Another great song from Marko - "The Islander" @ Tampere 2015 and ofc. tribute to Pink Floyd - "High Hopes" @ Hartwall Arena 2005. More bands......plenty of them - Epica, Within Temptation, Kamelot just few.... and i recommend Arjen Anthony Lucassen aka. Ayreon "The Day That the World Breaks Down"
Thank you for doing this song. I would love to see your reaction to Nightwishs version of High Hopes with Marco as lead singer. Btw, David Gilmore loves this version. Greetings from germany 🫶🤘🔥
I'm probably the 999th person to recommend "High Hopes" - Nightwish's take on the Pink Floyd classic. If Floor's showpiece is "Ghost Love Score", Marko's is "High Hopes."
This beautiful little song is originally made for a Finnish rural drama movie "Lieksa!" (Pölönen, 2007). And this sold out Wembley arena 2015 performance is an excellent one. I've met Marko in person. He's a very fine individual. Merry Christmas from the snowy northern Finland! ☃️❄️🤘
Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) have several songs (Heinillä Härkien Kaukalon) with Marko Hietala and Jarkko Ahola + others. Marko Hietala also sings Varpunen Jouluaamuna (Sparrow on Christmas Morning) with a children's choir as part of the Raskasta Joulua- project.
He went over 50 years of ADHD without diagnose. No wonder he was spent! He needed some down time to rest and heal. Now it seems he's having a time of his life.
This concert is from 2015, and Marko is referring in his introduction to the attack at the concert in the Bataclan. Hearing Marko sing The Islander is what drew me to Nightwish.

Hmmm, Unleash the Archers......have heard the name, but never have heard anything by them. So, I checked out live performances of Awakening and Tonight We Ride. Sorry, they are only a onetime listen, no replay value.
@bennybuffylove it's a matter of taste and opinion. I really enjoy listening to them. I didn't like UTA at first either but that's the same with Nightwish. Now I love both bands.
Fantastic reaction, I really appreciated your analysis. It would be worth seeing some of Marko’s newer songs that he has released recently - he has a very versatile voice. And he did a song with Tarja called “Left On Mars” a year or so ago that has some interesting vocals from the both of them - cool to see how they sing together now and adapt to each others vocal styles. If you’re looking for something a bit different, maybe check out Tommy Johansson. He has an interesting voice - usually does more power metal but he has some symphonic metal songs.
Marko is not with NW anymore but he is very active currently touring with Tarja and also about to release a new solo album He also collaborates with several artists last one I've seen was with Patty Gurdy Speaking of which it could be a good suggestion for a reaction the song Concrete Cages from the band Scardust, they are also kind of symphonic/prog metal band with a great female vocalist (Noa Gruman) and that song also features Patty Gurdy who sings and plays the Hurdy Gurdy folk instrument
Thanks for sharing your professional take on this beautiful ballad. P.S. Marko had a surgery in late 90s that damaged his vocal chords. This is what he tells about it: "The doctor found a polyp on his left vocal cord and recommended surgery. I agreed - and regretted his decision. The doctor said that he had to forcefully remove the polyp, but that it shouldn’t become a problem. My voice was supposed to return to normal in a couple of weeks. That didn’t happen. At first, the situation was so bad that I couldn’t sing at all. I lost the channel and ability through which I had largely built my personality and my entire life. The situation could be compared to a sprinter who has to sit in a wheelchair with his legs tied up. It made me think, what should I do with this life". Fortunately, the story had a happy ending & Marko's voice has been in good shape for a long time. However, it has required a lot of work over the years. Marko also points out that her singing voice never returned to the level it was before the surgery: " That surgery completely killed my pure upper falsetto. Much later, it was also discovered that my left vocal cord had permanent nerve damage, which had been caused by that surgery. In other words, the left and right vocal cords are not in sync with each other properly. Well, to be honest: I've managed with those".
