Ludwig Keystone X Pro Beat Shell Pack Review

  • Nick D'Virgilio presents the Ludwig Keystone X Pro Beat shell pack. A great combination of mounted tom, floor tom, and bass drum shells for recording and live performance, the Keystone X Pro Beat Shell Pack delivers a pre-EQed sound that's bigger than life and hard to drown out with cymbals. That's because Ludwig used a combination of maple and oak plies to provide each drum with added punch and projection. Add to that their ATLAS tom suspension mounts and low-profile Mini-classic lugs, and you've got the core of a drum kit that sounds and looks amazing.

    This was shot the same time they demoed the cymbals. Xsrs. That video is the one that convinced me to go with the Sabian xsr series.

      Yes …. and no. What they did is that they realized the hit they had with this line so the continue making them, but rebranded them as the Classic Oak line. They ramped up the finishing touches so with that, the price point as well. Basically , you got away buying them for cheaper under the “Keystone X” name.
      Same exact shell though.
      The best sounding Ludwigs in my opinion. I’m about to order a set … but I’ll be paying more than you did 🤨☹️🤣

      @@weezypeezy4366 they really are the best sounding ones. I just added a 18” floor Tom. I ordered the classic oak. Luckily they kept my finish. I really love these drums. They record great also.

    All the commenters complaining about hearing the drums in context of music makes no sense. Yes, we want to hear them alone, and we do. But to have an idea how they will sound in music, it helps to hear them with music. Nick even plays a few different styles that he thinks the kit is well suited for. (Actually, I think this kit would be great for Big Band jazz too, but he can’t demo everything at once.) These demos are fun because he speaks and plays so well, but they are not meant for drum-geek entertainment. They are to help shoppers figure out what they need. And how many Sweetwater drum shoppers need “solo drums”? What we need is drums to play in the context of music. He’s doing his job right, and y’all are complaining about it.

    Lol,people want you to play drums without music.For most people who are buying gear at this level, the point is to get and use them as a working drummer playing with a band.Keep up with the music,my opinion!!!Working drummer myself,50 years and still going.

      You win no matter which Keystone model you buy. I have th e 2013 Pro-Beat model and I love playing them with my band as well as with my Vic Firth headphones with some Zepplin going. They really inspire the Bonham-side of my playing. They give me exactly the sound I have in my head, which is ideal. Nick is describing the sound exactly. They sound as good in reality as they do on the video, with even more body in reality. I use Remo Vintage E's on the toms and a Remo S K 4 clear on the kick. My neighbors hate me:)

    • @drumfanatik316
      @drumfanatik316 7 лет назад

      They changed the lugs for one. The previous model had a weird design specific to the Keystones. The previous model also used the ATLAS Mounts for floor tom legs. They changed this as well but still used the isolation mount technology so the floor tom would resonate more. Lastly, I believe they also changed the claw hooks and maybe the badge? The shells as far as I can remember stayed the same? I just bought one and they sound AWESOME!!!

    Still waiting for the day for Ludwig to start competing in the big league again. Suppose if they stopped blowing their money on constantly redesigning their lugs and cranked up the quality on their overseas product, they might eventually be able to afford to produce a reasonably priced upper mid-range kit. I mean the Keystone X kits, bar the 3pc outfits, cost as much as their Classic Maple kits, but do not receive the same attention to detail. The sound is still legendary though.

    This and Steve Maxwell are the best two channels for drummers.
    Steve doesn’t use music in his demonstrations....thankfully .
    Remember, everyone has a different taste in music, so it’s best not to use it.
    Most just want to hear the drums...even less cymbals.

  • @roybeckerman9253
