I’ve been waiting for someone to make a video. As soon as I touched it I knew they changed the formula. I’m so mad 🤦🏾♀️ it’s super watered down. No more hold. Was my #1 gel for the past 10 years
Yess!! Super water down! Before they changed the look on the outside they changed the inside and I said “this hair store sold me fake water made eco gel” I stopped going to that hair store and all. 😂 Then they changed the packaging and I definitely noticed the formula change. It sucks
Wow I noticed the same thing and thought maybe my hair had changed or gotten used to the product! I was having to use Sooo much and then reapply more often. I even tried leaving the container open overnight so it would get thicker and maybe have a stronger hold. But I’m glad you solved this mystery - EcoStyler isn’t what it used to be! Def not buying anymore. Thank you 😊

The alcohol free has a new look and the water base one still has the old look. DO NOT BUY THE WATER BASE GELS. Hope you can find it at your local stores bc I haven't seen it in Georgia yet. Ok thank you for confirming I thought my hair needed to be clarified because I kept adding gel but it was still frizzy and wouldn’t lay down even after doing my usual and tieing it down with a scarf but now I no it’s the gel.
Go to a low key, local beauty supply store you should find at least one jar with the old formula. I found one huge 2.36L jar and grabbed it. Hint get the old packaging that says “Alcohol Free” not “Water Based” on the front and then “Love and Pride” should be the last ingredient.

Update #2- Echo changed the look of the alcohol free container and also changed the formula. It's awful don't hold like it use to and is very drying. One commenter said the old formula should say alcohol free on front and Love & Pride as last ingredient. The new look does not say Love & Pride but does say alcohol free. I am so disappointed. Please do not waste your money. I did find a large container of the old formula but I found it at a small beauty shop. Hope this helps
The Eco Styler gel with the new look this is alcohol-free is not a good gel either. 😢 It does not hold and it dries out your hair. Its just watered down too. It does not have a Max maximum hold of 10. It's a very soft hold of 1. Again, it dries out hair. Very dissatisfied!
It's one of the only gels that actually holds my hair! I'm so disappointed in the new formula. Even edge control doesnt hold my baby hairs so i would use the old eco. It's like im back to the old drawing board trying to find a good product

They could’ve made the new formula a separate thing for people who have looser textures. I think those ppl were complaining about the crunch but honey it was not for y’all .
Literally just bought a small one (olive oil max hold)and saw the bright green packaging but though it was just the packaging. Literally using it and def not the same. Doesn’t clump my hair the same
Love this video! And I can't believe there isn't more info online about this reformulation... The new formula is TERRIBLE in my opinion. I use Eco Styler Gel to define my curls and lay my edges. The fact that the new formula does a mediocre job at defining my curls isn't the end of the world to me... My edges though? That's a different story! They were looking like a hot mess so I went on the hunt for the old formula and I found it!!! I think it's the absent TEA in the new formula that's the issue (I have a background in Chemistry... Not in product formulation but I have the basic knowledge). In any case, thank you for the info!!!

I have to use literal globs of them and I still get fly -a-ways! It's like they want you to have to purchase more even though the gels do less! So I'm out because of that! If your products is not loyal to me I will not be loyal any longer to your product!
I think they changed the formula for like a good year before changing the packaging cause I’ve been having this issue with it for a year. I still have some I bought months ago before they switched the container, still gives no hold. I thought it was just me. Went back to using Wetline which is reliable
I've noticed the change also. No hold a lot of frizz now. I stopped using after using for years. I had to go back to Xtreme gel for hold. I'm so disappointed in Eco.

I've experienced this with another product which was expensive too me but worth it because was a keeper until was reformulated to not do anything once did (most important) and smell changed horribly. I've steered clear from them since and this was many years ago. They're throwing integrity out the window; giving false advertising; selling a product where once was a keeper for many. I bought the olive oil one recently based off of positive reviews I remembered from years ago. Haven't opened and want to return it. Learned for instance where Argon oil was once third ingredient listed it is way down on the list of ingredients now and false advertising.