Marco is to me the glue for the band. Nightwish is super group comprised of the best musicians out there and all are important pieces to make his band as tight and phenomenal while performing live. Let alone studio recording. Marco thru his tenure was capable of singing with all 3 front women and sound absolutely perfect to performing with each of them. Yet still do his thing. This song is just one side of him that he nails his vocals. And yet can still play bass like no other can. Please react to his other solo song “The Islander” live in Tempere. He’ll show another version of his voice that you haven’t heard. And like Floor, Marco has his ability to switch up his singing technique throughout all Nightwishes catalog. He truly is a special artist in his own right. It’s very sad he stepped away from Nightwish to pursue his solo career a few years back. See ya on the next reaction
Thank You again! You picked my suggestion again. Maybe You're now ready for their best song: The Poet and the Pendulum from Wembley Arena 2015. For this song You need to read the background because it's heavy stuff. Note: the first part is sung by a young boy. Marko is also singing a part of the song in a very different style... The piece is about 10 min and it has just everything. 😊 / Rolf from Stockholm
""Floor Jansen - Slow, Love, Slow (Live)"" ruclips.net/video/bBG8GdyLYDk/видео.html Nightwish song - very blues, jazz. Smokey bar, drink in a glass, listening her...
Marko can sing with anyone and sound amazing. His voice is so pure. Even after a botched throat palop removal. He had to relearn his voice. He's getting older. However, his voice, in my opinion, keeps getting better. You should check out some of his new songs.
7:58 Please, try pressing the CC button in RUclips video player at the bottom right. This video would have had time synchronized manually entered lyrics which work even if the video is paused.
6:12 Your second version was perfect! His given name is Marko which is a Finnish name and it should have clear rolling R which is pretty short. You could have a bit stronger hum at the start of M before you open your lips to start the word Marko. The M at the start of the word should already have clear sound while your lips are still pressed together.
Thank you for naother fantastic reaction to one of my favorite songs Marko sings lead on. The music is hauntingly beautiful and Marko's vocals are so stunningly beautiful and vulnerable. A beautiful tribute to innocent young love. Reminds me of my teenage years. Listening to CHOM-FM out of Montreal (I grew up in Burlington, VT in the 70's and 80's and CHOM was the only decent radio station we could listen to) getting ready to go ut on a Saturday night. Hoping to meet that one girl who would get me and I could connect with and fall in love. Many recommendations for more Marko but I will recommend my favorite Marko song, Endlessness, from the Human Nature album. Last song on Disc 1 and a fitting last song recorded by Marko with Nightwish. A beautiful, doomy song about living a full life and at the end, accepting that inevitable end and gently going on into the next adventure that awaits us in death. For another group to checkout I would highly recommend the Dutch Symphonic/Gothic metal band Blackbriar and theirlead singer Zora Cock. She has one of the most beautiful and unique voices I have ever heard. Arms of the Ocean is one of my favorites but start with The Seance music video. Zora has some very unique vocal techniques that gives you some truly eerie vibes. The acoustic version really allows you to dive into her voice. ruclips.net/video/fJRIY32nhLI/видео.htmlsi=RBJNP2fxRAAYYqOu. The full music video performance will give you the full effect of the bands sound and is equally amazing. ruclips.net/video/eP6xn8kZTeg/видео.htmlsi=lWAo7SScRbV1ga8d.
One more Dutch metal voice would be Charlotte Wessels. Former lead singer of the old Delain, nowadays solo. She just launched her new album ‘the obsession’. All songs worth a listen, and/or a reaction 😊
I think you might like to hear Tony Kakko’s voice from Sonata Arctica. He has very good voice. Also can sing with many styles. Their songs are often stories, and he is a good story teller. You might start with this: ”White pearl black ocean” ruclips.net/video/_Wnh6NXJ4ks/видео.htmlsi=aQ6zCO0SZ2iu3Wz0
Battle Beast (and their lead singer Noora Louhimo, very talented singer)! React to them! Why listen to the rest, when Nightwish with Floor is the best. But, losing Marko sort of dropped them down a notch. I need songs with Marko singing along with Floor. No concert can top the Nightwish Wacken 2013.
