Hello everyone welcome to MP SCIENCE CLASS, in this video we will study why reflecting telescope is more preferred than refracting telescope.
We will also see the ray diagram for reflecting telescope and its types.
Reflecting telescope:
A reflecting telescope is an optical telescope that uses mirrors to gather and focus light. Unlike a refracting telescope, which uses lenses, a reflecting telescope relies on a concave mirror (called the primary mirror) to collect light and reflect it to a focal point. Reflecting telescopes are widely used in astronomy because they avoid the chromatic aberration that lenses can produce, and they can be built in much larger sizes.
Advantage of Reflecting telescope:
No Chromatic Aberration: Since mirrors reflect all wavelengths of light equally.
Cost-Effective for Large Apertures: Mirrors can be made larger and lighter than lenses of the same diameter.
Compact Design: Reflecting telescopes can be designed in shorter lengths due to folded light paths.
Types of reflecting telescope:
Cassegrain telescope and Newtonian telescope.
