Yes, that is absolutely the way it should be. But don t think lightly, it requires a lot of energy, involvement, creativity, intelligence, health, love and time from the parents, and therefore, it is not given to everyone. Sadly, so many parents are dismissive…it is so easy to delegate and wash your hands. My kids went to small private schools (as I always worked like a bull, dedicating my life to medicine and research, I am a Dr) and I am overall satisfied with the whole thing. I would never have put them in this crushing machine of public school system. But it is another topic 🙂

We've been homeschooling in MO since 2005. I love hearing from others who have similar ideas about educating their children. I've only got 3 left in school, ages 15, 14, and 12. Those days of keeping little ones busy so the middle aged kids can work...whew! Looking back, I realize how much work it was. I didn't really realize it then. It was just life. It has definitely felt like spring lately. I'm glad the calf was born on a good weather day. We have bunnies due tonight. Momma is a Flemish Giant and wasn't a good Momma with her first babies. We are praying she will catch on this time. We don't have another doe nursing at this time like we did with her last ones.
Praying for a great week for y'all, Kreke family. God bless!

I came across this article when researching catechism, and God greatly used it to bless me! Apparently, in the1800’s, the children were vastly ahead of our children. So much so, that the top minds at our ivy leagues cannot pass the standard test for eighth grade back then. The difference was the teaching methods, they use to teach HOW to think, not WHAT to think. There was a woman back then, who used The Bible as her only textbook, and taught her son 4 hours a day only using The Bible. He entered college in 8 grade. God really showed me that he’s the one who will determine who or what our children will be, and we our responsible for keeping their eyes on him. It’s been a real fellowship to see you using these same ideas with your children, and I enjoy being able to glean from your experiences. Many blessings, May God continue to use you, and bring forth much fruit from your walk!

Are you kidding me in the 1800s kids barely went to school..that was only for the rich they WORKED in factories and on farms they couldn’t afford to read or write..I love my God but pls stop spreading misinformation to these good people kids these days are 10x ahead becuz uk there’s laws on that “no child left behind”…and crazy I’ve never heard of that story seems like it’ll been all over the news of her reading the Bible which lacks mathematics, social studies, etc…uk things ur child need to get into college…I look at the Bible everyday even I find that far fetched. Stop mixing God with education it’s weird

@@synivy4576 I’m not sure why my post has caused such hate in your response, but it’s a pretty prideful person that assumes someone is lying just because they haven’t heard the information themselves. I’m not sure why you think I would take time out of my busy day to spread lies, but I ASSURE you as someone who loves The Truth, I’m repeating information that I came across looking into catechism style teachings. As far as people in the 1800’s being barely educated, that is certainly not the case, and you’re the one spreading misinformation in this instance. As for you reading The Bible daily, that’s wonderful! It’s a shame you haven’t come to find the knowledge you believe it lacks. I can assure you, yet again, it does contain EVERY bit of that knowledge, and more. Those that TRULY love God finds ways to glorify him in EVERYTHING.

Love how you have group subjects but also allow each child as they grow to lean into their gifts and interest ! I also LOVE that you have them learn cursive… both my girls went to private Christian school and were taught cursive. A lot of schools public and even private have done away with that and I think that’s so sad because… I think it’s something that is important and an art that is being lost… very sad. So thankful my girls didn’t miss out on it. Sending 🙏 and ❤️ to the Kreke family 🏡 PS…. Everett looks so content snuggled up to you 🥰

It is SO HELPFUL to hear others ideas. My 2nd son was struggling with "science" and loves outside/animals/farming/hunting. So, I have him doing what Bella is doing. It's going so much better :-) Also, tell Bella that's one of our favorite hymns she played at the end. "Hallelujah, What A Savior!" Our oldest son, 14, has been our church pianist for over 2 yrs now. From a former public school music teacher, music is SUCH A BLESSING. I grew up with it in my family, in our bones, as my dad was a church music minister. Blessings to you and your family. Congrats on your calf, she's so beautiful. I love how simple your homeschool is. I started later. My oldest was in the 8th grade when I began and I have never gotten big group lessons to go well. My older kids always fell asleep. So, I do a lot of small group lessons, and then really spend the day on math lessons for the older kids and reading lessons with the younger kids with some science and history for the younger than high school kids, which I somewhat combine. I wished that I homeschooled from the beginning. It is one of my biggest regrets and not because my oldest kids made poor decisions, they have not, but because I missed all of those days with them.

I love your approach to education! My daughter went to 3 years of Montessori pre-school and to Montessori kindergarten before entering the public school system and I noticed a huge difference in the instructional approach. Montessori teaches to student’s abilities and interests also. Public (and even most private) schools are too rigid. I also hate the emphasis in public schools on standardized testing - we have the Republican party (George W Bush in particular) for that debacle.

Im down sizing the amount of work we do. We are switching to unit studies that have all subjects included but math. I plan on adding extra language arts. This mama is tired subject for math, La, Science ect. I figure this way it will be a new topic new books every month. Im hoping it takes stress of me and they will enjoy learning more than what they currently are. Homeschooling is definitely a process and figuring out what works for everyone.

Unfortunately I had a work related accident (car wreck) and have been disabled since (age 23). I'm 50 now, so a long time, but anyhoo, back to my original question. LOL ;)

May I ask. How would your children show their qualifications? Here in the UK in our version of High School children take GCSEs, our youngest has just finished his at 16. Dependent on his results, grade A to C they go on to choose Advanced subjects. You can't do the 2nd IN school without the first. To get onto a chosen University course children would need 3 Advanced exam results at whatever grade depending on that course. Very interested.

Make the curriculum work for you, split lesson into two and take it slower if you need, if your kid is doing well with a concept skip some of the activities. If your kid is struggling over all maybe they need to go down a level if they are flying through and it's easy maybe go up.