I like singing this one (at least the first half - the end is currently a bit too high). There's enough variety to keep it interesting, and you've given me a better idea of what I'm aiming for, so thank you!
Other symphonic metal bands? Delain comes to mind, founded by the brother of Within Temptation's lead guitarist. Xandria. Beyond the Black is technically symphonic, though I'd call it more pop-oriented. Elyose is a symphonic/industrial mix from France.
I love this song, it's beautiful and when sung properly, it's a very romantic song! I sang in a traveling show back in the 1980's. It was quite tiring going to different states, rehearsing, to put on another show the next evening! I have a very deep voice, along with one other high school bass singer. It was tiring by the end of our concerts! Mostly, It felt great just to sleep in my own bed!
Floor doing a lot of fast words/ vowels❣️An ocean of strange islands (only lyrivc video) The intro is important because of the terrorist attac in Paris at Bataclan four weeks before this concert!
Smaller band that I'd highly recommend is Seven Spires. Not purely symphonic, more like... symphonic black power metal. But their music is quite sophisticated and their singer, Adrienne Cowan, is excellent, handling both clean and harsh vocals. Maybe check out "Almosttown" from their latest album (focusing on cleans), or for something more focused on harsh vocals, "Architect of Creation".
Nice vocal analysis as always! Regarding your question about where to go next for some symphonic metal, I recommend to stay still!😅 After Nightwish and Epica you won’t find anything worth your time much. There are some great older bands like Therion and Haggard, but they haven’t got mainstream videos and stuff to check out. They are on a more obscure niche of the genre, although both phenomenal bands and pioneers.
I think Xandria deserves some recognition I think they exist in a weird space where they're big enough and have been around long enough to be considered one of the big names in the space but aren't quite included in the same conversations as a Nightwish, Within Temptation and Epica Their first singer Lisa has a very soft and beautiful voice but their 2nd and 3rd singers, Manuela and Dianne, sing with a little more utilization of their classical backgrounds
Another great Floor and Marko "duet"; Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) 2019 - Floor Jansen & Marko Hietala - Ave Maria ( ruclips.net/video/q1UJHpyFQn0/видео.htmlsi=qJMGvmCp3zQ84qrO )
Another important Symphonic metal band to check out would be Delain. I recommend the song Masters of Destiny with their former singer Charlotte Wessels!
Please check Ilta's version of this same song from tv-show 'Vain elämää'. Marko is watching her perform and I sure would like to hear your comments on that.
merry xmas to u from finland marko is nasional treosure if u know how many projects etc hes done .. raskasta rock still goes on if u wanna look finish xmas songs =) ty for this and i hope u merry xmas
You asked for new thoughts and ideas on symphonic metal. One of the inspirations for Floor Jansen is Anneke van Giersbergen. All her solo work is totally worth it, but I would say a reaction to her former band ‘The Gathering’ with Strange Machines might be very much worth while. I truly enjoy your vocal geekiness. Don’t loose that please ❤ Link to their live performance on PinkPop: ruclips.net/video/1HUMwinV2AQ/видео.htmlsi=ZJoDN73_EU8Q91Pl
I'd put Nightwish's "High Hopes" tribute to Pink Floyd at the top of my list for recommendations in this regard, too. But not too far below that, there's a song I haven't seen anyone else mention yet - "The Voice of My Father" with Marko's own band. Though if you want to _see_ him sing, you'll have to go with the original Finnish version, "Isäni ääni", since he didn't re-record the music video for the English translation, just blurred himself to prevent any confusion about his lip movements not matching the singing 😄
When the music video was made it was back in the days before Floor when Anette there second singer was in the band. The music video was used on a movie which features scenes from that movie (Lieksa.) It's a very emotuonal turbulent movie about Innocence and falling for the wrong person.
Hi Veronna.. Do you have your own channel apart from being here?...because I can't find it. I'm asking you because you're amazing, I'd like to see you sing songs instead of reactions. Cheers from Argentina.
