I just picked up this month cheap the Asahi takumar 135mm 5411423. It' manual and , to my surprise, it has 8 elements. I can't wait for better weather to try it out. I can tell it's bright because I did shoot one shot out my front door when it was sunny and it registered a high shutter speed. Thanks for your video.

I've just bought one of the "bad" versions oh this lens and it's really amazing. I tested yesterday and the images have a very nice "film" look, may be precisely because it´s not perfect. That exactly what I like of vintage lenses...

In LA, a friend sold one of these and a 35mm wide angle to me in 1969 which completed my Pentax collection. In the mid-70s, switched to Canon, had everything including F-1, many Ftbs, etc. After moving to Dallas, was burgled and all camera equipment taken (including Mamiya 6x4.5 and RB67 and a trove of lenses). Home insurance reimbursed me but still missed that first Pentax. Mainly turn to iPhone now, but still can't let go of this equipment. Sorry for ramble!

SO you are just going to describe the lens you bought to drive up the resale value of what you have, clever. Show us a comparison between the different lenses and let us make the decision on which one is better.

Dear Sir thanks for all the tips recognizing the newer version. Just got mine and happily it is the 6 element one. BUT I FACE a problem. I can not take off the back lid to mount the lens and I do not want to put any pressure to the lens. Is there a trick to it? Silly xmmmm. Otherwise the lens looks to be in mink condition. Aperture ring is fine and focus ring is soft. Looks like the lens is very little used. What if this lid does not unscrew? Oooooo dear.

I think optically the early K-mount (not K-Takumar) 135/2.5 is identical - at least I bougt thise meanwhile the 2nd time without seenig the difference to the "original M42 Takumar" I had in analogue times from 1975-2002

Does the mount affect on the image quality ? I am looking at K mount but there are discussions in forum saying m42 is the real deal for 135 mm f2.5

Mark Holtze has a side-by-side comparison video on both versions. It shows that the 6 element is indeed sharper at the corners but the centre sharpness is pretty much identical. Also there's less CA with the 6 element version.

How much are these versions worth? I see the other versions for about $100

So? The lastest model is the best? For astrophotography?

For pictures there are significant difference among them? , sharpness, color rendition etc?

Not significant, but a difference nonetheless.

I have the early and last gen Super Tak 135 and see absolutely no difference at all. I carefully tested both on tripod and when looking at images on my high rez monitor, can see no discernable difference between the two. Either one will deliver the goods!

Yup. What he said. A lens is a lens is a lens. The photographer makes the image. But then, everybody needs a hobby! let the dilettantes split and re-split the last hair.

I feel this is just a bunch of guys making it seem this lens he described is the best way to go so they can bank on what they purchased. Sort of like art, only the people that belong to a certain group can determine which pieces are valuable or not (it just so happens that they conveniently rank works they own as the most valuable).
