I would suggest to drop Ghostery. Not a good history behind it (used to be tracking people's browsing habits and was also proprietary at some point; also it doesn't do much since you alreadey use uMatrix and uBO). Replace it with Cookie Autodelete.
Vivaldi isn't open source so it's very difficult to verify if it has spying or tracking built-in. You can configure it for privacy although open-source browsers like Firefox, Iridium are still better.
Is deleting cookies and browsing history necessary when I use extensions (such as Privacy Badger, Privacy Possum, uBlock, CanvasBlocker, Decentraleyes) necessary? I mean, these already block a lot of trackers out there, so I'm interested to know wether its useful or not.
Another's superb video! More detail on some of the minor tweaks that aren't in your privacy for 2019 video (which I've watched 3 or 4 times) Liked. Also, I've had great success using Qwant.com. startpage I think replicates Google results (I think). Its still great though...I have startpage configured via its webpage settings bookmarked in my tor browser so the configuration remains without the use of cookies. Very handy feature! Also, Qwant does produce noticeable differences in search results that even startpage and DDG dont uncover. So I regularly use all three...DDG, startpage, and qwant.
Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't been using qwant for a while actually. Might give it a try again. I usually go for DDG and Startpage. I find diversity in search results quite helpful when doing research.
@@TheHatedOne the only problem with startpage, which I suspect but haven't confirmed, is that if it replicates Google's search results, you still might be susceptible to biases in their search algorithm, even if it's not additionally influenced by what it can find in the guts of your web browser. Again, this is only a suspicion bit I've not confirmed it. Search engine diversity is just as important as browser compartmentalization.
@@jgn2112 It is true they do pull results from Google. They do it more privately than if you had to visit Google directly, but as you said, there is a huge corporate bias with Google's results so I don't trust their results. Especially for important content like news or politics.
I just got my new laptop from Dell. Now I'm going to spend my day doing laundry and teaching myself how to "properly" use my new device. I hate being tethered down by Microsoft and google and amazon. Time to start acting like a criminal, lol.
@TheHatedOne, which distro did you use? Because if you are using Ubuntu, do not do that as they have started to collect user data for feedback. Also Linux Mint is dependent on Ubuntu. Even though they stated they didn't copy that feature of data collection, i do not trust Ubuntu due to their choice. Just wanted ti update you.
Also, duckduckgo uses the chromium engine, which is created by Google. Every case where they mention that Google only collects statistics, no one actually checked the source code to verify if that is true. The same also goes with android.
@@mamaluigi0631 debian in theory should be okay, and arc for sure is not doing this. But many have taken precaution to avoid debian, but there is no evidence for debian collecting user data in any way
Blocking WebRTC and WebGL might break some sites. You should have a profile where they are not disabled and use it when the site does not work otherwhise.
There are also some Containers plugins for major GAFAM, it makes browsing fine and less difficult to setup. The original is Facebook container made by mozilla. I just wonder how much RAM do they eat-up..?
What about Waterfox? I tried it and some settings were different, hidden or just not existent. Also is Brave still private?I can't set it to delete history or data automatically just as the other blink browsers. But it's still included in PrivacyTools instead of Waterfox. BTW great video as always :)
I've heard that Waterfox isn't very private out-of-the-box. Also, Brave has been known to engage in some very shady behaviour regarding whitlelisting of Facebook and Twitter scripts.
@@ashtonleo1418 yeah that's because those trackers break those sites. I have been using brave with custom settings with brave awards disabled and strict mode. And surprisingly it blocks every tracker on site (quite a few sites are found broken) but yeah it works.
I am curious to know what they say about passowrd managers. I've been using KeepassXC for a 1 year and almost 4 months and i really love it except the key exchange in KeePassHTTP protocol between the browser and the server (KeePass/X/XC) which i don't use. It happens in pure plain-text which is very dangerous for security practice, if an attacker can succeed in this, he can use the KeePassHTTP protocol to request almost all of your passwords. (limited to the one with an URL set or an URL in the title) So if you ever use this password manager like KeePass/X/XC you are recommended to stop using KeePassHTTP plugin. To see this go to Tools > Settings > Integration with browsers you will see "Enable KeePassHTTP", if checked, uncheck it. Besides this i love this password manager because i use the principle of "forget to remember" I just memorised my password to access my database where i collect my credentials. EDIT: i forgot to add that i don't know about this password manager, sorry if i can't help you more effectively.
You need to add a warning that after doing all thing Firefox turns into a great text reader and nothing more! RUclips, bank sites, o365, and many more stop working all together. I like privacy, but when I cannot work or bank something has to give!
You didn't mention to enable ESNI (encrypted server name indication) network.trr.mode = 2 or better 3 (but 3 will fail if the primary DNS is unavailable) network.trr.uri - default is ok (but it is cloudflare which may probably track you), network.security.esni.enabled=true PS: to check whether it works: www.cloudflare.com/ssl/encrypted-sni/

Time to start acting like a criminal, lol.
love your voice buddy
@TheHatedOne, which distro did you use? Because if you are using Ubuntu, do not do that as they have started to collect user data for feedback. Also Linux Mint is dependent on Ubuntu. Even though they stated they didn't copy that feature of data collection, i do not trust Ubuntu due to their choice. Just wanted ti update you.
Also, you need to mention that Windows is corrupted with their new data collwction
Also, duckduckgo uses the chromium engine, which is created by Google. Every case where they mention that Google only collects statistics, no one actually checked the source code to verify if that is true. The same also goes with android.
Also duckduckgo browser not the actual search engine
@@mamaluigi0631 debian in theory should be okay, and arc for sure is not doing this. But many have taken precaution to avoid debian, but there is no evidence for debian collecting user data in any way
@@mamaluigi0631 in what sense? All the current linux distros that i am aware of have it.
What about privacy badger extention? Is ublock with 3rd party blocking like the same?
I am curious about why we should not log into our Firefox account?can you explain why?
Thank you for advice.
Blocking WebRTC and WebGL might break some sites. You should have a profile where they are not disabled and use it when the site does not work otherwhise.
Good vid btw 👍
There are also some Containers plugins for major GAFAM, it makes browsing fine and less difficult to setup. The original is Facebook container made by mozilla. I just wonder how much RAM do they eat-up..?
What is best to use? Ublock origin or umatrix? Or both?
Whatever you are most comfortable using. I would recommend either-or, you don't have to use them both at the same time.
You forgot to tick Do Not Track.
What do you think of facebook container addon?
What is your opinion of EnPass password manager ? I'm finding a lot of conflicting opinions on reddit about passwords manager. Thanks !
(limited to the one with an URL set or an URL in the title)
So if you ever use this password manager like KeePass/X/XC you are recommended to stop using KeePassHTTP plugin.
I advise you to try Utopia, since no configuration will make you completely protected
What about Firefox ESR and security does it get good updates to security ?
Make a Brave edition
You didn't mention to enable ESNI (encrypted server name indication)
network.trr.mode = 2 or better 3 (but 3 will fail if the primary DNS is unavailable)
network.trr.uri - default is ok (but it is cloudflare which may probably track you),
network.security.esni.enabled=true
PS: to check whether it works: www.cloudflare.com/ssl/encrypted-sni/
I agreed, but suspect that he wanted to keep it 'somewhat' simple for the common users to follow. But it is solid advice!
@bla bla . Add beacon.enabled = false
Thank you very much for this!
