You never forget when you truly Bonk. That terrible feeling, miles from home, when you try to change into 1st gear and realise you're already in 1st gear. That's when you know it's going to be a long ride home. I've only hallucinated on long rides (600km Midhurst Audax and 1200km Paris-Brest-Paris). Someone warned me it may happen due to sleep deprivation so it wasn't as scary as it could have been.
I feel the same as you. Just started getting out on my bike again, did 3 rides 1 was a night ride which I enjoy doing. And now laid up with a chest infection and sore throat. Bloody pain. We’ll get there. Thanks for another good video. Take care out there what with the weather getting worse and so are the drivers!!!
I've got to admit i quite like a bowl of porridge usually with some banana and blueberries from time to time but there seems to be some evidence that it really doesn't do much more than give you a sugar rush whereas having something with protein and some fat in it will keep you going longer. I've also been trying to lose a bit of timber and have hardly touched porridge or cereals or bread for that matter and have noticed I'm not getting as hungry as quickly.
Monday i went out on my commuter bicycle and on a whim decided to go further than planned. It turned out to be a good workout as I had to chase the sunlight as I had no lights. Managed to get a ride in today in anticipation of the weekend storms. I don't do indoor stuff
Tough conditions. Good for you for getting out and doing it. Temps low 20’s plus 20-35 mph winds here in New England. Even a crazy old fool like me won’t go out. Stayed in and packed. Leaving to drive 1500 miles to Florida next week. Sayonara. I’m outta here!
What program do you use when on the trainer? If none, you could give that a try. It makes it more entertaining. I heard that there's even a mod to cycle in GTA.
Fascinating bonk hallucination story. Maybe others on the channel will share their bonk hallucination experiences also. I personally have a paranoid reaction to my bike by humanizing it and thinking/wondering why it -the bike - is trying to cause me so much discomfort pain etc. I like your hallucination better and will try to bring it up next bonk I get. Thanks.
Well done getting back out. It’s hard, as i know. I’m trying to do about 120 km per week but it is a slog. My motivation is trying to cycle up ventoux at the end of April next year 🤣
It's demoralising when you lose fitness I'm going through it myself at the moment the key is just be patient and try and find consistency again. It'll come
Leonard what fuel do you take on the bike? A good breakfast is one thing but it takes quite a while for that fuel to get to the muscles. I take 30g carbs per hour on easy rides and adjust that figure up depending on the length / intensity of the ride.
I'm currently on my 4th month of taking 30,000 iu of vitamin d3 a week. (5000iu 6 days a week) I'm finding my heart rate is much lower especially going up hills. I have to wonder whether the levels of d3 recommended are way to low based on my experience. Im an office worker though, and often am covered when outside.
I know" the bonk" myself, I was under-fed/under quenched..come to think of it , I rarely see you drink water or have a snack on your rides Leo, although you've eaten, you might want to practice drinking and snacking more on your rides, even if they're short..hopefully you're not coming down with a cold..take care!
Hey Leonard... You don't need monster rides. What you do need is another 90 day challenge at 1Km a day... 5 minutes is all it takes.... I'll even turn a blind eye if you want to do it in your garage. And if you want to do more than that... Nobody is stopping you. I'll even join in on your 90 day challenge with you. I'll do exactly 1Km a day every day of that 90 day challenge and post it to Strava. Oh... and I rode in Hurrican Helene for 2 days when it was here in my neck of the woods.
Hey Nathan, not sure 25 kms is a monster ride but I get the idea. We are bracing ourselves for storm Darragh here at the moment. It’s due to hit tomorrow so no cycling outdoors for a while for me.
@@johnflynn4923 I think, sometimes it’s even worse than that; the birds are specially breed to be shot. Once they have been shot, they aren’t even eaten.
@@jollygoodvelo I've no problem if they are eating them or it's genuinely pest/population control but doing it just for shits and giggles is definitely not cool.
I once voiced my opinion riding past what I believed to be such a group of bird shooters - only to be bullied off the road by some psychopath driving an offroader, a few miles down the road later.

Always enjoy riding along with you. Adventures and misadventures both. Hallucination stories an added bonus!
Glad you enjoy it!

A good set of mudguards might help make riding more comfortable.
I have a bike with mudguards but I save that for the really wet days.

Very nice ride Leonardo. I have had dreams in which Helen Mirren appears but I must not reveal to you any more than that! 🤣
Strange this was, I didn’t even realise that I had a ‘thing’ for her until that day.
it's really cold in Utah. I've been on the trainer which isn't as much fun. But still trying to keep what fitness I have
I think the trainer is very different but still quite fun.

The first ride after a while off the bike always tough 😢

Helen Mirren jumping out of a birthday cake. i think she did that in 'Caligula' too
Lucky Caligula. Not watched it but I understand it was an awful film.
Erika Eleniak in Under Seige

If I take something it will usually be a banana or an energy bar.
It might be worth considering upping your fuelling on the bike and see how it feels.
Well done Leonard!

how do you cycle in the winter without overshoes 😵💫
