I came here trying to see how Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) pronounces the S's so well, but after watching this video I realized that he actually pronounces the letter that comes before the S! Like the T in ghosts. That was all the magic! (el español es mi idioma y con el inglés, si bien lo entiendo, dejo mucho que desear en pronunciacion)
Aaaahhhhhh! YEARS spent trying to get the Ts and the Ks in those words! And still sound as close to native as possible. My gut kept telling me "there's no T!", finally someone admitted it out in the open! Thank you!!
also with the past tense pronunciation. I've always been taught when to pronounce past tense /t/, /d/, or /ed/ but I hear many times some word endings which supposed to be pronounced as /t/ be pronounced as /d/. The mainstream English drives me crazy.
Hi Coach Shane, You make my life teaching in China so much easier. Keep up the outstanding work, possibly the best English training coach I have ever had the privilege to see.
I have auditory processing disorder AND hearing problems. English is my first and only language. However, nuanced sounds have been a challenging experience to say the least. Thank you for this video! I some times “forget” how to pronounce sounds because I cannot hear/differentiate them on a daily basis. Thanks again!!!!!
This is an actual problem I'm struggling. I was afraid that people may misunderstand what I'm saying. But now, you helped me solve it, Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Hands down you're the best on RUclips sir, I always find the pronunciations I'm confused about here on ur channel, and I pretty much like it when teachers explain stuff to me like I'm 5
OMG i never knew this . So grateful you to watch this lesson. Some people say Blacks don't pronounce the ASK word very well . They say " he aks". I tried to pronounce it as " he asKs " but i am glad to hear that i can pronounce it as "he ASS".
English is a Germanic language. Some sounds in words have disappeared. Only the Vikings who conquered the United Kingdom could have pronounced them. For example, the word KNOW. The sound K in the word has vanished. Nobody knows the sound of the letter K in this word. Why? When the French Normans conquered England, French became the official language of England for about 200 years. French is a Romance language like Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Rumanian, etc. They are phonetic language. There is a direct relationship between the spelling and the sound. So, when the French Norman tried to pronounce the word KNOW, he couldn't figure out the sound of the letter K in the word. So, he decided to pronounce it without the letter K as if were a romance language word.
I came here to pronounce ask with and s... This was a great video! I need to practice with you as you pronounce asks; however I think I got it. Also, you should have included the word desks. Thank you for the upload.
Hi, Coach Shane, I LOVED your videos! They will help me a lot with my students! ;) Since I'm here...I have a request! Would you please make a video on the pronunciation of the past tense of some verbs, such as "change - changed", "watch - watched", "manage - managed"...They are a bit difficult for me to pronounce. =( Thanks in advance, Malu =]
