Tyler! Thanks so much for making this. So glad this video popped up in my recommendations. Love the thumbnail haha. I think in addition to what you expressed (very well btw), I was also facing a few other challenges... adjusting to life as a new dad, being bored of the content I was making, and feeling trapped by payroll (as of last year I had 4 full-time employees). I haven't gotten to all of that in my newsletter yet but I kind of turned my creator business into a jail cell (albeit a fancy one with bougie coffee and a memory foam mattress). Once I stepped back and became a solo creator again, it gave me space to find myself... and a HUGE part of that was finding the joy in creating again. It was never about views or money or labels. It was always about the love of making videos, whether for one person or one million. Thanks for sharing YOUR vulnerability! Looking forward to seeing more from you :)

Matt! Wow. I wasn't sure you'd ever see this, let alone take time to leave such a thoughtful comment. Your feedback and added insight mean so much to me - and I'm grateful you appreciated my point of view. It felt a little awkward to publicly comment on someone else's life, but your openness really moved me and hopefully this video impacts others as well.
I can't tell you how much your encouragement means at the moment. I stubbornly wish I didn't need such encouragement, but at this stage it sincerely helps. I've actually been a part of your Master RUclips course/community since you first launched it. I simply failed to commit in a serious enough manner to bring much to fruition.
That said, I'm entering a new chapter now - one that is focused on the expression of my Authenticity - and I know RUclips will play a big role in that. So, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, give your gifts, and inspire others to create. Looking forward to the Version 2.0 of the course. Cheers.

I always wondered if Matt wanted to wear a colorful Tee, or maybe load his house with comfort, or maybe go party, but his image became his cage. The 24 hr content creation to sustain that minimalistic grey t-shirt, symbol of productivity kind of image got to him, i guess.

This is some great perspective. I also wanted to throw out there the fact he has a kid now, which changes everything for anyone. I’m sure he’s doing a lot of self-reflecting of his own values now having to ask himself what values do I want to spread to my kids? My other thing is (as a fellow Matt Stan) I was honestly just about to start losing interest in his work because it wasn’t resonating with me in the same way it once did. But after reading his emails and finding that we’re both on journeys of deconstructing minimalism’s role in our lives and pushing ourselves to discover new parts of ourselves, I’ve never been more excited for his future content. He’s growing and developing with his audience. I can’t stand watching channels that just talk at you with no sense of being a human or telling a story, which are most major self-development bros on this platform. If Matt returns to making films full time, this new approach and angle will be the best thing he could possibly do for his channel and himself and I couldn’t be more excited for it.

A really thoughtful video and your delivery of the ending (the personal reflection) was great. I like Matt so I was initially a little concerned when I saw the title as to what the content of this video would be. However, I think the commentary was handled in beautiful and supportive way; it was the reflection and your own willingness to be vulnerable that contributed to this. Best of luck with your own RUclips journey 😊

as a RUclips consumer, I've realized everyone starts small and says they don't want to grow big and make videos because they love making videos to "inspire people" but ultimately, every creator, whether they admit it or not (they are all lying) want to be Mr. Beast big, but I cannot stand the overproduced Mr. Beast kind of content. I think the Achilles Heel of RUclips is the Subscriber Count, view count, etc. Remove those and people will watch less but watch with more of a sacred intent.

I mean it certainly doesn't sound sexy but the way to improve your mental health is to just directly work on your mental health. Just like how if you want to lose weight or gain muscle you do the things that are going to directly lead to getting those results. Our mental well being is much more akin to physical health than it is to otherwise arbitrary material or social conditions. There is a very normal distribution of depression across all socioeconomic standings in most relatively wealthy countries meaning what you achieve, how much you make, what your job is, how much power you have, what your social media account is like just doesn't have nearly as much effect to our mental well being as we tend to think it does. Instead doing the things a therapist might tell you to do like regular exercise and sleep, stress management, some kind of therapy strategy like CBT, ACT, IPT, mindfulness, meaningful social connection, etc. On the surface its very very easy just like losing weight might be very easy on the surface however actually doing it consistently is where the struggle comes in. But regardless the message needs to get out. Do the things that are going to actually get you what you want.
