Thank you so much for this; I'm about to house sit for a friend with 2 military macaws, one of which is lovingly referred to as Mama's Demon, and is so used to being toweled by anyone who isn't Mama, she just lands on the towel, when you hold it up. I don't need her to love me, but I do need her to not murder me.
(Long but worth a read) Listen, I have to say, your video's are life savers. Not just for us, but mainly for these beautiful birds. I've only had a couple of small parrots & three days ago we saw two African Grey's at a shop. My wife's mother wanted one for years. As we we're purchasing one for her, we decided to take one ourselves since I'm in awe of them, as one of my friends has two. Unfortunately I never did any research beforehand. As soon as we came home and for the next three day's I've watched hours and hours of your video's, I'm lucky I did cause you saved me & the Grey that we gave to my mother in-law. My grey is an absolute charm, calm and just beautiful. Both 4 month's old. The other one became absolutely erratic!! Aggressive, unpredictable & even violent. She called me and asked if I can take him out of the house back to the store, she was afraid of him. As I went to pick him up he didn't stop hissing at me, trying to bite and just unsettled. I had to use a stick to pick him off his cage and had a bit of a war getting him inside. In the car he just wanted to break through the cage and kill me. I thought as soon as I get home (good vibes) he'd see his sister and relax, but the opposite happened, he kept trying to attack and mine was not having it and literally jumped to my shoulder. So once again I took a stick, this time putting him in my cage. He was sooo erratic. Luckily the same day I bought a clicker to train my bird the way I watched you guys do for so many hours. I went and got the clicker and chopstick & within a half hour of working with him, he went from trying to break through the cage to letting me pet his head, relax & sleep. It was incredible. Thank you sooo much for these amazing video's! I have no idea what would have happened to him if I couldn't of calmed him down. Again thank you!!!

I love you guy's 😍💗💛 I have 2 eclectus who turned 1 ys old in JANUARY. We took our bird to florida for the winter now back at home. We treat them as our children. We love them. Starting to talk with sweet soothing sounds. We have not clipped their wings but notice lately when we leave them out of the cage flying n diving occurs.
Bethany Bond Cheyenne pucks due to severe stress in her previous home, and her feathers won't grow back because the follicles have basically given up growing feathers. Even BirdTricks can't help biology :( but the great thing is Cheyenne and Emily have a wonderful relationship. Her birdie bank account is full!
this video came just in time! my African Grey Chauko is sick :/ me and my mom took him to the vet twice this week, I held him and gave him away to the evil vet to preform exams on him many times while we watch him - how humiliating 👿🍴⚔️. now his trust is 30% me 30% my mom which is pretty awful, but I think it’s an important reality check for me and my mother to learn and set our relationship up for success. this is really helpful for us to gain his trust back. awesome video! thank you.
Just like to say thanks all you’re tips have helped got @ ringneck a month ago 9 months not tame frustrated at first because she would have nothing to do with us now she comes to us and following you’re tips has progressed her interaction. Most videos start with a bird sitting on you’re hand and this can be frustrating found it’s best to to be patient and new things happen every day

I left my parrot with my mother for a weekend. My mother loves tea. She is boiling water in the tea kettle every other hour. Of course, she puts the birds away because it’s a hot tea kettle, and now my birds have realized that whenever the tea kettle whistle goes, at least one of us gets up in a hurry. Now, my birds have started mimicking the tea kettle. I’m talking highest, loudest, longest scream that can possibly come out of his 100g bird body. If you were skeptical, birds 100% learn vocalization in a heightened state.
I’ve noticed that Monty is making a vocalization that mimics the clicker when he gets his treat however right before he grabbed the target stick more aggressively he didn’t speak when he had received the treat from the previous rep
Great video. I think I need to try the same process with my Amazon and kids. The Amazon does great for me but goes into overload and loses focus with me if kids get too close while I'm training him. He knows he can intimidate & scare them, especially the 5 yr old. It'd be nice for my girls to be able to handle him like Capri does with Bondi!

my military macaw lives in an outside enclosure and he has been paranoid of his feet and wings due to the buyer we got him from years ago and he has just now warmed up up to us being near his feet but is still very paranoid
and here's another request for you. how does music affect your birds. what music calms them down? birds love tunage and I keep a radio near my birds with soft rock on 12 hrs per day.

