with all three of the things you spoke about. Thank you for being so genuine and sharing your heart and experiences!
This is great! Thank you for being honest and for the tips. This goes right along with your Easily Distracted playlist ( which I foresee needing to watch every year!)
I love this video! Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your struggles with us. We all have them and sharing them with others helps us all learn and grow ❤️
Best video I think I have ever come across on YT. This is my first year and have been struggling just a smidge but want to do so much better, and I think this will help a lot!
This is so good. Last year I worked on consistency too and it was helpful. I still had some rough days where my 10 year old fought me but I held the line and I think this year will be different. The block scheduling helped a lot. Although I didn't do that for the afternoon so maybe this year I can work on that. I need to block out time for rest for myself. I found myself having so much to do once we were done with lessons. Lots to pray about. We start next week. Praying all goes smoothly and Holy Spirit led.🌻
I completely relate! I’ve been realizing I am lacking in down time for myself 😣 Good idea to be in prayer about it. I will being doing that this week. How is your routine going now?
@@JoyfulNoiseLearning Praying for your free time! It's so important and I read it helps with cortisol levels (stress) to read, or walk, or something for yourself. I don't get it everyday but I work hard to find a good 30 minutes or so of quiet. So far our routine is ok. It's different from last year because my oldest is doing different things and more work. Our flow seems consistently inconsistent. Weird, but it seems fine. The consistent thing is Bible and then I work with my 1st grader while my 5th grader does independent work. I check in on her after I'm done with him. It's funny how this year's routine developed on it's own. The one thing I'm loving that was unexpected is my daughter (5th grade) is taking charge of her education and is so independent this year. I'm really impressed with her.♥️
Ashley, very encouraging video!!! 👏 Consistency and being STEADFAST. Those two words have been my JAM this year! I repeat them over and over and over....❤️ I can relate to this so, so much! Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
Love those two words, Jamie! I'm so glad we have both been able to grow in this this year :) Let's keep maturing and growing in steadfastness! Glad you are on this journey with me.
You crack me up lol. Your humor and presentation style is very entertaining. And a lot of your points hit home. It has also helped me to view homeschooling as my "job", knowing that I've chosen for the responsibility for my kid's education to be on my shoulders. I helps me keep my daily priorities straight.
Thank you for sharing! I watched the video a few days ago and felt so connected and finally not like a total failure for putting school aside and of course I want and I try to be consistent “It literally kills me everynight, knowing that I failed that day” BUT your video made me feel that I was not alone in this. Thank you again 💙
We adapt and we are flexible with homeschooling!!! We are about to start a co op!!! My older kids decide what time they do their independent work and we speak about putting it in their routine!!!
I have started to understand my adhd diagnosis and this sounds like me to a T. I can’t believe how long I blamed my personality and mothering versus my neurodivergent traits! Something for other moms to look into if they find themselves being all over the place and getting bored often. It is life changing to understand yourself better
Thank you for this video! It's like your speaking to me. I am not consistent with homeschooling and I know it's hurting my daughter in a long run. I think I find a curriculum that would work well...we do well until the holidays come around and then it totally derails us. Then it's hard to get back into it...and we'd do something else or I'd feel like I'm missing something....so I'd look at other types of curriculum. 🤦♀️ Then its a constant cycle!! Your suggestions are very helpful!!
Yes, the new and flashy and pretty curriculum!!!! Oh, I have to reel myself back because of a. Budget b.will I actually use it? C. Budget!!! Yet, I still manage to waste too much money on new and flashy curriculum...so I hear you...I am still struggling there!!!!
This was a great video with many great points! Totally agree about setting the example for our kids to be responsible and do things even when we don’t want to
I am a lot like you and being consistent is a struggle for me.. maybe that is why unschooling felt like more of a fit for me..But I feel like I am missing doing things with them since my girls all they want to do is to play with barbies...This is my 15 year homeschooling...more unschooling I would say. But I am going to work on being more consistent. I know it will be the best for my girls.
Good tips👍 I am fairly consistent, but I sometimes feel like im not consistent enough, .... Because i compare myself to others. .... yep. I plan out the whole year, not in detail but basics. Sometimes, I erase ALOT and I've learned thats ok. I will write in my planner why I changed something or jot things I'd like to do, or add vocabulary on the fly, and I have a record of it, which I love. (I know thats not for everyone). My daughter thinks is crazy how much I write in that planner spiral. I feel like im getting better at homeschooling by being willing to change things and seeing patterns through this kind of journal planning. We tend to want to skip days during last week of the six week units. This is that ancy-ness before a known holiday or break. I just plan for that and we do school, but just the basics of what we need to finish. That last week includes school 2 tests per unit, but the rest of the week is " not regular school" , ya know, a movie, field trip, life skills, and something fun that relates educationally. I certainly do count it as school.