If you want to hear Marko sing really high without screaming, I suggest checking this song out. It's in Finnish, but you might find English translation somewhere ruclips.net/video/Pib_B8C8fEg/видео.htmlsi=VKgSCbCDfjQzE_tK
This is not officially a Nightwish song. It was commissioned for a Finnish movie called The Matriarch (English translation). It was written by Tuomas with him playing keyboards, Marco singing, and playing acoustic guitar and bass, and Jukka on drums. Nightwish released this as a second song on the single for the song Amaranth which was the lead single for the album Dark Passion Play. Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red does not appear on any studio albums.
It used to be Marko (with rolling R), but one day Marko decided to take the stage name Marco (without rolling R). Later he called that a mistake, but he never changed it back while he was with Nightwish. Post-Nightwish I see the Marko spelling again. I guess that either pronunciation will do, rolling R would be best.
This is a song of outstanding beauty, a masterpiece by Tuomas. It was written for Marko on the lead, and Anette doing the backing. Floor stepped in her role, not in Marko's. Floor had a good training in singing backing and harmonize, she sung with Arjen Lucassen's project Star One at a young age. Funny idea: This song is nice to dance to, which is an enhanced way to enjoy it: ruclips.net/video/IahKV_fXm-A/видео.htmlsi=1BYm9BDgPKA--4Ru
If you want to hear the finest female take on "Can't Help Falling in Love", check out Haley Reinhart's cover. (B&W studio version) You can nerd out over her technique for days!
As always, very interesting insights! For more awesome Symphonic Metal, try VISIONS OF ATLANTIS - Pirates Will Return (Official Live Video). This one's also really amazing!
Therion. I love Nightwish beyond words... but... there would be no Nightwish without Christofer Johnsson's project, Therion is a "must listen to" of what I call "The New Classical Music"!
I almost never screem, so I don't know.. Couple of weeks back some one tried to break in my property and I yelled to get to fork out of my property, it immidiatly hurt my throat and my voice almost gone away I could not speak that well after it (my voice went away and back and away), but I was very high in adrenalin.I did scare the fork out of those people though...LoL
I can’t see any comment on Marko’s ”original” band Tarot since 1986. Worth to check out👌 The song ”Wings of Darkness”, 2011 ”25th anniversary” version is great😄 ruclips.net/video/xD1q21dr8tw/видео.htmlsi=shYsLSsoobU9iJ8D
As always, great reaction Veronna. As a suggestion for other symphonic metal vocals, I have this one for you. This is Dianne van Giersbergen, a Dutch spinto-soprano. Dianne is best known as the former lead vocalist of German symphonic metal band Xandria. On the 13th of September 2022, exactly 5 years after her departure from Xandria, Dianne announced her return into symphonic metal through the creation of her own solo album: “Soulward Bound”, under her own name "DIANNE". The album will embody the drive and devotion that guided Dianne on her journey towards finding herself again. To have the album mirror her journey, “Soulward Bound” will be released in a new and unconventional way: spread out over 5 years, with 2 singles each year. Here's one of the releases of this album called; "Unleash The Siren". ruclips.net/video/SGI-f90QbDs/видео.html BTW when you'll turn on captures, the lyrics are availlable for you. Happy holydays to you and yours / Joyeuses fêtes à vous et aux vôtres 🤟
Not bad for a guy who had a botched operation on his vocal cords that left some paralysis, eh? Marko had to basically learn to sing all over again. Marko is now out on his own and, it looks like, enjoying life very much. If you want to hear something very recent that he has done, I would suggest his song "Impatient Zero" from his new album "Roses from the Deep" that will be out in February.
Thank you for your reaction, Verona. About other synphonic metal bands, and because we are on Christmas, I would like to suggest you "Ghost of Christmas Present", from Majestica: ruclips.net/video/8ZiVEb35LE0/видео.html They are quite distinct to NightWish, is powe rmetal (metal + anthem vibes) & symphonic. They did an entire album with charols. :-)
Great informative reaction. Also, damn rights....go get yourself a sponsorship from that elastics company. You're a vocal coach providing necessary marketing for that type of device that helps your students. Just email the company and let them know that you've mentioned their item on your channel. You might be surprised.
