yeah I thought he was the best villian of all its time. and as a child I thought he was pretty scary when I saw him. the best role of a movie. loving it.
For a Disney ending, this is pretty dark. The villain is well written too. He cornered someone while at the same time being cornered as well. Instead of the latter typically makes people to sympathize, the dark dealing that put him into his situation is out of free will. This is just my initial impression of this villain since this movie never got any popularity in my place for whatever reason. Dropping Disney subscription from satellite tv in favor of Animax almost 20 years ago also means I missed a bunch of Disney movies that they aired occasionally, particularly during holiday season
His shadow is definitely supernatural. If you look closely at the wallpaper during the "are you ready" song, you'll see that any floral-pattern wallpaper the shadow covers turns to skull and crossbones. Besides that visual detail, his friends from the other side pull his shadow, not him, which pulls him along too into hell. His shadow also kicks Lawrence while Facilier himself is moving.
@@lukebell4738 It's like Peter Pan. Connected but separate. The shadow can be affected, and it affects the physical body ( no shadow means Peter can't fly, and Facilier's can be touched by other shadows) pretty cool Disney has 2 characters with a shadow connection
I only have a 101 knowledge about African mythologies but most "witches" (gender neutral term) become witches by tapping an inner spirit/soul/half within them. The Loa themselves are born the way they are and inhibit their own realms. The shadow was probably Faciliers spirit-half instead of a construct of the Loa realm
Also not so much of a fun fact, sometimes witches have to cannibalize other people so the inner-spirits and them dont mutually destroy eachother. Not sure if this is the case with Dahomeian Vodoun though

@@ar-1571 Actually Many characters in Fiction have escaped hell through some way, but many needed outside help (Slade from Teen Titans is an example, he escaped hell thanks to the power of Trigon making a deal with him, then getting his body back and coming back to life, But i don't think there is anyone that Faciler knows that can help him out of hell)
Ehhhhhhhh, not really. Husk is a gambler, but he's not some voodoo deal maker. Faciller is a combination of Alastor's deal making and false charm, with Husk's knowledge and skill in making deals and bets.
Something I realized: when "Friends on the other side" is playing for the first time with Dr. Facilier turning Naveen into a frog, the background chant is barely noticeable with a smooth jazz overshadowing it, kinda like the chant is behind the song. It represents Facilier's charismatic and off putting personaility but in reality is running from death every day When Facilier is about to "die", the chant is the loudest part and the instruments for the jazz tune are incredibly loud, like his "friends" caught up in the chase and Facilier is panicking for survival

At 2:35 that smirk and eyebrow look makes it look like the mask was being sarcastic and that they plan on getting rid of him later even if he messes up again or succeeds.
this movie felt like watching the classics again in modern times (for 2008) a movie that had no problem being cheerful as any Disney movie, but wasn't afraid of being also dark or even slightly gruesome, and Facilier, as always, the villain being the best part of the movie (well except Bellweather froom Zootopia, she was a little "meh" of a villain at least to me) had definitely the classic Disney villain treatment, and even some Scar from The Lion King vibes, someone manipulative, calm and charismathic, who at the end actually had a similar destiny, being taken down by his so-called "friends"
Dr. Facilier is now my favorite Disney villain, i always liked the ambience from the movie based in Louisiana and i always thought Bayous (althought infested with gators) where really beautiful places. also his friends from the other side song was straight up awesome
This is a really well done scene if this was made as a rated R or even PG-13 movie this could’ve been insane really well done animations, voice acting, and character writing for the movie itself.
"the other side" is one of my favorite songs from Disney. Not only does it remind me of Scar for some reason, but it's really unique compared to all the other songs that are devoted to the villains in these films. Not only that, but the melody is a banger.
Lesson learned. Like Charlie from Hazbin Hotel once said “Don’t worry I learned one thing from my dad. (aka Lucifer himself) “You don’t take shit from other demons.”” Update: On October 14, 2023 it's been announced that Keith David will be voicing Husk for Hazbin Hotel.
I haven't even seen this movie and I love how he goes from looking spindly and weak to looking large and intimidating almost on a scene by scene basis.
You got to give the doctor credit about one thing he was actually being generous splitting the fortune 60/40 with Lawrence most villains would try to take night at least 90 or 80%
Here are five reasons why Tiana is one of my favorite Disney princesses: 1. Positive attitude 2. Hardworking 3. Confident 4. Eager to please 5. Beautiful voice
I love Dr. Facilier's expressions and mannerisms, but those little voodoo dolls are so cute! 😭 I love the one with the button eyes and onion-shaped head!
Excellent villain Cool design , cool power set , very animated , great voice actor , great death . Only wish they actually took him down in a more clever way
Coincidence, Keith David voice both Disney villains, King Andrias and Dr. Facilier who have a thing for battling amphibians and bugs. Plus, they both take direct orders from Dark force, such as The Core (Andrias) and The Friends on the other side (Facilier)
I’d honestly love to see more of this guy, after watching the movie recently i honestly feel that while he has a great presence and personality, that the movie kinda severely underutilizes him until the scenes leading up to his death, i Think he shows up for about a tenth of the movie’s runtime. So, to me at least, he’s great while he’s there and is interesting… He just doesn’t really do that much for a lot of the movie besides instigating the main problem and causing a few minor setbacks until he dies. Which doesn’t seem all that impressive to have on your resume as the main antagonist of a movie
I really wish he would’ve had more screen time, he was such a cool villain, heck they could’ve gave him his own movie that gives him more of a backstory and I’d watch it.

