soooo...I did the glass cleaner and when I start wiping my mirror, I seen the streaks and thought ummm...this isn't working. A few seconds later, my mirror was SPOTLESS....😯😯😯...It ACTUALLY works.....I appreciate you ladies....
PHOENIX i thought the same at first lol i love discovering new toxic-free homemade cleaners. I just started exploring and im so very happy with my recipes!
I'm concerned about my place smelling of vinegar ???? I know it sounds silly, but I don't like the smell. And did you use newspaper of microfibre cloth?
Sub liquid castile soap for the dish soap and you got my vote. I've been making all my cleaning and personal grooming supplies for several years now and LOVE them and the fact that they're all natural. Btw, liquid castile soap, like Dr Bronner's magic soap, mixed with baking soda and a tiny bit of water to make a paste, is the best scrubbing cleaner ever! Mild enough for my glass top stove but tough enough to clean years of burnt gunk off my bbq grill with out any real effort.
Thank you so much for sharing the DIY recipe that kicks butt on your cleaning projects in your world! I'll try both yours and Melissa's recipes and see which works best in my world.
I use one table spoon of dish washing liquid (blue dawn dish soap is what I use) one table spoon of baking soda, one cup of vinegar and two cups water. I use it on literally everything. It foams up because the baking soda and vinegar have a reaction. It helps if you add the water first then the vinegar and the baking soda last. I like it because I don't have to worry about it harming myself or my family. Good luck on your cleaning journeys!
Just a little bit of info.. the reaction that is happening between the baking soda and vinegar is actually the two cancelling each other out. Mixing baking soda + vinegar = neutral salty water. This is because baking soda is alkaline (higher on the PH scale) and vinegar is acid (lower on the PH scale). There are so many DIY recipes on the internet saying to mix the two but they are wrong. The two are better cleaning products if they are used separately :) Spread the word
1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid and 2 tablespoons distilled vinegar. Put it in the small tank of a carpet shampooer and finish filling it up with hot water. I use this to clean carpets and it takes out almost any kind of stains.
For over a decade I have just used full- strength rubbing alcohol (70% or 90%) in a spray bottle to disinfect and clean most everything: glass, mirrors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, sinks and fixtures in bath & kitchen, commodes, etc. I use it with good paper towels. Both are cheap and you don't have to bother to wash towels later! Easy and I love it! Just DO NOT USE it on laytex-based paint or caulk, because it will melt and remove it! But, it's great to use as a remover of those things if you need to get paint off of something or carpets! Rubbing alcohol also removes many stains, kills soap residue and bubbles, and is great for removing oil or grease marks and scuff marks. Best to always test a spot first to ensure that it doesn't damage the finish using a Q-Tip and a squirt of alcohol on the cotton tip. Oh! You CAN also use it to clean well-cured, oil-based paint (probably not flat paint though--haven't tried that).
Tonight I used the tub and tile cleaner/degreaser on my faucet in my tub/shower, no matter what I used to clean it, the "soap scum" wouldn't come off. I made my cleaner, left it on there for 5 to 10 minutes and then used a scrubbing sponge to clean it, not expecting anything to really happen, and WOW! It got all the stuff that I thought was "gouged" into the faucet off of there and made it shiny again. Amazing stuff, thank you so much for the cleaning tips and videos, you are awesome!
Thank you for sharing! The soap scum remover/degreaser is absolutely amazing. It doesn't have the chemically smell, rinses well, and cuts through grease and soap scum like no one's business. :)
Very impressive and thorough. I use many of these combinations, already, but learned of some new ones. Thanks! Also, your tone is immaculate and your approach is a great balance of professional and perky/cool. Love it. Good job!
I started watching your channel a couple of weeks ago and using your homemade cleaners and my family already thought I'm going nuts, because our home has never been so clean bevor ;-) I LOVE TO CLEAN NOW and your way to tidy a room really helped me getting a better routine :-) THANKS FOR THAT
I never leave comments on anyone's videos (EVER) but this one helped me so much that I had to thank u. I used the vinegar and dish washing liquid with the help of the baking soda on the tub and tiles. When I finished it looked like a completely different bathroom. Thank u so much!
You are my favorite channel! It always makes me want to clean!! Do you have a video on how to clean my kitchen? If not, can u make one? I really need help on that.
I'm really excited to try these! Now that I finally own my own apartment I spent the day yesterday cleaning the whole house with your tips, but the cleaners from the store made the eczema on my hands flare up bad! I'm switching to these cleaners next time to help my sensitive skin!
These cleaners work great, I have not bought conventional since I watched this video. I have learned to make my own fabric softener, ironing spray and laundry soap...not only am I saving money I know exactly what is in the cleaners I use. My hands feel soft too, they used to be very dry . Thanks for the recipes.
I just made the disinfectant and all purpose cleaner I really love both of those. Thanks. I was using bleach around the house for years and always got sick. I still use bleach on my dishes and toilet tho. 2 cap fulls
Why dillute the rubbing alcohol with water? It's 65% because that (I thought it was 70%) is the perfect proportion to kill bacteria! 32,5% alcohol would prevent them from reproducing (for a while?), but it shouldn't properly disinfect.