I'm adopting a mili, worst case happened when I was went to meat the milis, one of them flew off his perch and started attacking me. I was use to the bird who did this yet it threw me off for my interaction with the mili I am adopting. I'm having a hard time reading her body language. Flushing cheeks, is she ready to switch up arms, does she like the step up bridge.... A million questions this helped some. ❤
Bev La Fave use a different tool as a target, or start by training your bird to just be near the target. Try holding the treat right at the end of the stick. If you're worried about fingers, try using a chopstick that you can notch to hold a treat at the end.
I think on session 3 that Monty will be on top of the cage while being targeted with the husband...? Not sure whether that's safe yet, and I'm sure there's many more steps in between but that's my best guess aha.

We got her after the other bird Kiwi about a year later. About Kiwi! He is two and we got him a year before Sunni. He knows how to step up and only bites when threatened. They also share a cage! What if they would LOVE it? Does they do that in nature ? I am going to get a parrot soon and want to know as much as possible before i buy one.
Generally speaking, parrots from the rain forrest/South America doesn't need or take sand baths, but birds from Africa or Australia does it. The behaviors and needs are simply formed by the environment they come from and evolved in. 😉
Try different treats or training methods. He might not like the treats you are offering or the method you are using. Try for example teaching him target training, this way you can bond with him better and it can also be useful for training later. And in general don't give up! My parrotlet was severely abused when I got him, it took me about two and a half year to get him to take a treat out of my hand and now, a little over three years after I got him, he trusts me enough to come near my hand. With a lot of patience you can do it.

My two cents: Budgies (especially rescues) tend to be more skittish and trickier to tame, and even once tame are typically not very cuddly with people. However, they can't do very much damage with that beak (though their pinches can be painful tbh). They are noisy, but not loud (near constant stream of chatter vs SCREAMS). They really do best when kept in pairs, but that also complicates taming. Because of their small size, you can give them a proportionally much larger cage for much less $$$. Ringnecks are louder, and more capable of injuring you. They're much more likely to talk and mimic, but I find them a bit temperamental. They'll be easier to switch onto veggies than budgies. A good sized flight cage for then will be more expensive. This is what I've picked up from volunteering at a rescue for 2+ years. I'd recommend looking for a rescue and seeing if they would let you help out for a few weeks or months before committing to a species.
Plus punishment usually isn’t very effective with birds. It’s adding something to the situation like spraying the bird with a bottle when they do something wrong or yelling at them, etc. minus punishment usually works much better, taking away something. So say your bird is doing something negative, the favorite person could leave the room and that would be minus punishment

to calm your birds down you can also try classical music or "angel music" on you tube. absolutely no metalica or heavy metal, studies show it can really screw up your birds.
once your birds are calm, then play them some happy upbeat rock tunes they can bop around to that will get them some exercise and make them happy. absolutely no negative music, but you all let us know how that goes. singing to your birds kiddie song or reassuring songs is great too for those who are musically inclined.
So Jamie; does making a big deal out of seeing your bird before getting it out get dangerous?😳 Obviously it isn't a good time to train with the husband in the case of the video. For you and Jinx though, why did it affect Jinx' relationship with Dave? HI I’m looking for a goulash McCaw. Looking for a broader. I don’t want to adopt a bird. I’ve done it many many times. I had a bird for 34 yrs that I raised her from a hatchling. She was a double yellow head A,mammon. They as you know are EuroGYN one person in the house pets. I need a more calming bird that is more giving to a multi family member household. I don’t want another Amazon. Ive had green checked. Ive had many contours and love birds, I don’t like grays because they often have that loud cry scream like. BABY. MAYBE IOT Was from the broader I used in San Diego Fine Friends. I believe they were called its been a long Imtestional. They were in North park, Great store great breeders trustworthy smart owners. I raised her Billie Girl from a hatchling and she passed away July 31st. Its hard to be without a bird. I have had birds several and all my life since I was 19. I am 64 and miss my friend terribly. I feed my birds with chop and treat with seed. Feed pellets for other meals. I know a good deal about birds and have had m,any. I had to leave her with my brother and he changed her diet without asking me and I brought hom everything explained everything etc. So I am looking for a broader. Can you help me please?
Military Macaws being one person birds? At some point this has to be a learned behavior, either by naturally building a bond with just one person or by the stereotype that subconsciously controls how people interact. I would actually think just the opposite- that they would be very social. But I know nothing and am here to learn.
you can also tell your bird "calm, ooooom, calm" in a very soft voice. you guys are not keeping your voices soft and calm all the time. soft, calm, relax, chillax. my birds now say chillax. when you say a word you form an emotion and a picture in your mind to the bird. you communicate to your birds thru mental pictures. ask a pet psychic. in fact, you should do these with a bird psychic and you would get a whole lot more bang for the buck. soft voice. calm, easy, chillax birdie. I would like to see you redo these videos with a pet psychic and see how your training improves.