Ayreon will feature the best Symphonic metal singers in the world. The day that the world breaks down ruclips.net/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/видео.html is the best introduction. So good, the creative mind is kind of fed up with watching reactions to it. And of course Valley of the Queens, because it is such a treat. ruclips.net/video/TbebO5BZi-I/видео.html
One more Dutch suggestion: Ayreon. If you want to get an idea of a masterpiece of a metal opera, try ‘The day that the world breaks down’. You will find some ‘old’ friends in there too ☺️. ruclips.net/video/oFuMKdrzPqU/видео.htmlsi=tLIOL-OiB6wkgep_

Yeah in The Islander he unlocked her full potential lol
Yeah Epica !!!!!
Yeah, in Ayreon "The Day That the World Breaks Down" appear 11 main singers. It will be a plenty to do with singing analyzes.
+1 for Ayreon
Troy is a magician with any instrument. The guitar playing using an ebow sounds so freaking good. That's a rare feat.
Troy really is a true musician who can play so many instruments - he fits in with Nightwish so well!
Thank you for doing this song. I would love to see your reaction to Nightwishs version of High Hopes with Marco as lead singer. Btw, David Gilmore loves this version. Greetings from germany 🫶🤘🔥

But also Eye of the storm would be great ruclips.net/video/C7Z-IP2onYQ/видео.html

Why listen to the rest, when Nightwish with Floor is the best. But, losing Marko sort of dropped them down a notch. I need songs with Marko singing along with Floor. No concert can top the Nightwish Wacken 2013.
Battle Beast NOORA LOUHIMO incredible metal voice from Finland. Noora Piece of my Heart Live.
A suggestion for another great Nightwish song with Marko on vocals: The Islander (I recommend the Live at Tampere video).
+1
UK Army popping in to steal a kiss while your lips are still red 😊
Nice vocal analysis as always!
Regarding your question about where to go next for some symphonic metal, I recommend to stay still!😅
After Nightwish and Epica you won’t find anything worth your time much.
There are some great older bands like Therion and Haggard, but they haven’t got mainstream videos and stuff to check out. They are on a more obscure niche of the genre, although both phenomenal bands and pioneers.
I think Xandria deserves some recognition
I think they exist in a weird space where they're big enough and have been around long enough to be considered one of the big names in the space but aren't quite included in the same conversations as a Nightwish, Within Temptation and Epica
Their first singer Lisa has a very soft and beautiful voice but their 2nd and 3rd singers, Manuela and Dianne, sing with a little more utilization of their classical backgrounds
Another great Floor and Marko "duet";
Raskasta Joulua (Heavy Christmas) 2019 - Floor Jansen & Marko Hietala - Ave Maria
( ruclips.net/video/q1UJHpyFQn0/видео.htmlsi=qJMGvmCp3zQ84qrO )
Another important Symphonic metal band to check out would be Delain. I recommend the song Masters of Destiny with their former singer Charlotte Wessels!
Please check Ilta's version of this same song from tv-show 'Vain elämää'. Marko is watching her perform and I sure would like to hear your comments on that.
merry xmas to u from finland marko is nasional treosure if u know how many projects etc hes done .. raskasta rock still goes on if u wanna look finish xmas songs =) ty for this and i hope u merry xmas
Degree in jazz? Well, I wonder what's the next Nightwish song we will recommend in comments... (Slow Love Slow, Montreux Jazz Festival)
Don’t loose that please ❤
Link to their live performance on PinkPop: ruclips.net/video/1HUMwinV2AQ/видео.htmlsi=ZJoDN73_EU8Q91Pl
P.s. Fun Fact Floor started of in a band called After forever as a backing vocalist aged 16 before she became there lead.
Kamelot " Abandoned" live 2006
Hi Veronna..
Do you have your own channel apart from being here?...because I can't find it.
I'm asking you because you're amazing, I'd like to see you sing songs instead of reactions.
Cheers from Argentina.