I thought it was just me but I bought the green one about two weeks ago and I tried to put it on my hair and it did not do anything for my hair. They change the formula. I don’t like it I’m just gonna go back to the wet line gel they should have left it as it was because a lot of people saying they changed the formula again I think this is the second time they changed it I’m good I’m just gonna find me another gel
I use the olive oil version and first noticed the packaging was different. I put it on my hair and immediately noticed a difference. I turned the jar around and noticed the formula was different. This new formula seems to have replaced the old one because I’m hardly seeing the one with the old packaging. My local beauty supply & retailers are stocking the new version. I live in high humidity so the original olive oil was perfect for hold and didn’t dry my hair out when paired with a leave-in or cream. When cancel culture targeted Eco Styler I was one of few that wasn’t a part of that bandwagon. I’ve tried other gels but would always go back to Eco styler because it worked for me.

I had heard of Eco Gel for years but only tried it for the first time this summer when i found it at the 99 cents store and my hair loved the Argan oil gel and made such beautiful clumps! I just purchased a larger size at Sally’s Beauty and noticed my hair has been looking off for about a week…I couldn’t figure out what was different in my routine, which prompted me to do a Google search and I found your video. Maybe the overstock of the old formula was distributed to the 99 cents store (no more at least in my area). Do you know if all of the formulas changed, or do you have a recommendation for a gel you’re using now?
I have been wondering about Ecostyler gel for some time now. It does not hold at all, and I even bought a new jar because I thought maybe I bought a bad batch. I've used this product for so long I don't know what else to buy.
I absolutely hate the new formula in the Eco Styler Gels. These gels are watered down now. The gels are watered down to the point that it makes my hair frizz up and looks dried out. I absolutely hate it! It's like I'm just using water on my hair. The Eco Styler Gels used to be my favorite gels to use on my hair. Now I will never buy Eco Styler Gels again! I am so disappointed that this company changed the formula on the gels. Plus I have lost money on this watered down new gel formula.😢
@@liveloveGlam you know what I've been doing is using a leave in, grease, EcoStyler and spraying a holding spray. I like either Aussie's Sprunch or Mega holding sprays and spray lightly.
@@theekhalilabre Thanks for the info, I have revisited grease (dax) as well and leave in (mixed chicks) and I've been using a holding spray as well (coconut curls-maui moisture). It's been a hit and a miss because I need to learn the right portions. I'm going to keep trying till I have a new routine that works!
Oh that burns me 😢 This was the only gel that made my 3c hair clump!! I’m going to try the Extreme Wetline. Reviews on YT say it’s almost the same as ECO. What are we to use now?? Afraid to use the Kinky Curling Custard. Custards leave my curls skinny and with frizz. 😢 If you find something let us know!!
Xtreme Wetline is a good alternative. I use it for many years before I start using Eco Styler Organ Oil. I like Eco better but Wetline has the hold with no flaking also.

Yup that's the new one it says Water Based now not Alcohol Free. most stores have replaced them and that’s all they have is the water-based they do still have some alcohol free from the additional ones that were made like cannabis, etc..

I saw a few videos about the ingredients not being good and checked my big container of the green Eco, which has the old ingredients. So, it's going in the trash as it's more than 3 years old. I haven't put my hair in a puff in a minute, but I have some Mane Choice gel and will see how that works. I'm not a big gel user; just oil and moisturizer.
If anyone can help, what other brand of gels that have strong holds sale large tubs of gel like eco? This really messing me up that was another reason why I liked them so much. Gonna see if I can find some of the old ones in hair stores.
Definitely changed for the worse! I recently used the Krystal formula and it does not hold anymore. Very disappointed. Do you have any other recommendations?

Eco Styler is my favorite, still. I'm sorry, but this is old news. That formula hasn't changed recently but a long time ago they nixed that so-called "bad" ingredient. Maybe that's why it's different. I'm sure that they sold their back stock first before going to the new formula. Try the Not your Mother's gel. I hear it's fab!

I always do a low bun, and eco styler gel was enough to hold my hair down and sleek all day long. Now, it's almost useless.

Look for the one that doesn't say "water based." I just noticed that on the label. The opposite one is still strong.🥳

I thought I was the only one, have been using this eco styler olive oil for 14 yrs now. Have noticed about maybe 1yr or less that it's not the same. Does not hold hard anymore, and now it flakes a ton. Makes no sense.