I came here because Husker.... Dr Facilier is like the perfect combination of Husk and Alastor and I love Keith's performance so much!
Actually, this is kind of how I picture Husk as an overlord
I don't really see Husk in him but alastor is deffinetly heavily inspired by him. Especially with the voodoo powers and the "deal" he made

Which Is the city in the movie, and Louisiana is where the Term "Loa" or evil voodoo spirit Is from in their folklore

@@ark1567Yeah Facilier isn't a manupolative and cunning business man like Alastor he's more like an Andrew Tate that hopes to hook you to buy his course and the Red Pill theory
@@marioblaze2723 Alastor is probably more cautious, but his business is veeeeery! Shady. I mean: overlords are the businessmen of Hell. What he deals exactly?
Keith David did an absolutely amazing job with this role. One of my favorites he's preformed 🌹
yeah I thought he was the best villian of all its time. and as a child I thought he was pretty scary when I saw him. the best role of a movie. loving it.
I didn't know Keith david did his role! that's good to know! he really did. for voice acting was the best role for as himself.
I love him as Tombstone from The Spectacular Spider-Man and Black Panther from the 1994 Fantastic Four Cartoon.
I agree. I hope he voices Valentino from Hazbin hotel.
He should have voiced Zurg in Lightyear instead of Jim Brolin. They should have not made Zurg as an old man.
He was inspired by Kingdom of the Sun’s Yzma, who is also a necromancer who transformed the hero into an animal.
I like the implementation that his shadow isn't really as much voodoo magic as it's just a trick he can do
His shadow is definitely supernatural.
Facilier is hands down the best villains in Disney history and got the most scary death dude literally got dragged to hell and as a kid it scared me

Something I realized: when "Friends on the other side" is playing for the first time with Dr. Facilier turning Naveen into a frog, the background chant is barely noticeable with a smooth jazz overshadowing it, kinda like the chant is behind the song. It represents Facilier's charismatic and off putting personaility but in reality is running from death every day
When Facilier is about to "die", the chant is the loudest part and the instruments for the jazz tune are incredibly loud, like his "friends" caught up in the chase and Facilier is panicking for survival
The fact that Alastor from Hazbin Hotel was inspired by him is funny

Extremely underrated villain. An extremely underrated film. With an extremely underrated voice actor.
this movie felt like watching the classics again in modern times (for 2008) a movie that had no problem being cheerful as any Disney movie, but wasn't afraid of being also dark or even slightly gruesome, and Facilier, as always, the villain being the best part of the movie (well except Bellweather froom Zootopia, she was a little "meh" of a villain at least to me) had definitely the classic Disney villain treatment, and even some Scar from The Lion King vibes, someone manipulative, calm and charismathic, who at the end actually had a similar destiny, being taken down by his so-called "friends"
I mean Scar did end up desperately blaming the hyenas. . . Dr. Facilier ended up making a mistake and got sent to the shadow realm
Two villains killed by their own army.

"You and I know the Real Power in this world ain't magic, it's MONEY! Buckets of it."
