while i really love the visible skin texture and scarring of the model, it was really not necessary to use a dark foundation even if the intent was not racist. yes, kaeya is tan and no kaeya is not specified to be black. he can be dark skinned and of any race. but darkening skin with foundation can be seen as racist and make people uncomfortable even if it looks more accurate to the character. all in all, this is actually a wonderful tutorial on cosplay makeup. just make sure to avoid stuff like this in the future please

We take cosplay super seriously and most of us will go the whatever extend needed to ensure a cosplay's accuracy. Face taping, skin darkening/lightening, chest bidding, literal fake body parts, you name it. Asian cosplayers thought of this as an act of respecting the creators, respecting the characters, respecting the people the character(s)'s based on (if there is one) and respecting ourselves. This is our way of cherishing them. Cosplay is a form of art, and it should be free from any hate of any kind. Blackface, by definition, is painting the literal color black and stereotype features of black people to MOCK them. And you see, the reason why we do this (and what we do) is the complete opposite. This's how it has always been in Asia, stop trying to change something that we have been practicing and enjoying for years just so it suits your definition of 'good'. Stop thinking everything have some kind of malicious intend behind it. It's just cultural difference (there are dark-skinned Asian too, and no one take offend to cosplay), like how eating loudly in Japan is considered compliment to the chef but doing the same in VN is considered rude to the other customers. Darkening your skin for a character isn’t racist. Since they’re not doing it to offend people. It’s people’s opinion on how they cosplay the character, and you can’t be a person to judge how they style it.