Been using combat gel. A little pricey, but I barely need as much gel using combat gel 🙌🏾😭
Hey Naomi have you tried the Dippity Doo Girls with Curls Gelee? I know it’s made in Canada and we have to fight to find it here in the states. When I see it I buy at least 3 it’s so good! 😂

I had heard of Eco Gel for years but only tried it for the first time this summer when i found it at the 99 cents store and my hair loved the Argan oil gel and made such beautiful clumps! I just purchased a larger size at Sally’s Beauty and noticed my hair has been looking off for about a week…I couldn’t figure out what was different in my routine, which prompted me to do a Google search and I found your video. Maybe the overstock of the old formula was distributed to the 99 cents store (no more at least in my area). Do you know if all of the formulas changed, or do you have a recommendation for a gel you’re using now?
Whats a really good dupe/alternative to eco olive? I really liked the old version.
wetline extreme is a better alternative to eco olive, even back when ecos formula was good wetline had better definition and hold
I recommend you to switch to Wet line extreme gel - it’s remains in a hard hold.
I have been wondering about Ecostyler gel for some time now. It does not hold at all, and I even bought a new jar because I thought maybe I bought a bad batch. I've used this product for so long I don't know what else to buy.

I absolutely hate the new formula in the Eco Styler Gels. These gels are watered down now. The gels are watered down to the point that it makes my hair frizz up and looks dried out. I absolutely hate it! It's like I'm just using water on my hair. The Eco Styler Gels used to be my favorite gels to use on my hair. Now I will never buy Eco Styler Gels again! I am so disappointed that this company changed the formula on the gels. Plus I have lost money on this watered down new gel formula.😢
Oh wow! I thought it was just me! Im getting NO gel cast and that's what I live for 😭 ill definitely be looking for a new hard hold gel 😢

@@liveloveGlam you know what I've been doing is using a leave in, grease, EcoStyler and spraying a holding spray. I like either Aussie's Sprunch or Mega holding sprays and spray lightly.
@@theekhalilabre Thanks for the info, I have revisited grease (dax) as well and leave in (mixed chicks) and I've been using a holding spray as well (coconut curls-maui moisture). It's been a hit and a miss because I need to learn the right portions. I'm going to keep trying till I have a new routine that works!

I’m going to try the Extreme Wetline. Reviews on YT say it’s almost the same as ECO.
What are we to use now?? Afraid to use the Kinky Curling Custard. Custards leave my curls skinny and with frizz. 😢

Xtreme Wetline is a good alternative. I use it for many years before I start using Eco Styler Organ Oil. I like Eco better but Wetline has the hold with no flaking also.
Wet line has always worked well and I have always preferred it over Eco Styler. Very reliable

Thought I was tripping because I purchased the Eco Castor flax seed, and Eco Biotin gel and neither of them work any longer on my hair. I have to use literal globs of them and I still get fly -a-ways! It's like they want you to have to purchase more even though the gels do less! So I'm out because of that! If your products is not loyal to me I will not be loyal any longer to your product!

Yup that's the new one it says Water Based now not Alcohol Free. most stores have replaced them and that’s all they have is the water-based they do still have some alcohol free from the additional ones that were made like cannabis, etc..
I've went to like 5 beauty supply stores and cant find the old formula, really sucks. Thanks for the tip about the wording/packaging
Thank you so much for making this video!! I thought that my hair changed then I realized it was the gel. My curls are soft and my hair is frizzy. I can’t even slick my hair down and I have been wondering what is going on. Has anyone found anything else that is similar to the old formula?
I saw a few videos about the ingredients not being good and checked my big container of the green Eco, which has the old ingredients. So, it's going in the trash as it's more than 3 years old. I haven't put my hair in a puff in a minute, but I have some Mane Choice gel and will see how that works. I'm not a big gel user; just oil and moisturizer.

If anyone can help, what other brand of gels that have strong holds sale large tubs of gel like eco? This really messing me up that was another reason why I liked them so much. Gonna see if I can find some of the old ones in hair stores.
Definitely changed for the worse! I recently used the Krystal formula and it does not hold anymore. Very disappointed. Do you have any other recommendations?
Not sure why they would do this and act like nothing changed. Unfortunately I don't have any recommendations at the moment but will be trying out other gels/reviewing them so subscribe to stay posted :)

Eco Styler is my favorite, still. I'm sorry, but this is old news. That formula hasn't changed recently but a long time ago they nixed that so-called "bad" ingredient. Maybe that's why it's different. I'm sure that they sold their back stock first before going to the new formula. Try the Not your Mother's gel. I hear it's fab!
First of all. You’re not part of the demographic that would be affected by that change, and second of all, they JUST changed it to a new formula that has hit the market this month. So no, it’s not old news.

Mam your hair is straight. Those of us with coily/kinky hair have different requirements than straight/wavy hair people. No one said anything about race or skin color. @@amixeblu
