He had a big accident in 1982, fractured pretty much everything : both wrists, elbow, pelvis, heels and nose, leaving him with several after effects (partially paralysed, vertigo, lost some sensitivity in his fingers etc.) Doctors said he wouldn't be able to climb again... and one year later he was back. His wrists can't turn so he has to compensate with shoulders, this video was made in 1992, but he is still climbing at 56. Crazy life, crazy man, you have to admire this dedication.
I watched a documentary on this guy last night, definitely a living legend, one of a kind, What an honour to have seen such an amazing ability, what an incredible person. I bet his wife looks forward to the day he hangs up his boots
I used to (past tense) solo until I fell. I only fell 21 feet, but I fractured my hind foot and sprained my other one pretty bad (it still hurts). Now I don't solo (no rope) anything. It was amazing to solo! Your mind gets so focused so centered - like nothing else I have ever known. The INSTANT you grab the rock your mind flows inwards. Nothing else matters. There were people yelling 20 feet away from me at times and I NEVER heard them when soloing.
Merci.
i think this is the riskiest gamble on can do, for as much as you an plan it...there is always a chance that something goes wrong....Total admiration...
I was on the wall iam trieing to climb so i know what the feeling is....and i swear my heart can stop beat fast and i had that electrized feeling in my fingers (unknown fear) when i wathcing this video.... afthefragile - i secound this..master focuse
He can really do something not many people can do except his friend Dan Osman. His wife can really say she has a brave husband. Thats a art that takes a lot of courage, practice, precision and bodycontrol.
@TristanTheSaint I dont think for a second that he is crazy, but i think he is very brave. He has a amazing control over his body and muscles, not to mention his mind.
you must know he has invalidity on some fingers and can't use some muscles of his hand because of an accident in 82. And most of all he is a very humble en simple person, Much Respect
well... sometimes the secret is not to think about it. I think it is clear to say he´s living his dream and not thinking about living the dream. easy going shirtless guy, Alain Robert

IMPRESIONANTE Este tipo esta loco pero HISTÓRICO Crazy Crazy Crazy
He has done these routes many times with a rope, so he knows these routes and would never spot climb. No free solo climber climbs a route they have not done before without ropes. He knows he can do it safely, so he free solos it after doing it many times with a rope.
If you're not using ropes, your mind doesn't have a safety back up to rely on. Your mind is put under enormous pressure that any moment it could die. Free climbing is more about mental strength than physical skill. Free climbing strengths your mind more than strengthening your body. It teach your mind to block everything and just focus on one thing which is the rock face. This is something not easy to do when you're 60m off the ground hanging onto a rock face by only your fingertips and toes!
@TristanTheSaint I have seen a video here on youtube where he is together with Dan Osman. They were doing some climbing attempt. Anyway they dont have to be friends for that reason.
Also I just looked up Alain Robert and it turns out that his two worst falls (15m/ 49ft.) were due to rope and/or anchor failure. Once again, there's some irony for ya!

He's freesoloing at 60 😱😱
I did think one of his wrists looked a bit out of place from one of his most recent videos, that will explain that then.
I have to say Alain is one of my heroes. An incredibly majestic climber.
Total control of mind and body, amazing.

All I can say is wow. That takes so much skill as well as balls of steel. My hands are sweating and i'm feeling vertigo just watching.

@crazykidfolife Actually, Alain frequently climbs the descent too. And makes it look just as easy as the ascent.
Incredible!
U made a good point here! So much easier to stay within safe limits and to criticize those who dare to do differently! Taking risks is part of living.

Wow Woha alain robert of the king 👑 👑 👑
Amazing. How does one not get stuck on these mountains? I mean, what if there was no place to go? What do you do? Frikin amazing.
He has done these routes many times with a rope, so he knows these routes and would never spot climb. No free solo climber climbs a route they have not done before without ropes. He knows he can do it safely, so he free solos it after doing it many times with a rope.
Bravo !!! (Y)
