- On October 31, I flew on Delta's 777 retirement flight. The ride from New York to Los Angeles was the last passenger/revenue flight for their entire fleet. Although I was seated in an aisle, I got to enjoy the celebration just as much as those in a window seat.
Delta had originally never planned to retire the 777 so soon, but due to the current pandemic, the airline wanted to reshape its heavy aircraft. Delta’s fleet of 18 777 was the backbone for their super long haul flights (Africa, Asia, Australia).

I also say the same. I am going to prefer to the Boeing 777 for ever. A great plane. I am too lover of the boeing 777. The best airplane of the aviation history.

Sad to see such great aircraft with a brand new cabin go so fast. Will miss seeing the 777 in the sky for delta. I hope the 767 is at least there with delta for a few more years. The 767s and 777s have always been some of my favorite heavies, so well made, so stable. Thanks for bringing the experience to us Quintin, wish I could have been there, great vid!

Another thing is one of the 777s that was retired was only 10.7 years old. Sad a plane that new is being retired. The oldest one was 21.7
@@RocketAnthem I'm like they shelled out all that money... only for it to go to waste. United did a similar thing with some of the ex-Continental 757's. Since those are narrow though and could pinch hit for some heavies, hopefully a number will come out of the boneyard.

I flew on a Delta 777 from LAX to Tokyo (Narita) in 2011. My best flight ever. I will surly miss this magnificent airplane.

Update: Some Delta 777’s are now belong to Air India and the other half are being converted to freighters for possibly FedEx

It was such a good flight. I was seated a couple rows ahead of you in 51C (I'm the guy with the Blue BYU Hat). Definitely, one I will NEVER forget.
I was only able to catch the landing and takeoff after your flight completed. It was a beautiful takeoff into a beautiful sunset. Appropriate for the moment. Thanks for sharing your experience onboard.

Yes, flying into LAX is always nice looking at all the hotels close by the airport. It is a big airport with lone walks to many flights. But thank you for sharing...

I flew on the 777-200 many times to NRT on Delta and I will truly miss the ER and LR what great memories.

I watched most of the flight from JFK to LAX and then all of the flight from LAX to Victorville on flightradar. Farewell to my second favorite Boeing aircraft and favorite airlines 777.
I was there at the ramp for this flight. She was beautiful
flew ship 7104 from PVG-ATL in january, the 14 hour flight was a breeze in the delta 777 cabin... never thought that was the very last time i would sit in one

They're not designed to accelerate, and it probably (usually) takes much longer than that. EACH of those engines puts out a thrust equivalent of around 110,000HP so...

I’m told by a Delta employee in a position to know that part of the reasoning for this early retirement of its 777 fleet is that the type was coming up on a major scheduled maintenance milestone who’s expense could be avoided through early retirement - kinda like big companies giving golden parachutes to high paid executives.