This is what I've picked up from volunteering at a rescue for 2+ years. I'd recommend looking for a rescue and seeing if they would let you help out for a few weeks or months before committing to a species.

Plus punishment usually isn’t very effective with birds. It’s adding something to the situation like spraying the bird with a bottle when they do something wrong or yelling at them, etc. minus punishment usually works much better, taking away something. So say your bird is doing something negative, the favorite person could leave the room and that would be minus punishment

They’re a species of macaw based on their origin and coloration 😀 you’ll see them a lot in parts of Mexico.

to calm your birds down you can also try classical music or "angel music" on you tube. absolutely no metalica or heavy metal, studies show it can really screw up your birds.
once your birds are calm, then play them some happy upbeat rock tunes they can bop around to that will get them some exercise and make them happy. absolutely no negative music, but you all let us know how that goes. singing to your birds kiddie song or reassuring songs is great too for those who are musically inclined.
So Jamie; does making a big deal out of seeing your bird before getting it out get dangerous?😳 Obviously it isn't a good time to train with the husband in the case of the video. For you and Jinx though, why did it affect Jinx' relationship with Dave? Just curious whether this is situation dependent or case by case because I sing, dance and go crazy to see my Goffin (thinking it made her feel special) but is that dangerous because of the 0-100 energy/craziness with 'toos? (Btw I know I keep anthropomorphizing, idk how else to describe this though). 😬

HI I’m looking for a goulash McCaw. Looking for a broader. I don’t want to adopt a bird. I’ve done it many many times. I had a bird for 34 yrs that I raised her from a hatchling. She was a double yellow head A,mammon. They as you know are EuroGYN one person in the house pets. I need a more calming bird that is more giving to a multi family member household. I don’t want another Amazon. Ive had green checked. Ive had many contours and love birds, I don’t like grays because they often have that loud cry scream like. BABY. MAYBE IOT Was from the broader I used in San Diego Fine Friends. I believe they were called its been a long Imtestional. They were in North park, Great store great breeders trustworthy smart owners. I raised her Billie Girl from a hatchling and she passed away July 31st. Its hard to be without a bird. I have had birds several and all my life since I was 19. I am 64 and miss my friend terribly. I feed my birds with chop and treat with seed. Feed pellets for other meals. I know a good deal about birds and have had m,any. I had to leave her with my brother and he changed her diet without asking me and I brought hom everything explained everything etc. So I am looking for a broader. Can you help me please?

Military Macaws being one person birds? At some point this has to be a learned behavior, either by naturally building a bond with just one person or by the stereotype that subconsciously controls how people interact.
I would actually think just the opposite- that they would be very social.
But I know nothing and am here to learn.

you can also tell your bird "calm, ooooom, calm" in a very soft voice. you guys are not keeping your voices soft and calm all the time. soft, calm, relax, chillax. my birds now say chillax. when you say a word you form an emotion and a picture in your mind to the bird. you communicate to your birds thru mental pictures. ask a pet psychic. in fact, you should do these with a bird psychic and you would get a whole lot more bang for the buck. soft voice. calm, easy, chillax birdie. I would like to see you redo these videos with a pet psychic and see how your training improves.