Thank you for being open with your struggles. I didn't know we are so much alike 😂. This year has been the worst yet with a recent move and a toddler running around messing up everything 🤪. I'm ready to do better next year and your tips are spot on 👍
Aww!!! Thanks for watching, Christie!! 😁😁 Thanks for your kind words. Didn’t realize we were that much a like 😃 You are definitely in a tough season with a toddler around 😬 How old are all your kids now??
Thank you so much for speaking up about this topic. I totally am struggling with this and would love to hear more bite sized Contant on action steps to take to be more consistent in homeschooling. My kids are middle schoolers. I feel this is so so important!
I can totally relate to what you’re saying. There’s a balance, thorough. I’ve skipped days for whatever reason…..when it’s bc you just want a lazy day….maybe not the best example. 😜 but if you’re skipping bc life is literally happening….somebody outside your fam needs you, a spontaneous day trip comes up, … we know what’s legit and what’s not. So consistency and also grace! Yes!! So many things you said, I was like….”yep!! I’ve been there! I’ve said that!” 😂 (honestly, consistency is why I joined classical conversations for so many years, bc I had to be in order to not embarrass myself on the weekly community day - so adding in things that force you to be consistent, help! Like getting a workout partner….another thing I need, but it always helps!!)
I needed to see this it's been like this for me especially since I have a kid in public high school besides my 2 I homeschool and we are so busy with her . I have gotten so laced with screens .
Oh gosh!!!! This hit me hard...I have a hard time with this. I have ruined perfectly good days on my attitude alone. The modeling example feels so hard for me. I often feel so scared because I am not perfect. I struggle. How can I be a good example when I fail so often....aurrgh!!!
That's when you ask for forgiveness! You repent for your attitude and try again. Being perfect isn't what the kids need, but they do need honesty, and they need us to try again. Start fresh each day if we have to.
It was a cloudy, rainy day today and we didn't do school 🤦♀️😂 this made me laugh because it's so real life! I might need to implement block scheduling.
Thanks for being real! I was going by the seat of my pants the last couple years but now that my oldest is heading into third grade I feel we really need to buckle down with a more consistent schedule. We have been doing really well this year actually since January so it's a start. Also whee did your homeschool mom secrets revealed video go? I was about to comment on that one and it's not on your channel? It was hilarious, I found myself nodding and saying "YES" to the reading, pajamas an shower lol. It's so true.
Oops! I hit post too soon. My theory is that in a world of constant changes, it is an asset to be able to do things multiple ways and learn new systems easily. I'm not saying that every family needs to switch curriculum frequently, but sometimes us creative types are teaching our children valuable skills through our outside the norm ways.
I laughed when you said you don’t like doing school on rainy days. 🌧 ☔️ I live in Oregon and I don’t like doing school on sunny days. ☀️ 🕶 Most of our nicest days are in July and August. So I could never completely do year round school.
Thank you so much for sharing this was helpful! I find I struggle with letting my kids feelings and mine be in charge of decisions sometimes. Is there more you can give advice or wisdom on how to overcome that? Also, I like the idea of block scheduling but do you give your kids brain breaks during the school block (like short play time or music videos)?
Love these questions! For the Block Question: YES! Our "blocks" aren't actually as strict as this video made it sound, lol! So, within each block there is also flexibility. That's when you can use your adaptability muscle and gauge your kids on what they need. So you can throw in brain breaks, play break, etc when you think like they need it, OR you can think through your day and anticipate when they normally needs those breaks and put them in your routine. I actually do play/brain breaks in between our blocks and that has helped tremendously! As far as the feelings being in charge, that's a tough one. I have been reading a lot of books that have encouraged me in that. I have also done a lot of courses with Mystie Winckler from Simply Convivial. She has encouraged me SO much in this area. I will try to get back to you with a book list. :) The two books that comes to mind easily is "You Who" by Rachel Jankavich, and "Suffering is Not for Nothing" by Elisabeth Elliot. I hope this helps!
