My theory is he’s doing this because he doesn’t want her to move and take the kids to England. She discussed in multiple interviews that she misses it there and wants to move back with her family. It appears to me that he is trying to ruin her reputation not only to maintain his "good Christian" image (which is hard to do when a divorce happens), but also as a power move in the upcoming custody agreement. Sophie has openly and repeatedly stated she wished to move back to the U.K. for her mental health (which has been a struggle she has been very candid about), to be near her support system (she left everything and everyone behind to live with Joe in the States), and to give her children a more country/rural upbringing like she had growing up with her family as well as a better education; It came out after this video was posted that they allegedly came to a mutual agreement for Joe to take the kids while she was working on her project overseas because of how her filming schedule works and the fact that Joe would have the support of nannies and his family while he is on tour. It is really coming off to me that this was a calculated decision by Joe to wait until she was out of the country, while not allowing her to take the kids, to file for divorce AND custody here (in the U.S., that is). In the divorce filing he states more than once that the kids have been with him alone for months, specifying that they have been in the United States. Giving more credence to this theory is the fact that "sources close to Joe" (or more likely his PR team, let's be real) immediately began slandering her in publications known for posting whatever sources tell them regardless of the truthfulness behind the allegations such as TMZ, Page Six, and the Daily Mail painting her as a partier and insinuating she is a bad mother, she did something vaguely bad on their ring cam footage (weird flex, but OK), with claims that she regrets having kids so young and "losing her youth". All this, despite the fact that not only did the kids visit her in the U.K. while she was filming earlier this summer, but she also put her career on hold for literal years during the peak of her success following an international phenomenon project (everyone has heard of Game of Thrones) to have these kids very quickly back-to-back earlier than she wanted to because he felt his age put pressure on them to have kids on a quicker timeline. Unsurprisingly, another article came out stating that she had been struggling with postpartum issues (which is EXTREMELY common in people who give birth who had previous mental health struggles such as Sophie) and that he was unsupportive, pressuring her to make public appearances with him despite not wanting to be photographed (some of the mental health issues she had struggled with have involved body image, so that makes a lot of sense, actually), and told people at an event she refused to go to that he was displeased that she wouldn't come and she "needed to get out more" (but I thought she was a partier, according to "sources"?). Another one also stated that, despite the issues she was having, he wanted to have a third child and she said no. You mentioned this in the video but this really solidified my dislike for Joe: He clearly pap-walked with his kids on purpose to further appear as the poor abandoned single father. Now a lot of celebrities do this of course, but Sophie (and so we thought, Joe) has been VERY passionate about the kids' privacy; so much so, they don't post pictures of them anywhere and we don't even know their second daughter's name. When their first daughter was photgraphed and her image sold by paparazzi, Sophie said "the reason that I am not posting pictures of my daughter and making sure that we can avoid paparazzi at all costs is because I explicitly do not want those photos out there... She is my daughter. She did not ask for this life, to be photographed. It's [sic] creepy that grown old men [are] taking pictures of a baby without their permission... I'm sickened, I'm disgusted, and I'm respectfully asking everyone to stop following us around and stop trying to take pictures of our daughter and especially printing them" and she explicitly let photographers know they "do not have [her] permission" to photograph her baby. I can't believe how much this reminds me of when Ashlee Simpson divorced Pete Wentz. They were so in love and the perfect emo couple, then suddenly she slammed him with divorce papers. Used his mental health against him, accused him of abusing their child, and said she lived in fear and had to get away. She even filed for a restraining order against him, which later was dropped because it was confirmed that was all for show. He was completely blindsided by the accusations, as was his band/fans, and her fans who turned against her. In the end she destroyed her reputation and career to cover up the fact she was cheating. I honestly think this might be his way of "punishing her" by divorcing and demanding custody (and attempting to ruin her public image). She's been talking for a LONG time about wanting to return to England to be closer to her family, but Joe constantly refused. This is his way of exerting control and making himself look good ahead of custody hearings. At least that's what it looks like to me so far - I may be wrong, I'm obviously not seeing the inner workings of this particular relationship. He's gone out of his way to make sure the world knows he's "the sole caregiver" ... Even though she was obviously still present. He's infuriated that she was going out, but also admits that he was pushing her to be more public? Sir. This isn't a good look.