If you want to hear Marko sing really high without screaming, I suggest checking this song out. It's in Finnish, but you might find English translation somewhere

Symphonic Metal band: XANDRIA " No time to live forever"
I like the harder rock type songs from him. Try his back and forth with Floor in Romanticide
hey verona we love marko only problem with this song is its not long enough more please
Also look for his performance on the (otherwise horrible) TV show, The Mask.Singer (Finland addition).
Hyvää Joulua from Finland. Bearwood- Rise Above (feat Marko Hietala ) Finland 2024. Live.
For male belting I think Everdream whould be perfect
Also for note sliding I suggest you Romanticide and Song of Myself
This is not officially a Nightwish song. It was commissioned for a Finnish movie called The Matriarch (English translation). It was written by Tuomas with him playing keyboards, Marco singing, and playing acoustic guitar and bass, and Jukka on drums. Nightwish released this as a second song on the single for the song Amaranth which was the lead single for the album Dark Passion Play. Kiss While Your Lips are Still Red does not appear on any studio albums.
Thanks
For symphonic metal, Xandria, Within Temptation, Ignea, Lacuna Coil, and Xandria are all good options.
A long one?: Kamelot "Elizabeth (1, 2, 3) live 2006
Kamelot "Karma" 2006 live
High hopes and the Islander (live) May be interresting
Kamelot: "When the lights are down"
This is a song of outstanding beauty, a masterpiece by Tuomas. It was written for Marko on the lead, and Anette doing the backing. Floor stepped in her role, not in Marko's. Floor had a good training in singing backing and harmonize, she sung with Arjen Lucassen's project Star One at a young age.
Funny idea: This song is nice to dance to, which is an enhanced way to enjoy it:

patrik laine rocks go montreal :) thanx to great reaction and have wonderful christmas next week.
If you want to hear the finest female take on "Can't Help Falling in Love", check out Haley Reinhart's cover. (B&W studio version) You can nerd out over her technique for days!
Marko with a rolling r.
As always, very interesting insights!
For more awesome Symphonic Metal, try VISIONS OF ATLANTIS - Pirates Will Return (Official Live Video). This one's also really amazing!
Backing singer on this should go far..Might get her own slot some time,,😎
@@user-VeryoldGeezer Marco needs to get himself a shirt that says Floor is my backup singer.
Therion.
I love Nightwish beyond words... but... there would be no Nightwish without Christofer Johnsson's project, Therion is a "must listen to" of what I call "The New Classical Music"!
Has she reacted to Diana Ankudinova singing Can't help falling in love? She is in for a treat if she hasn't.❤
Kamelot "sacrimony" ft. Alissa White-Gluz and Elize Ryd
Worth to check out👌
The song ”Wings of Darkness”, 2011 ”25th anniversary” version is great😄

Here's one of the releases of this album called; "Unleash The Siren". ruclips.net/video/SGI-f90QbDs/видео.html
BTW when you'll turn on captures, the lyrics are availlable for you.
🤘😁🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯👍
Thank you for your reaction, Verona. About other synphonic metal bands, and because we are on Christmas, I would like to suggest you "Ghost of Christmas Present", from Majestica: ruclips.net/video/8ZiVEb35LE0/видео.html They are quite distinct to NightWish, is powe rmetal (metal + anthem vibes) & symphonic. They did an entire album with charols. :-)
Now you know who the best Nigtwish singer was 🤣
Kamelot "Eventide"
Great informative reaction. Also, damn rights....go get yourself a sponsorship from that elastics company. You're a vocal coach providing necessary marketing for that type of device that helps your students. Just email the company and let them know that you've mentioned their item on your channel. You might be surprised.
KAMELOT "Phantom Divine" (shadow empire) live ft. Lauren Hart
🤩👍💥💯🎼
🤘😎💙🎶
This is Nightwish
👍👍👍👍👍👍💋💋💋💋🙌🙌🙌🙌🎶🎶🎶🎶
Try Ayreon. The day the world
One more Dutch suggestion: Ayreon. If you want to get an idea of a masterpiece of a metal opera, try ‘The day that the world breaks down’. You will find some ‘old’ friends in there too ☺️.