You are correct that to disinfect surfaces you should use Isopropyl Alcohol 70% undiluted. I am not sure why she is showing to dilute it. I can't imagine it working very well at this ratio.
I think we might actually need to split hairs here. There is a difference between disinfection and sanitizing. I am assuming that with a disinfectant I am killing a majority of the surface germs. If I am going to sanitize it, that’s when the big guns, like my can of Lysol that stays under the cupboard most of the year, come in. There are no little people in our home and it is very clean, I don’t worry about using bleach and Lysol all over the place as it just doesn’t work for us. She often says you can alter this stuff for your home.😉
Yes! I wonder about this too! Putting the 70% alcohol straight onto the spray bottle would make a proper disinfectant, otherwise, mixing it with 50% water just creates some other product with another useful purpose, doesn't it? Not a germ-killer disinfectant
My school got a directive from on high last week not to use chemical cleaners in the classroom, so I made some of these when making my students clean today. Thanks! The stain remover worked some wonders on this poor, battered carpet!
Thanks for great DIY cleaning making advice. I'm having some problems in the mixes with baking soda and borax. After I use the mixtures I get a residue that looks like cars parked on our Chicago streets after snow, lots of salting - the salt leaves a residue as do my banking soda and borax cleaning mixtures. I have to go back and clean these places with just water/vinegar . Thanks Mellisa .
Just a helpful tip if you have high mineral water. Always use bottled water for any of these recipes and especially glass cleaner in order to get non-streak results.
Bottled water is loaded with minerals because that's what makes it taste good. Use distilled water that has No minerals. You're using water as a solvent. Water with minerals will leave minerals behind when it evaporates. Don't forget your high school chemistry. Just because bottled water comes out of a spring (or well) doesn't mean it has magical powers...just that its been certified safe to drink, and of course pay ridiculous $$ for.
You can scale the recipe to as much or as little as you need. For example, one cup water to a half cup vinegar would be two parts water to one part vinegar.
Im a house keeper and 11yrs years now were using all what she mention and it was really great result and less money and more on in eco.all i want to try now is the hydrogen peroxide as stain remover🤩🤩
Hmm, I have never heard of yellowing due to water before. I would guess it's because there is a certain mineral present in the water. I wonder if you can spray it with vinegar after showering, perhaps that would help?
Quick way to clean the microwave... fill a coffee mug with water and add a 1/2 of lemon.. put it in the micro, set on high for 5 mins... when done wipe the inside of the micro clean. thanks for the awesome vid!
I love love love your videos! They are extremely motivating! I hate cleaning so much that, well, let me just say I don’t let anyone inside my home! In fact, I don’t even want to be here! I have a bad back and standing upright makes me hurt tremendously! If I’m going to cause more pain it’s going to be something I enjoy doing like gardening. However, when cold weather comes along I have to clean! 😩 Your videos are a lifesaver! Thank you so much for your great info and for motivating me to get busy cleaning! BTW I use the same products you use except I’ve never tried Castile soap. It’s now on my shopping list! Thanks again and keep these videos coming!
Hi Melissa! Thank you for posting these EXCELLENT videos and your wonderful channel - they are helping me with my work tremendously! Can you please, please tell me how to make a disinfecting, all-purpose cleaner which also uses essential oil (that you mentioned in your bathroom-cleaning video)? Blessings
Cool video, learned something new. I like the fact that all your products aren't hazardous to the skin, and those product has so much more uses. Like Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide makes a good toothpaste, hydrogen peroxide gets rid of a blood stains, you could also add 2 quartz of hydrogen peroxide to bath water to help detoxify skin.
+georgemstew22 Actually, hydrogen peroxide is not good for your skin. It's okay to use it to clean out cuts and scrapes, but it kills skin cells, even the perfectly good ones. So putting it in bath water isn't a good idea.
Hi Melissa! I love your channel. It's totally in my top 3... I don't even take to RUclips all that much. But you're such a resource! Thank you!!... To follow up, you said in this video that you use 50% homemade cleaning products and 50 store-bought products in your cleaning kit. What are your must-have store bought products? And why?? I live in Cali and probably have different cleaning needs than someone in Canada, but still, I'm sure there's a lot of overlap.
Can you use the stain "pretreatment" on colors, and or darks?? My work uniforms are navy blue and I do not want to "whiten" them haha if not, what else would you substitute the peroxide with?

Can't thank you enough for this video. Cleaning essentials simplified. Perfect!
Great info. I clean for a living so this will come in especially handy, as I want to keep expenses down and use less chemicals. Thanks.
So how has the home made cleaners been working for you and your business? I'm thinking of starting my own.

Thank you CMS!
Thank you for sharing! The soap scum remover/degreaser is absolutely amazing. It doesn't have the chemically smell, rinses well, and cuts through grease and soap scum like no one's business. :)