Agree with both comments. I think he took advantage of her youth, fame and money, from the start. That is from what I have seen and heard in interviews, from their own mouths. She has been consistent- with her statements and actions wherashe has changed his previous comments, and started to be more popular when he started dating her, as a teen. He has said that he was happy that she spent a lot of her money on him. It appears to me that he is trying to ruin her reputation not only to maintain his "good Christian" image (which is hard to do when a divorce happens), but also as a power move in the upcoming custody agreement.
Sophie has openly and repeatedly stated she wished to move back to the U.K. for her mental health (which has been a struggle she has been very candid about), to be near her support system (she left everything and everyone behind to live with Joe in the States), and to give her children a more country/rural upbringing like she had growing up with her family as well as a better education; It came out after this video was posted that they allegedly came to a mutual agreement for Joe to take the kids while she was working on her project overseas because of how her filming schedule works and the fact that Joe would have the support of nannies and his family while he is on tour.
It is really coming off to me that this was a calculated decision by Joe to wait until she was out of the country, while not allowing her to take the kids, to file for divorce AND custody here (in the U.S., that is). In the divorce filing he states more than once that the kids have been with him alone for months, specifying that they have been in the United States. Giving more credence to this theory is the fact that "sources close to Joe" (or more likely his PR team, let's be real) immediately began slandering her in publications known for posting whatever sources tell them regardless of the truthfulness behind the allegations such as TMZ, Page Six, and the Daily Mail painting her as a partier and insinuating she is a bad mother, she did something vaguely bad on their ring cam footage (weird flex, but OK), with claims that she regrets having kids so young and "losing her youth". All this, despite the fact that not only did the kids visit her in the U.K. while she was filming earlier this summer, but she also put her career on hold for literal years during the peak of her success following an international phenomenon project (everyone has heard of Game of Thrones) to have these kids very quickly back-to-back earlier than she wanted to because he felt his age put pressure on them to have kids on a quicker timeline.
Unsurprisingly, another article came out stating that she had been struggling with postpartum issues (which is EXTREMELY common in people who give birth who had previous mental health struggles such as Sophie) and that he was unsupportive, pressuring her to make public appearances with him despite not wanting to be photographed (some of the mental health issues she had struggled with have involved body image, so that makes a lot of sense, actually), and told people at an event she refused to go to that he was displeased that she wouldn't come and she "needed to get out more" (but I thought she was a partier, according to "sources"?). Another one also stated that, despite the issues she was having, he wanted to have a third child and she said no.
You mentioned this in the video but this really solidified my dislike for Joe: He clearly pap-walked with his kids on purpose to further appear as the poor abandoned single father. Now a lot of celebrities do this of course, but Sophie (and so we thought, Joe) has been VERY passionate about the kids' privacy; so much so, they don't post pictures of them anywhere and we don't even know their second daughter's name. When their first daughter was photgraphed and her image sold by paparazzi, Sophie said "the reason that I am not posting pictures of my daughter and making sure that we can avoid paparazzi at all costs is because I explicitly do not want those photos out there... She is my daughter. She did not ask for this life, to be photographed. It's [sic] creepy that grown old men [are] taking pictures of a baby without their permission... I'm sickened, I'm disgusted, and I'm respectfully asking everyone to stop following us around and stop trying to take pictures of our daughter and especially printing them" and she explicitly let photographers know they "do not have [her] permission" to photograph her baby. For him to then use the kids as a media tool by parading them in front of paparazzi to bolster his image and/or gain points in the upcoming custody battle is a real low-blow and 100% ensured I will never support him or the Jonas Brothers (as a band, individually we will see if they are separate from Joe) in anything ever again despite having been a fan since they first became popular.
It's really coming across like he is (a) punishing her for going back to work and not having a third child with him and (b) manipulated all of this in his favor by painting a bad light on the mother of his children so he could come out on top, which is just sad. Sophie, and their daughters, deserve much MUCH better than this and I truly hope that she can get the kids to the U.K. and get the support she and they need, because it surely is not coming from him.

I can't believe how much this reminds me of when Ashlee Simpson divorced Pete Wentz. They were so in love and the perfect emo couple, then suddenly she slammed him with divorce papers. Used his mental health against him, accused him of abusing their child, and said she lived in fear and had to get away. She even filed for a restraining order against him, which later was dropped because it was confirmed that was all for show. He was completely blindsided by the accusations, as was his band/fans, and her fans who turned against her. In the end she destroyed her reputation and career to cover up the fact she was cheating. I love JB, but every since Joe married Sophie I’ve always thought he seemed alittle controlling. He admits to having an infatuation with her from GOT and approaching her. Joe’s in his mid 30’s and Sophie is mid 20’s legal yes, not as creepy as say a 35 year old dating a 19 year old but he locked her down young and inexperienced, barely just starting her career. When you think about how old Sophie would’ve been during the hay day of the JB, you can imagine her being like eleven telling her friends she would marry Joe Jonas one day. I don’t fully believe it’s due to her partying; as stated they’ve both admitted more than once she’s the homebody. We also have multiple years of footage of Joe Jonas partying, DJ’ing, multiple times he sings about how he’s drunk and dancing on cars (a weird amount). He’s always been the one who craves the attention in the band and I feel he probably craves the attention from others and to be the spotlight in his marriage.

So she had been there supporting Joe focusing on being a wife and mother and now that she is doing something for her career for the first time in years. To be completely honest it sounds to me like Sophie has always been there for Joe, and now that Sophie is doing something with her career. Joe can’t pull up for his wife.
