    We found a way to use our DIY/woodworking skills to make an improvement to our xTool M1 Laser Cutter's exhaust. It actually worked. 😃

    An ingenious way to solve the smoke and odor problem with your M1 Laser. Having those good looking assistants must have made your job easier. The little one is a cutie pie. ( Not to imply that the older helper isn't a cutie pie also). (I don't mean Old, just older than the little one). I'm gonna stop now.

      Hilarious response as always. Truth is... i find myself having to stop because I dig a hole for myself all the time, which makes your comment that much funnier. In the end, i agree they are both cutie pies.

    Hi Both,
    That is a fantastic solution that Heath Robinson would have been proud of.
    I take it that your garage door stops automatically when it comes up against resistance.
    Take care both.
    Cheers, Huw

      Had to look up Heath Robinson but i got a chuckle out of it. Hopefully he really would have approved. Also... as always, you are incredibly observant. Truth is, my garage door opens back up when it bumps into something. I time it perfectly to stop it. Before it goes back up. 😁

    Hi I need some help if possible
    I have recently bought the m1 XTool (only the 5w) however really struggling with the smell, it is vented outside however fine that the holes the base plate and bottom seem to just create a gap for fumes to escape! It’s a really bad smell when cutting wood 3mm
    Could I please ask the best solution? I have just bought an air assist to try and reduce the wood burning,
    Question is would the risers be good which come with the honeycomb and block cover?
    I keep looking at the air purifier but it’s £600 and not 100% sure if this is too epensive (when considering filters are £150)
    Please help as I’m close to selling the machine / returning

      Unless you can make a 100% airtight system, you will not be able to get rid of the smell. I have the smoke purifier and it allows me to work in my garage that has no ventilation or windows. I dont have problems with smoke but there is still a slight smell. Keep in mind the laser is burning the wood. Even if you temove the smoke the burnt wood still smells. As for the air assist, it is not meant to help prevent smoke or smells. Air assist blows away microscopic particles that are created by the laser cutting the wood. The particles bounce around and get in the way of the laser beam, making light go in different directions so the beam is less effective. Air assist blows away the particles to allow a clean beam. If anything, the air assist blows smoke around Even more.
      Back to smell. You can cook fish in your house and have a ventilator blow the smoke out but it is the cooked fish that smells. Even without the smoke, your house smells like fish. The smell is coming from the fish, not the fire that is cooking the fish. So you can remove smoke but the cut pieces of wood will smell.
      So... if you use a smoke purifier or fan to vent the smoke, remove the cut wood from the house as soon as you can to minimize the smell.
      I am sorry I am unable to help you get rid of smoke and smell

    Love it and thanks for sharing! This would work for me in the warmer months but not in the winter as in my area it gets too cold for me to work and leave the machine in the garage. So, wish I could because my set-up is in a spare bedroom. So, I had to get the the xTool Smoke Purifier. It definitely helps but it could be better.
    What I noticed recently is that there are those openings on the right hand side of the base which will still allows smells to escape but having whatever exhaust system/purifier definitely is better than none.

      I am sorry we did a poor job of explaining, our design is made for our garage but the concept will also work in windows., You would open your window, place in the exhaust wood and then close the window to pinch it in. The M1 has a decent fan to help push out smells and smoke but the inline fan, boosts the power of the airflow to push the smoke and smell out. I dont think this method will get rid of the smoke and smell 100 percent but I believe it will do a great job. BTW, we wish to thank you for taking the time to watch our video and for your well written comment. We sincerely appreciate it.

      @@Poor_Mans_DIY you did an great job explaining and I understood it all. I have a large slider window and probably could turn it vertically. I just would need to hire someone to do it.

      @@TYJ419 Hmmm. Let me think of options. You can check with local high schools with wood workshops and see if they would be willing to make it for you. Try craigslist and search local handymen. If they are advertising over Craigslist, they may do it as a side hustle and for a very low price. If you come to Hawaii, we can build one with you. 🙂

      I cant wait until she is able to build something. She has a plastic tool set she plays with at our house. she will go on and on with Jennifer and I as she pretends to hammer the door, use a screw driver and a wrench on every bit of the door. She insists we help. I just go nuts and have fun with her. We have worked on the door about a ton of times already. LOL

    Might I make a suggestion. Unless you are actively using the rotary that in is not necessary to keep the riser blocks installed. This is a HUGE opening for smoke and other fumes that the fan does not take out to escape your M1. Just a trick to save your garage from smelling....

      That is fantastic that you brought this up to us and our viewers. You are spot on. I now cut exclusively with a honeycomb and have to use risers at all time in order for the honeycomb to fit underneath. It causes the gap you refer to. I use 3" x 15" x 1/8" strips i lay/tape along the gap to keep the smoke within and to allow our smoke purifier to capture it. Thank you for the wonderful comment!

    Why did you go with the 3 inch hoses and adapters, rather than just use the 4"? (I can see sticking with the original size on the M1 side, but why both sides? Does it have to do with aerodynamics or something?)

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Год назад +1

      unlike a vacuum , where you lose strength by going from a small hose to a larger hose, this is just a fan pushing air out, faster. So, you are absolutely correct. There is no requirement to do so. I picked up a spare 3" hose to match the one that came with the M1 but I could have gone with a 4 inch.

    How did you disconnect the original fan?

    • @Poor_Mans_DIY
      @Poor_Mans_DIY  Год назад

      I did not disconnect the original fan. It just supplements the flow from the M1 fan. It does make the M1 fan spin faster, but i dont believe it will cause problems.