I'm with you on the curriculum switching. My opinion is that if your child was bored and just going through the motions of the curriculum and not engaged, then a switch should help. Keep in mind what your goals are for your homeschool. What is most important? Using one curriculum all year and finishing it because it is cheaper and makes you feel like a good teacher or keeping subjects engaging and meeting your child's unique needs? A lot of curriculum is boring, and creative teachers and students have trouble sticking with it all year. Schools don't have a choice. but we do. Many great teachers supplement and some barely use their required textbooks. Finishing a book a year doesn't necessarily mean success. Switching a curriculum doesn't mean that you are a quitter. You didn't quit math, etc. You changed strategies. I have a new theory that to prepare for a world of constant changes, it is an asset to
Oh, my! I love this perspective! And I totally see what you are saying here. And actually I DO totally agree that there is a time and place to switch curriculum. I know that in this video it may have come across that I meant we should always "finish the book". Actually I do agree that being adaptable and flexible is good, but what I was hitting on in this video is that there is a time and a place to work on discipline and not switch so much. Some of my kids benefit okay from switching, but I do have one that really THRIVES on consistency and routine, and he's definitely challenged my methods. Again, I love your perspective. I think it's the other side to this coin 💖
Omg I beat myself up for this so much. I've been the same, trying to be lax but then it just doesn't get done. Thanks for sharing these relatable struggles. 🤣🤣🤣 '...lets skip school'

YES! I 100% agree, Kayleigh!!! And you can totally learn to cope with those traits! Not to be perfect, but to grow and learn :)
YES. All the time, Laura.

Than you for your kind words! I'm happy to be an encouragement 💖
This was a great video with many great points! Totally agree about setting the example for our kids to be responsible and do things even when we don’t want to
That was HUGE for me to learn. Thank you for watching!
I dooo admire them tooo!
Yes, please talk about being consistent with curriculum.
Okay, I'll try 😆
This is a great video! Thank you for being so honest. I can totally relate to this.
I’m glad you get it 😁
Thank you for being open with your struggles.
@@JoyfulNoiseLearning 13, 11, 8, 5, and 2. It's very hard to be consistent right now, lol!! It's getting slightly easier, though.
Thank you so much for speaking up about this topic. I totally am struggling with this and would love to hear more bite sized Contant on action steps to take to be more consistent in homeschooling. My kids are middle schoolers. I feel this is so so important!
Glad you can relate! And, oh boy, middle schoolers are fun, yet tough!
YES YES! Love all that, Rachel :) We are so much alike 💖
I needed to see this it's been like this for me especially since I have a kid in public high school besides my 2 I homeschool and we are so busy with her . I have gotten so laced with screens .
I'm so glad this was encouraging! I hope you can find a good plan that works for you and your kiddos. :) It's tough!
Wonderful video! Definitely helpful. Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you ❤
Another comment, I know. I have so missed watching your videos. You are such an encouragement - THANK YOU. 💜
Thanks SO much, Bethany! I’m honored ☺️☺️💗💗💗
I needed this 🙌🏻
This is very encouraging. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This video spoke to my core!! I struggle sooo much with consistency and I know I beat myself up about it. Thank you so much for the encouragement :)
Thank you! I'm glad I could encourage you!
You are spot on!! Thanks for the video!
Thank you! 💖
Thank you so much for this video!!! I really need this, its going to help me a lot
Glad I could encourage you! 😃
@@JoyfulNoiseLearning Thank you ❤️
You are such a blessing sis thanks for this I subscribed 💓
Thanks for subbing! Welcome!
I really needed to hear this... Thank you 🤗
Glad it was helpful! 💖
It was a cloudy, rainy day today and we didn't do school 🤦♀️😂 this made me laugh because it's so real life! I might need to implement block scheduling.
Oh that's funny! 😆 Thanks for sharing and making me laugh.
This is soooo good. It’s so true 100%. All of it!
Ha ha! Thank you!
It's still there! Here's the link for it: ruclips.net/video/-XZJBQyDo38/видео.html
@@JoyfulNoiseLearning oh funny! I thought it was a recent video but it was last years haha. Either way it was great lol
I so needed to hear this. Thank you thank you.
😍😍😍
I live in Oregon and I don’t like doing school on sunny days. ☀️ 🕶 Most of our nicest days are in July and August. So I could never completely do year round school.
🤣🤣🤣 Oh boy!!
Continuously working on this. Thanks for the encouragement!
You got this! Thanks for watching!
Great video mama! So helpful!!!
Thank you so much, Gina!! :) I didn't realize it was going to be so hot a topic!
@@JoyfulNoiseLearning thank you so much!
This was a fantastic video and I really appreciate it a lot as I struggle with consistency as well.
Thanks for your reply, and I"m glad that you get it.🙂
I see what you are saying about a child that wants more consistency. I've been there too.🙂
Omg I beat myself up for this so much. I've been the same, trying to be lax but then it just doesn't get done. Thanks for sharing these relatable struggles.
🤣🤣🤣 '...lets skip school'
😆💜
You just described me to a T! I needed this video thank you!!!!
You are SO welcome! Glad you can relate.
I love this!!! Are we the same person? Seems like it lol great job mama!
Ha ha! Yes! So glad you relate :) Thanks!!!
Thank u
Yes! Great talk. 😊
Yay, thank you!
I need to work on all these same things.
I'm glad you can relate. ☺️
What’s your list for them??
My checklist for their school or their chores?
