This is what Adam described as the scariest moment while making the show, and if you look closely, you can see a big part of the reason why: the car had been owned by a heavy smoker, and it turned the water brown, murky, and he couldn't see. Then he put the safety diver's regulator into his mouth upside down, and it squirted water into his lungs, which sounds horrible at the best of times. That's why he's coughing so badly when he breaks the surface again.

I know Adam survives all of Mythbusters, but that apparently doesn't stop me from fearing for his life in episodes like these. Though I have to admit I worried about his safety diver more when he didn't show up on the surface when Adam did. Knowing that he was actually struggling with his seatbelt really doesn't do much to set my mind at ease. I'm reasonably sure that in an every day situation where this car would've hit the water with its passengers in those spots, both of them would've died. That's a scary thought.
Absolutely.
As another commenter mentioned above, the car was owned by a smoker, and the crew had to clean hundreds of cigarette butts out of the car before filming. You can actually see the years of ash and filth unearthing from the upholstery when the car goes under. With the driver blinded by the polluted water, and the passenger (also blinded) locked upside-down in their seatbelt without anything to cut them out, if this was two unsuspecting people they both would definitely have died, and that is chilling.
Even knowing this was years ago, and Adam is fine, I still found myself unintentionally holding my breath for that entire sequence.
Nevermind the risk of concussions, water and drowning - I was worried for the safety diver staying upside down, pretty much standing on his head. Do you see how red his face gets there? That didn't look very pleasant, to put it lightly.. Oo"

Stereo to mono extension is great when the narrator wants to whisper in my right ear

For testing shooting through the milk carton, they could have just loaded the gun with 2 bullets... Shoot it once, if the room doesn't blow up, shoot the second round to see if it will.

I was thinking the gun wouldn't set off the gas. The ignition of the powder and the muzzle blast are just to quick. Now with sustained fire I could see it being more plausible or maybe using a tracer round. An old flint lock might due the trick too.

that's because back then the audio recording didn't account for viewers watching on our phones and listening with Bluetooth earpiece or headphones. hence the one sided audio.
Only thing i can comment on is how much talking was going on during the sinking process. While its semi realistic if you had someone else youd be freaking out feeding off each other, i think theres also the factor of you know what you/or you both need to do, brief communication (under 20 seconds all you need to pass over is waiting till cars full) then silence and focus to pay attention to changes to maximize odds. Aside that though always loved the show.

He already knew for a fact it wouldn't help one bit.

While I do agree, I also think like...well like you said if you had someone else in the car or if you were alone you'd probably just panic.
It's easy viewing this and seeing what he should have done, but I think any of us have been in a stressful situation and gone afterwards "man I should have done this instead".
We just don't work well under mortal danger and tend to act irrational. This shows itself differently in all people, some flail, some start talking endlessly. Minmaxing (even if it is what you HAVE to do) sometimes doesn't even cross people's mind in a time like that, cus the only thought they have is that "oh my god I am gonna die" and "I want to live". It takes a real professional or someone with steely nerves to execute steps properly like that...well either that or someone who randomly expected they were gonna drown in a car at this day at this very second and came prepped with all the steps to prevent that proper.
In fact him messing around really just proved how much terror something like this instills even when it's mostly in a controlled enviornment. (Not disagreeing with you btw, Mythbusters is a TV show afterall and he is a TV presenter, so there was never a chance of him not talking during this, it is weirdly more human that way though hahaha!)

yes being upside down is disorientating, but the side windows are still easy to find and push a window popper against!

Basic Diving yes of course anyone can extremely easily lose up under water. It's a fact and something all Divers must train to navigate. A pool in perfect light with nothing about you is no test.
Audio's really borked on this one, not only is the narrator to one side, but is it just me or are the sound effects really loud too?
Just open the windows when the car floods. Even automatic windows keep on working when under water.
They actually tried that in the original myth.
No you can't. The water pressure will stuck the window.
That right there @36:08 is why I have a light phobia against pressure vessels and gas in general....that started way before I worked at a company that worked exclusively with gasses.

I think he shot through the milk to stop the lighter from working and has nothing to do with the flash of the muzzle

I have 2 ears and are forced to would be the logical answer but, i bet u mean, why my computer only plays in stereo.
The answer to that is , cause i dont know a way to get my browser to play videos in mono. or to more precise in right side speaker channel only.
@@QuadDerrick ... wow.. ok. I'll help you. Search "audio equalizer extension" and install the one that has the ability to make mono/stereo channels. you'll be able to eq anything also. its nice to bass boost things

Nah, that's just rumors.
At 45:16 narrator says adam does not wearing a diver's mask, but we see that he is in fact wearing one at 45:32 (his hair showing this clearly) and again at 47:13
Clearly this was shot many times, also the cameraman was OP while trained diver was having a difficult time.
Also he might not have been wearing a mask for the test. However once he had "died" then there was no point for him not to. It could have been a pick up shot though
Why didn't he open the windows and make the water get in faster, so he could leave faster without wasting air while it sank fully? I feel like it is still possible, and their weights and bouys actually made it more difficult for them. They could have used the bottom of the lake to be a real world scenario, but at a shallower depth. OH well..
You cannot roll a window down when it has several thousand KG of pressure pushing down over it. This is why he ends the episode saying he will never go in a car again without a window breaker.

Firstly the show ended many years ago. Secondly - yeah, kinda true. Maybe not in data ammount measurements, but in terms of range or actions happening, many of which are highly illegal
No, that's wrong. You're confusing the dark web and the deep web. 2 very different things. What you are describing is the "deep web" which is any website that isn't found by a search engine. You could very well make your own website, as long as you don't make it visible to a search engine, congratz your website now belongs to the deep web. Which is absolutely massive. A part of that deep web is then known as the "dark web" which is similiar to a website that belongs in the deep web where it's not found by a search engine but the contents of it is to share illegal contents, whatever that may be.
